when the first oil shock hit in the 70s fuel efficiency standards were tightened and oil comsumption went down a little and imports plunged much faster

if the same trends had continued (which they could easily have been made to by maintaining and tightening efficiency standards) the US would have been producing all of it's own fuel by the mid 80s. Thanks to the glorious restoration of the "free market" by saint ronald the idiot this didn't happen of course. The US produces the same amount of oil as Russia, we just use even more. This isn't even touching alternate fuels. In fact with some investment we could have switched over to natural gas, all avialable in North America, at any time. Compared to the economic costs of the current oil prices, which would never have gotten anywhere near this high if we had done this, it would have been a bargain. Not to mention thirty years of cleaner air, less vehicle wear and on and on.

cut-off womens' economic means to retreat or leave

in other words, if she feels that her economic and social situation would be excessively compromised by leaving a (supposed)abuser she has the right to kill him instead.

Ash see Rose:

ABSOLUTELY....(some say)he needed killin....as long as men cut off womens economic means of escape......

yeah, well when women start chasing after poor average guys the way men chase after poor average girls

I'll start to get upset about the "sexism" blah blah blah here.

What It Feels Like for a Boy," in which he teaches us to, like, pee standing up.

the question here is: can women learn to pee standing up or is equality only achievable to making it mandatory for men to sit down (which appears to be the current consensus among the enlightened).

women don't need to and never should need to wear hight heels, they just need PROPER muscle tone and devlopment

then their legs naturally have the shape that high heels are used to artificially (and harmfully) imitate. In fact a woman who already has well shaped legs often looks BAD in high heels because her calves THEN look like a male body builders. Yes I know high heels supposedly add desirable wobble too, but personally I don't find that the aesthetic effect of a womans ass moving when she walks is affected by the presence or absence of high heels. She looks just as good or bad either way.

you are wrong squallorhalla it is all biology, everything that matters to a womans physical attractiveness either indicates intrinsically desireable physical characteristics or sexual availability

if it doesn't relate to either of those two things it doesn't matter to straight men. The things that matter to women and gay fashion designers mean nothing to straight men. This may be an example of a situation where womens certainty that they know everything is actually causing them some practical problems that they could avoid if they were willing to listen.

actually sometimes I think it does

happen to women

women "dressing up" is a signal that they WANT attention and therfore men pay more attention because they suspect greater receptivity

other than this I don't think the things you are talking about would matter other than for the reasons I said such as makeup makes skin look softer/healthier, heels make legs look more toned, tight clothes show the body underneath. etc.

they don't make them more DESIREABLE (with the type of exception previously described)

but they may lead to them being perceived as at least potentially more AVAILABLE.

The strenght of the sexual signal may vary but probably ANY attempt to look good is going to have at least something especially since men don't care about their own looks or clothes except to the extent that they can attract women or maintain a reasonable social and economic postion (and the second goal is really only a means of attaining the first anyway).

shaving is not a wash, it is much harder for men because the hair on the face is much thicker

if a woman shaves her pubes every day along with her legs that would maybe be about equal.

you will NEVER be able to create a situation where GOOD long term relationships are the NORM

if you don't allow people the opportunity to learn. "Traditional values" have never achieved this. Sometimes people got lucky, usually they just made the best of it, and these were/are situations where people, all people, are socially required to perform in fairly narrow ways. It just won't work now.

When men are unable to get what they want by reasonable and polite means they resort to the unreasonable and less polite

Many men will never be able to get what they want by reasonable and polite means, because the biological disparity in interest is just too great. The only mitigation possible is prostitution (and even there it's not clear how many willing female sellers there would be at a price an average male could afford if women had other opportunities) and most feminists vigorously oppose that. Apparently they aren't as worried as you are by the threat frustrated men pose to feminism and womens status and position.

yes calcareous there are as many loser women as loser men the DIFFERENCE is

that a loser man is much more likely than a loser woman to prefer another loser over nothing.

Is there really such a strong backlash to the sexual revolution?

What has happened, I think, is a combination of two things:

1) Even though most parents aren't true believers in prudery every parent always is a little worried about their kid.

2)Abstinence hucksters and fanatics by a combination of persistence, stealth, and willingness to work for free have acquired more opportunities to peddle their wares than many people realize.....

so..... there is at least a perception of a major anti sex movement among the relatively young, although probably not so much a reality.

yeah why is it that it IS ONLY EVER MEN who complain that there isn't ENOUGH

"hookup culture"? and that even though it is constantly alleged that "lots" of (non religious) young men are uninterested in it we always only seem to have older womens and occasionally older mens word for this.

"Casual Sex ?!? This is my best suit!"

condoms ruin sex, for men. The only reason sex with condoms EVER happens is that men are desparate in ways women can't even begin to imagine

so it isn't entirely surprising that some people end up not using them. Maybe it isn't smart, but it isn't a big mystery.

if the only way women can maintain their self esteem is to not have sex and the only way men can gain any is to be able to convince women they are worthy of being slept with

what are you gonna do? The problem used to be mitigated somewhat by gender roles, which if the man fulfilled his so successfully were sort of like "money", actually pussy, "in the bank". Now, as a result of the absence of this system, men can't demonstrate that they are worthy of sex with without actually having sex, so it's sort of funny to listen to all the whining.

Yes age and experience matter but if no one is entitled to an opinion on sex until they have an adolescent daughter

then surely it's obvious that using equivalent logic you can prove that almost no one is qualified to have an opinion on almost anything.

lets not promote medical ignorance in order to promote a political agenda:

"See, see, that "man" has two X chromosomes and that "woman" has a Y chromosome, so all gender is a social construct, it's proven by science!"

The people running the Republican party may not be motivated by stupdity but most of their voters CERTAINLY ARE

It is the ONLY POSSIBLE EXPLANATION for why a non rich person would ever vote Republican. Many rich Republican voters are not stupid; they are sociopaths, like Bush. Actually he is both.

as a matter of fact we DO know a lot of what causes/constitutes gender:

the hormone levels at key points of development.
