They also led each to concentration camps, then into gas chambers. They sold each other out for bread. And volunteered to drag out chamber dead to pull gold teeth. So who are Israelis to judge anyone

See, when you complain about Likud using the charge of anti semitism to suppress dissent and then go and say that jews are as responsible for their holocaust as the Nazis you don't do much to advance your credibility. I thought you might not be serious, but I guess you are.

If there isn't going to, eventually, be a two state solution,

what is going to happen.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 07:42 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

the only reason 9-11 occured is because half wit Bush refused to rquire reasonable airport security or continue clintons policies to fight terrorism

and 9-11 didn't force bush to invade iraq, ignore climate change, etc. etc. I'll give Bush one mitigating factor though, almost half the country is as stupid, incompetent and malevolent as he is, so he can't take all the blame.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 08:07 PM

In any case, the governments of Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have never been more stable

Never? They are particularly stable now? Why

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 08:16 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

there is absolutely no reason for 9-11 to have wrecked the country

and with competent sane governance it wouldn't have. Of course with competent sane governanace it wouldn't have happened in the first place. Funny how the small attacks that didn't wreck the country because they were responded to sanely are somehow supposed to absolve bush of responsiblity for allowing the big one that due to his insane response did. More faith based logic at work.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 08:55 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

if bush had clintons policies there is a good chance the 9-11 plot would have been intercepted

of course we can never know for sure.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 08:56 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

fannie and fredie had nothing to do with the problems in the mortage market

not everyone believes the right wing bullshit.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:23 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

there are rational reasons to support bush and the repubicans if you are: 1)rich 2)a christian and/or white supremacist

so maybe (narrowly defined) stupidity isn't the issue, or at least not the only issue.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:25 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

actually in some cases stupidity might be an issue

is it really THAT difficult to distinguish between the weather and the clean up afterwards?

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:32 PM
Original article: W. and the damage done

actually Obama, thank God, is apparently planning a big investment in energy efficiency infratstructure

this provides 3 huge benefits:

it provides a lot of immediate economic stimulus, especially things like weatherization both for the people paid to do it and because the second it is in place somebody has more money to spend on something else due to energy savings

it addresses global warming

it saves tons of money over the long run

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:36 PM

do people really expect Israel to just accept rocket attacks until everything is sorted out if it ever is

it really is odd. It is true that lots of people have to take worse but nobody does it by choice.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 10:56 PM

or until Isarel

is secure

the equivalent to a hard dick is a pussy that is visibly wet in a way that can't be faked

I wouldn't object to erect penisies (or wet pussies) in advertising but lets not go completely insane and make absurd comparisons between things that aren't in any way comparable, like for example comparing an exposed nipple to an erect penis. On a somewhat related note the fact is that there is less variation in dick size when all are erect than when not, so for some men being exposed flacid would be MORE embarassing.

Thursday, January 8, 2009 11:57 AM

there is absolutely no evidence that men are any more competeive with hot men in advertising than women are with hot women in advertising

and you yourself illustrate that women are more picky and less easily appealed to. In spite of your own demonstration that there is absolutely no evidence that male insecurity/homophobia has ANYTHING to do with the absence of men in advertising you just can't help yourself, can you?

why they are so upset about Franken, I think they are worried about him

Unlike your average politician, especially your average democrat (Obama is an exception) Franken knows how to communicate with an audience. I think they are concerned that he can sell a message.

Friday, January 9, 2009 09:40 PM

unless someone can come up with another way to stop the attacks then it is either attempt to do so by force or not

if you intend to argue that Israel is obligated to accept a certain amount of rocket fire without responding you need to say so. It's going to be pretty difficult to get an idea accepted by an audience with any degree of skepticism if the idea being promoted can't even be stated. SPECIFICALLY what do you want done.

Friday, January 9, 2009 10:36 PM

so Israel should stop attacking hamas even though the rocket attacks will continue?

you seem to be saying this, but it isn't quite clear.

Friday, January 9, 2009 11:47 PM

nobody will allow themselves to be attacked without responding even if the response doesn't change anything, if they have a choice

the only exception is if they believe that responding will make their situation worse. Even if you know nothing will change it is easier to fight back than to do nothing if there is nothing you can do to stop the attack. Yes, I know the logic could in theory apply to both sides. Whether is does in fact or not is obviously the subject of debate.

Friday, January 9, 2009 11:49 PM

they don't have the power to end the rockets

or they would have ended them

Saturday, January 10, 2009 12:54 PM

again it needs to be pointed out that many if not most of the most economically productive israelis

could leave if they choose for the US or Europe and if they did the country would collapse economically and eventually politically and militarily as well. So if Hamas or anyone else can make life miserable enough for Israelis they can destroy the state of Israel. So the rockets ARE potentially a real threat.

Saturday, January 10, 2009 01:32 PM

But countries all over the world exist with that threat.

No they do not, if a country shoots rockets at it's neighbor it will be attacked, and unless Hamas is stopped the rockets they are getting WILL pose such a threat.

Saturday, January 10, 2009 01:38 PM

by supporting Hamas unconditionally the rest of the world is making the same mistake the US made when it supported (by not forcing the Israeli govt to stop it as a condition of aid) settler land stealing

i.e. allowing one side to believe that it can win everything in the end if it is willing to live with the fighting long enough.

Saturday, January 10, 2009 02:12 PM

what happens when everyone, all the arabs, Israel and Abbas all agree on the deal that Israel stop and Hamas stop the rockets and only Hamas refuses to agree

will anything change politically.

And boy am I and millions of others going to applaud long and hard - when fall comes Jonathan.

If a fall does come they are taking a lot of others down with them this time. They won't let history repeat itself.

Original article: On "mantyhose" and misogyny

when women kiss mens asses simply because they have a dick the way women get their asses kissed by virtue of being born with a pussy

then these things won't matter. The interesting question is how long the lie that these things are due to a desire to oppress women can be maintained as the only socially permitted way to conceptualize or discuss the issue.

Sunday, January 11, 2009 02:15 AM
Original article: On "mantyhose" and misogyny

why is male frontal nudity rare while women are often revealed in toto

because when a woman is standing you can't see anything. the equivalent to a man standing naked with his dick hanging out is a woman lying with her legs spread and her pussy visibly open. The equivalent to a man naked with a hard dick is a woman with her legs spread and a visibly wet open pussy. These equivalencies are actually extremely biologically obvious and therefore so is the fact that the refusal/inability to see them can only be due to pure ideological affectation. If you wonder why feminist hand wringing is so often ignored and dismissed this is an excellent example of the sort of thing that causes people to do this.

Sunday, January 11, 2009 11:39 AM

it's contradictory but they may not be deluded, just iars. They would like a far right revolutionary but their fall back poisition is a "non ideological" "centrist"

and so they call anyone who is not a dominionist fascist imperialist lunatic a "leftist" then if/when their first choice doesn't get in, they have a "centrist". Hard to tell how many of them are conscious of the strategy and how many are "just following orders" to say and do and think only that which is politically expedient to republicans and it may not matter much for most purposes most of the time.

Monday, January 12, 2009 08:54 PM

is there in fact any consensus that allowing the PLO state in Lebanon to continue it's activities unmolested

would have been a desirable or superior outcome. Obviously asking this does not imply that what was done was well done.

Monday, January 12, 2009 10:36 PM

the continued dispossession and depopulation of the palestinians

Israel is the most incompetent depopulater in the history of the universe given the massive expansion of the palestinian population that has taken place under it's occupation.
