it's obviously not only about men abusing women that is the point, and you said they were both bad, you didn't they were the same

If you want to claim now that they are fine, but I think it just demonstrates again that your dogmatic views are impervious to reality.

the point is that people pay for sex because they want to have sex with attractive people

not because they want to abuse anyone. It is NOT TRUE by the way that nobody says it is only about women. They DO say that the WHOLE point is that men are doing something specifically to women BECAUSE THEY ARE WOMEN. That is why men buying men and women buying men is relevant. It demonstrates that that cannot be the case. You can say it's all bad if you like, but even if it were true that all prostitution is only about a desire to abuse and exploit how likely is it that women who were doing it to abuse men would be doing it for EXACTLY the same reasons that men abuse women. You can make all the noise you want but the fact remains: if buying sex were only about men oppressing women then only men would be buying only women. The logic remains basic.

an 18 year old male having sex is now considered a victim of child molestation?

that is totally weird and stupid.

Sunday, March 23, 2008 03:33 PM

if men ever have a birth control method that doesn't ruin sex we won't have a single motherhood problem anymore

a labor shortage maybe.

I just had to tell somebody

that I went back and looked at the "older men younger women" post and an ad for sugardaddy.com came up. Yeah i know it didn't "just happen".

Sunday, March 23, 2008 03:45 PM

the reson that so many men "blame" women for the problem is that every man knows that if men could abort 20 years of child support by going through EXACTLY what a woman getting an abortion has to go through

there would be ZERO kids in existence with two parents who didn't want them (unless one of the parents had died).

I'm really intrigued by the suggestion that the whole premise of the article is wrong

i don't know in this particular case, but I do know that Americans often assume that people in developing countries know far less about the developed worlds culture than they actually do, especially people in countries like China that are actually fairly developed, and it is true that a lot of the cultural conflicts that we think of as being between modernity and backwardness are taking place more intensely and matter more to the people involved when they occur WITHIN societies than when they occur between them.

I don't see how anyone regardless of their position on anything could be against no fault divorce

What possible purpose could be served by forcing people to choose between staying together when they don't want to be together or "proving" that one or the other partner has committed a "crime" for which they should be "punished" in some way.

basic math, not that hard, 15% is less than 80%; if it is black vs white then white will win

so the only real question is how many of the so called supporters of the candidate who happens to be black are going to help the supporters of the candidate who happens to be white do probably the only thing that can turn the race into one that the candidate who happens to be white is GUARANTEED to win.

if obama is hurt by anything the democrats are doing the republicans will destroy him in any case

since anything he will have to face from the democrats is nothing compared to what the republicans will do so there are only two possibilities:

1) attacks from democrats won't matter at all because if obama can handle the republicans nothing the democrats do will have an effect.

2) democratic attacks will do obama real damage, but if this is true that fact will be totally meaningless becasue if these mild questions are capable of damaging him it means he never stood a change against the republican anyway.

For the record I think Obama is going to get the nomination and I think he can handle what he has to handle.

I'll never see the day, but I hope one day we will honor the ocean halibut, the basement spider, and the soil mycellium as much as the dog with the wagging tail.

We aren't talking about respect we are talking about killing and eating something so the distinction is and should be between what can experience pain and distress and what cannot. I think there IS something disturbing about making an animal feel like you are it's family and then killing and eating it (yes I know animals do that to their own "families") and this seems particularly bad in the case of dogs which are highly social animals, but it should be kept in mind that this manipulation is happening to a degree in ALL cases of domestication. If it weren't the animal would not be domesticated.

but I think it's a stretch (or delusional thinking) to believe dogs or cats are "full of consiousness and joy."

dogs clearly are full of conscious joy when they interact with people they like. Cats too in many cases. They presumably don't have the self awareness we do but they clearly are conscious and joyful.

it is the epitome of arrogance to criticize another culture's taste in animal flesh.

there are in fact objective differences between different animals which do have moral implications. It is true that (setting aside, which I'm not at all sure we should, the social aspect) there isn't much intellectual difference between a pig and a dog but the difference between eating a chimpanzee and eating an oyster is more than a matter of cultural taste. Talk about moral relativism run amok.

Original article: An Olympic disgrace

it never ceases to amaze me how often the argument "animals do it so people should too" comes up in relation to food choice

but obviously never in relation to murder, war, infanticide, etc. ad infinitum. Obviously it isn't only people who think too much of animals whose judgment is clouded by emotion.

Original article: An Olympic disgrace

i think the point is that SOME beliefs about food choices have ONLY a religious basis and

others have some basis, or at least are connected in some way, to objective relevant facts about the animals involved such as their ability to experience certain emotions and sensations.

I'm pretty sure Obama didn't say "because slavery happened white people have to agree with/accept everything black people say"

but if his supporters and especially his opponents can convince enough people that he did, or that that is what he "really thinks" or even what his supporters "really think" there isn't going to be much of a "national conversation", or an obama presidency for that matter.

Original article: Is your vagina magic?

Vaginas are like snowflakes -- except the part where they fall from the sky.

I'm glad to see a woman admit that, unlike penises, they don't fall from the sky.
