  • Cheney is the Iraq war

Glenn...I encourage you to continue doing this with Cheney--at least weekly perhaps?

This man is a monster of the first order, and the press needs to wake up to his pathalogical rantings. More than any other person, he owns the Iraq war. It has his name written all over it. I feel the case for "high crimes and misdemeanors" has already been made, so why is he not out playing golf?

He has absolutely negative credibility--so much so that his utterances, in any other context, would seem hilarious....except that, given the power he obviously weilds, it is terrifying.

This man makes amoral look like pious. He has sacrificed his own daughter to the likes of Pat Robertson and Dobson/FOTF and then has the nerve to snarl when her name is mentioned. My gut tells me our Government will continue to decline until this man is held accountable for his willful assault on our Constitution. This, more than anything else, needs to happen before any of this can begin to heal.

His pay checks come from Halliburton. Unfortunately for all of us, they also own his soul.

  • Nick, perhaps a third possibility

a four letter word that starts with "E." Paul in KY mentioned this below, in a follow-up to my earlier letter.

I would be interested in a discussion of this along clinical lines....

In my experience, those, especially in positions of public office, who hurl charges of "immoral" and "unpatrotic" are, in fact, projecting their own actions onto others. Sort of like the dry-drunk ex-alchoholic who won't let his own kids take medications. Only Cheney is still in the midst of his addiction/decline....

Seems to me that from there it's just a small step up to the "E" word.

I propose Ann is actually an Arthur--check out the over-sized Adam's apple. The hormone treatments were hard, and left it with an extremely ugly axe to grind. It projects it's own ugly past onto others, and gets paid handsomely to do so.

    An amazing analysis, great discussion.

Mr. Rosenburg and IntrovGirl have gotten me warmed up nicely.

I wanted to second Mr. Rosenburg's advice, and, perhaps, add a wrinkle. The contrived masculinity, the chest beating, etc. is actually a weapon. It is carefully crafted and honed, and the mass media delivery system is quite efficient at it's dissemination. First off, this whole aggenda has nothing to do with Conservativism--it is radical and dangerous to our Nation.

The weapon is an primitive device to destroy language. The test, to see if you are under the spell is simple. Think of the worst possible "conservative" pit-bull, e.g. Ann Coulter. Then imagine how you would behave if you happened to find yourself in an elevator with that person, and they attacked you for being "liberal" or "defeatist." If your response is to clam-up, then they have won.

The only real counter to this weapon is language. Glenn does a good job in illustrating this. Use stories, history, normal stuff and egage. Even if you only get to "agree to disagree," you have started something, and have a reference point to build upon. Does anyone really want a lawless Executive? Does anyone really want endless wars for their own sake? Does anyone really mistrust or seek to destroy the Institutions of Learning and parlimentary debate that are the basis of society? Start slowly at first. Savor opposition--heartfelt debate and discussion is the foundation of friendship.

I should think so--this sort of takes the cake--a "anti-war" bashing ex-gay-porn-star prostitute republican canadian who speaks French and German? Wow!

Where is clownsense when you need him? This is way beyond circus....

Welcome to Salon Matt. Enjoy the ride.

Dear Lord please help LW to gain an understanding of the purpose of her life, to appreciate the gift of life she has now and the success and love she has known. Let her then move from there to peace with you--acceptance instead of resignation.

  • Marketing Porn

What's the big deal with him being a marketing "partner" without a Bachelor's degree?

I mean he's a star (porn) so what does he need a scrap of paper from Columbia for? Oh, right, he's left that life "behind" him. Yea.

How about looking into what it is the "firm" is actually selling--perhaps it leverages his "resume?"

On the other hand, is it really even worth it?

  • Lazy and simple yes, but also deliberate

    Glen,

razor sharp, as usual. I've watched this in horror for quite some time. I find it troubling, not just for how it is used, but I've always felt, that is was damaging to public discourse and language in general.

My earliest recollection of observing this mechanism of tangential argument was in the 80's while Regan was in Office, and he was using this sort of rhetoric against Noriega, whom he had allowed to remain in power in the first place.

I've always found this linguist device was used to obscure details and distract people/readers from the historical record--the simplicity of it is designed to "sound" plausible, but when you even scratch the surface, you quickly discover it hides duplicity or hypocrisy.

I quite agree with your incitement of Mdm. Pagillia, I've had to struggle to finish her rambling and disjointed missives. Chiefly though, she fails in objective criticism, in digging up references and in brandishing these to effect. She is right there in the muck with all the mud slinging...
