Original article: "WTF" of the day

you only like it if it's someone you are attracted to and since most people aren't really attracted to themsleves...

(unless you buy the argument, which I think is incredibly stupid, that masturbation is evidence that everyone experiences a "same sex attraction", no really I've heard that argument seriously made, and not by anti sex wingnuts either)

if you go by the numbner of squirting girls videos that are available it appears men don't have much of a problem

with female fluids.

Yes they are saving the banks to keep them from dragging down everyone, but the difference betweeen right wing bullshit and sane people is that sane people know/admit that since it is the public that ultimately has to not let them fail

the public has a right to exert some control over their irresponsibility when times are good and that "private (ha) enterprise" should not be allowed to do whatever it wants then walk away without any accountability or any restrictions on their future irresponsibility when their "creativity" results in them needing to be are bailed out AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN, S&L, Enron, etc. etc. etc. Bush and the "mainstream" right wing are working very hard as we speak to assure that the trillion dollar bailout won't contain and meaningful strings on the "wealth creators".

Original article: Your daily Palin, dammit

old people really aren't much more conservative than other people and

if there is an overall tilt it is because they have more money, rich young people are as conservative as rich old people on economic issues.

what specifically makes it SO RIDICULOUS?

Is it the fact that they were attractive and men responded to that and that they and everyone else knew it and were ok with it? Is this situation somehow incompatible with women being equal and being able to do whatever they want?

Original article: My candidate, myself

don't fall into the trap of thinking that it all about the mind or personality of the leader, for instance, regarding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq

all of the people in govt. who were involved knew perfectly well what they were doing and what the state of the evidence was, or wasn't, they just wanted to do what they wanted to do for other reasons, they saw an opportunity and they manipulated the public to achieve their goals. There was no cognitive dissonance on their part, only on the part of their public supporters who weren't in on the real situation and the real policy motives.

Original article: Show me the sexism!

the more aggressive you are the more you get away with

traditional men are the most aggressive, traditional women the least, non traditional women are more aggressive than traditional women and non traditional men are less aggressive than traditional men.

Original article: Show me the sexism!

it said they had retro views of women it didn't say they had wives, the views in this case probably simply reflect

the underlying personality traits, and THOSE are probably what is leading to the different result.

Original article: Show me the sexism!

it makes the discussion more productive if you read the article: they controlled for age, experience, education and choice of occupation

and everybody made about the same EXCEPT for the traditionally minded men who made MUCH MORE (when EVERYONE of the same age, experience etc. was compared).

who ends up happily together for 50 years of any gender, and of those who do how many would if they didn't have the social and emotional glue/chain of kids

actually lesbians might be MORE likely to stay together because, apparently, the emotional bonds don't fray as much when they stop having sex as is the case with relationships where men are involved.

Original article: U.K. to criminalize johns

lots of the people promoting it don't really care whether the immediate consequences are good or bad

as far as they are concerned the biggest danger is that the right to sell and buy sex will become "normalized". It used to be taken for granted that authorities had the right to tell people when/how/with whom they could have sex. Now that that the idea that people have a right to make these decisions for themselves is taking root those who want to prevent women from flooding the market with commercially available sex have to come up with some way to jusify allowing sexual autonomy for consenting adults for everyone EXCEPT women who want to sell sex and men who want to buy it. Do we outlaw marriage because men sometimes beat up their wives.

Original article: U.K. to criminalize johns

I say that is effectively decriminalized since that sort of operation is rarely meddled with by law enforcement. It is rare to see a bust reported a

This is absolutely not true. The business is CONSTANTLY HARASSED BY AUTHORITIES for the SPECIFIC GOAL, which is SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVED of making the business much more difficult for both buyers and sellers than it would otherwise be in the belief that if they did not do this there would be much more of it than there is and it would be much more normal and accepted. Look at Australia if you want to see a relevant example of legalization.

Original article: Pussy Galore: Feminist icon

my understanding is that the idea that lesbian couples remain close and comparatively unconflicted in the absence of sex, or at least much more so than heterosexual couples or gay male couples

is backed up by quite a bit of survey evidence. Any attempt to say what it means probably isn't.

Original article: Pussy Galore: Feminist icon

obviously any general tendency won't apply to everyone and a very statistically significant difference may be a very small percentage of the total, ..... given that however.........

I suspect it is probably true that even though comparing the behavior of gay men with straight men and gay women with straight women can often show how different men and women are the comparison probably UNDERESTIMATES the true difference because some gay men react more like women and some gay women react more like men.

Original article: Pussy Galore: Feminist icon

I actually think it is proably POSSIBLE, under ideal circumstances, for a realationship to have enough sexual chemistry to last a lifetime BUT

for there to be ANY chance of this happening that has to be a HUGE amount on BOTH sides to start with AND a lot of other things have to be in the right place and go well.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 10:26 AM
Original article: Pussy Galore: Feminist icon

it's probably the same situation but there are some differences, two of the main ones are family and the social and economic benefits of staying together which, at least up to now tended to be more pronounced for straight people in more cases,

also I think the reason straight men stay with women more than gay men stay with other men (apart from the fact that men get something from women that even gay men don't get from other men, no I certainly WOULD NOT say that "everyone, or at least all men, are straight on some level") is that straight men simply have fewer sexual/social options than gay men at least until middle age. A lot of times people just like each other well enough.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 11:01 AM

basically you need to treat them like the children they are in reality but this may very well conflict with the rules in a non trivial way

so while Cary is on the right track I don't know it would really be possible to take this as far as it would have to be taken to really accomplish anything. Besides which I doubt you could get any large group to take the kinds of hands on forcefulness that would be required.

Original article: U.K. to criminalize johns

lots of hot horny young gay men can and do get paid for doing what they want to do anyway with normal (not spectacularly ugly or extremely ancient ) men for good money

(or so I hear) so it seems at least conceivable that there are some equivalent women (especially since, as we are so often told, women like/want/need sex as much as men do).

Original article: U.K. to criminalize johns

making prostitution illegal makes the job much for difficult for the wome too, even in Sweden where the women are "victims"

to all the people who say "no one will voluntarily do the work" why not TEST THIS. The real problem for lots of the people who want it kept illegal is that they are afraid that if it is legal there will be both a large demand AND a large supply.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 01:01 PM

if the threat is real then there is no reason for the right wing to demand, and even less for anyone to consider giving in to the demand, that the money be handed over with no strings attached

are they willing to bring down the entire economy rather than accept some form of accountability for their rich friends and successors in the investment business.

regardless of the merits, do you think it would be smart for "muslim" Obama to take on the job of the US "intellectual envoy" to the Moslem world?

the thing liberals most need, and are most counting on, from Obama is that he not be a complete political moron, and he isn't.

Thursday, September 25, 2008 09:58 AM

actaully the fact that a good looking famous person with 3000 a month to spend would spend it on porn instead of the real thing indicates very SCUCCESSFUL domestication

if looked at rationally. Of course nothing will ever be enough as long as men are not exactly like women or at least doing everything women want.
