thereupon the stars (akhekha) came into being.

Then the goddess Nut trembled because of the height. And the Majesty of Ra said, "I decree that supports be to bear [the goddess up];"

thereupon the props of heaven (heh) came into being.

And the Majesty of Ra said, "O my son Shu, I pray thee to set thyself under [my] daughter Nut, and guard thou for me the supports (heh) of the millions (heh) which are there, and which live in darkness. Take thou the goddess upon thy head, and act thou as nurse for her;"

thereupon came into being [the custom] of a son nursing a daughter, and [the custom] of a father carrying a son upon his head.

What would be an example of the crazy, unjustified hawkish foreign policy adventure for which the media didn't completely collapse at the policy's initiation?

There was no major media skepticism about Vietnam until late, late, late in the war.

Carpet bombing Cambodia from 1965 to 1973, killing perhaps a half million people directly, destroying all their agriculture, and handing the rural population straight into the formerly marginal lunatic guerrillas the Khmer Rouge? No skepticism there until Nixon's "Secret" bombing and then *after* the Khmer Rouge takeover and genocide which the US hawks had facilitated so effectively.

Ronald Reagan's slaughter adventures in Central America & Southern Africa? To this day, the media thinks they were an outstanding example of critical reporting.

Overthrowing Guatemala's government? Iran's? Patrice Lumumba of the Congo? Installing Mobutu into Congo / Zaire?

Helping a near genocidal coup in Indonesia? Encouraging Indonesia to invade East Timor, arguably an actual genocide?

What? What is an example of the media 'collapse' which happens to favor truly liberal and dovish policies?

Why does every single 'collapse' seem to work for the benefit of the hawks domestically (until such time as the foreign adventure seem to not be working out well, at which time criticism seems to be fashionable again), or for the benefit of the rich & powerful domestically?
