If one believes the common Broadsheet troll, every man gets married with his fingers crossed behind his back when he promises fidelity.

No they make the obvious observation that if a woman wants a man who has real options to stay faithful to her she has to, at a minimum, like having sex with him. This is no guarantee of course but for men who have a choice it is a minimum requirement. If women want to feel that their incomes entitle them to dictate the couples sex life unilaterally, fine, but don't be surprised if the relatively small percentage of men who have real choice in the matter don't play along.

Men would play around less if there weren't so many stand-by-my-man types

I seriously doubt this, they don't expect to be caught. Men want sex the way a lot of women want, say, EXCESS food i.e. more than is needed to maintian health and provide needed energy (in fact biologically the two things are probably equivalent; women are biologically programmed to store up excess fat to aid in pregnancy and nursing) Every women who has tried to lose or avoid gaining extra weight knows it is tough to do even though the facts of the situation are clear.

my point is the men have to prove themselves to women in order to have sex and women don't have to prove themselves to men

and that women are biologically programmed to demand that men provide them with evidence of their worthiness in the form of the ability to provide something that women are unable to provide for themselves. Hence the sexual problems of an androgynous society, actually of any socieity because: if men have the ability to REALLY turn a woman on an instincitve level i.e. inspire REAL sacrifce, that is of a comparable kind to that which men are willing to make for hot women, he is also going to be a potential threat. Actually when I said women could change this I wasn't being literal, since it is biologically programmed on both sides.

so specifically, if this were possible, which it isn't

men would have no need or real interest in differentiating themselves from women in dress, or really in anyting else, if their sexual attractiveness to women was assured.

and if men were guaranteed to be able to fuck anyone they wanted, or for that matter be given piles of money if they were thin there would be VIRTUALLY NO overweight men

maybe women are lying when they say they are "doing everything possible" to lose weight and still failing. I never hear men say this. Fat men have given up and they know it and admit it, usually because they believe it won't make THAT MUCH difference. Obviously NO ONE one who fails to lose weight is trying the action of consistently taking in fewer calories than they burn since it is physically impossible not to lose weight if you do, but women CLAIM to have something going on that makes it really difficult even when they really claim to be trying. Maybe they are just lying.

fine then, they are programmed to have tendencies

then, better?

i actually agree that relationships shouldn't consist of payment for services rendered

but if she doesn't like fucking him why are they in a relationship and if for whatever reason they are in one anyway why would ANYONE under those circumstances NOT expect someone who had a choice to find someone who did, regardless of how they intend to handle other aspects of their life and their relationships. No one expects a woman to not find other people to talk to if her husband refuses to (or even if he doesn't refuse actually, but CERTAINLY if he does).

If men can't help themselves then why should we put them in charge of anything?

Women can happily live without sex, this undoubtedly makes it easirer to pursue rationally calculated goals without distraction. As long as the view can be imposed that women don't have other vulnerabilities that men don't have, or at least that men have them less, it WILL be genuinely difficult to argue that women aren't superior, in any practical meaning of the word. Promoting this idea is in fact the agenda of many people: first establish that there is ONE right way for people to act, i.e the way women are inclined to, then when women, surprise, do a better job of acting like women than men do, the superiority of women is demonstrated.

yes i know what you are saying:

we are graciously given the opportunity to accept either that:

1)men and women are the same in every way that matters (with a single standard of right behavior based on womens inclinations and preferences)

OR

2) men are inferior and women should be in charge.

A win win situation for everyone who matters.

all people can be faithful, all people can be celibate, all people can be thin

how difficult it is for various people to do these various things varies, and the ease or lack of it with with which they are able to do them is not evenly distributed by gender.

Original article: Stop rape, punish victims?

I agree with the above posters that it is pretty insane the state would compensate victims of crimes not committed by the state or an agent of the state.

Yes, total insanity, just like it is totally insane that people should get health care that they can't pay for, or police protection when they can't hire their own private security. The world is going INSANE, thank GGOOOODDDDD there is ONE SHINING BEACON OF SANITY LEFT IN THE WORLD, the right wing/libertarian segment of American society. YES,IT'S TRUE the rest of world will soon be BEGGING you to save it from it's insane self. JUST LIKE SAINT RONNIE SAVED THE WORLD FROM STALINISM. Oh the humanity.

Original article: A softer line on abortion

I don't know if this is politically smart or not but if it is it is very unforunate that biological ignorance and sexual authoritianism

are so entrenched that even the "liberal" party feels the need to cater to and promote them.

Thursday, August 14, 2008 11:18 AM

for years now research on sexuality has been unpopular with both "liberals" and right wingers

because the wing nuts don't want anyone to have good sex and "liberals" don't want straight men to and don't want the fantasy of the androgynous brain further discredited. Maybe people will see that it is to everyones benefit to know how things actually work.

feminist sexual authoritarianism and sexual miscommunication are real problems but you lose all credibility complaining about them

when you take the attitude that a woman wearing the wrong clothes in the wrong place deserves to be raped. If you want to complain about the overly broad DEFINITION of rape that is sometimes promoted that is one thing but again when you can't seem to distinguish between this issue and a case where someone is grabbed off the street by a stranger "because" they were wearing the wrong clothes in the wrong neighborhood, again you don't have much credibility.

Original article: A softer line on abortion

people should only get medical care if they can pay for it themselves or if they can convince someone else to provide it as charity because they are "deserving"

THAT will show those commies in France and Sweden and ever other industrialized country in the world and many formerly third world countries what is what. We're passing Brazil and closing in on Bangladesh! USA USA USA USA.
