Abstinence Program Funds More than Education
[Read the article: Abstinence-only rides again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am appalled that Democrats have allowed the abstinence-only programs to continue despite all the evidence of their failure. I know from 10 years of experience fighting these programs in South Carolina that they fund more than these biased, sexist, medically inaccurate curricula. The abstinence-only workers hired in these programs also do grass-roots organizing for the religious right and are highly involved in local take-overs of GOP precincts. So in effect, by continuing to fund these programs, the Democrats are funding their opposition. The fact that funding is continued in order to buy GOP votes for the budget is also shameful, and is buying votes on the lives of our kids.

Clones
[Read the article: Chris Matthews on Fred Thompson's sexiness and smells]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"It is indeed difficult to avoid noticing the physical similarity among so many of our right-wing warriors"
I've been calling these guys the Rush-Rove clones; they are all mesomorph body types, usually indicative of low testosterone, sloping shoulders, pudgy bodies, breasts like Meatloaf, pasty complexions, thinning hair-all the physical characteristics that made them bad at sports, the butt of jokes and targets of bullies in early adolescence. Many fear they are gay; they are inherently insecure in their gender identity, since they lack all the 'manly' qualities promoted in media and our society lacks responsible ways of helping youth define and come to terms with their gender. It's no wonder that compensation strategies characterize this group-the wonder is how they achieved such power in our political process. Dean's Conservatives Without Conscience helps clarify the resurgence of the Tory authoritarian world view they hold.

SNL Revisited
[Read the article: Bartlett on Bush: An "A" for effort]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We didn't know how true to life the Will Ferrell Bush sketches on SNL were going to be...we're all just working very hard - ha ha
The Bush resume shows abject failure at everything he's 'tried his best' to do. His father was right; GW was the wrong son and the Bush legacy from grandfather to the present has been disaster for America.

Bomb Consequences
[Read the article: The NYT on the administration's "debate" over whether to attack Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If Bush bombs Iran's nuclear facilities, the Iranian army, 1/2 million strong will overrun Iraq, and with the Iraqi Shiites, will massacre our 150,000 troops. Russia will back Iran and send their guys in too and we will have more than a holy-cost in the MidEast. I agree that the Dems must insist that if Bush/Cheney attack Iraq we will CIA rendition them to Iran for justice.

Where's the Intelligence?
[Read the article: The NYT on the administration's "debate" over whether to attack Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Re: Shooter242 questions
Maybe our intelligence about Iran and its nuclear capabilities are lacking because Valerie Plame's network was compromised when she was outed by Cheney and Co.

Thanks JLB
[Read the article: Chris Matthews on Fred Thompson's sexiness and smells]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks JLB you're right - my Psych 101 course was a long time ago.

Ducat's Book
[Read the article: Chris Matthews on Fred Thompson's sexiness and smells]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ducat's book sounds like a great one for summer reading - not only the source of world problems but probably the reason half of marriages in the US fail. Couples mainly can't resolve who should be on top. Actually, we've always liked the spooning position-maybe why my marriage has lasted 42 years.

Vice Office Not an Agency
[Read the article: Cheney blinks?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So Addington claims the vice president's office is not an agency - but I guess he forgot to read the Executive Order, which says all agencies AND other entities in the executive branch. Maybe the Veep isn't an entity either - he's a ghost or specter, or maybe just the devil himself.

BBC is much better
[Read the article: Bashing Elizabeth Edwards]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've been in Scotland for the last month and haven't missed the 24/7 stations in the least bit - anything said or done of any noted is reported in the Internet news and blogs and if for some reason I want a replay or need an Obermann fix, it's there too. So why does anyone watch? Their ratings could be tanking if everyone made a concerted effort. Fortunately the BBC is boss when it comes to world news and generally relegates the fluff coverage to satiric comedy shows (where it belongs) which leaves plenty of time for meaty discussions of issues.
Also I think Elizabeth Edwards is a class act and John is clearly electable. They're getting so much demeaning flack because the puppetmasters are scared to death and have sent out the legions to spray the tarnish before the public catches on.

Smirking Snow
[Read the article: A Snow job on Libby]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"...the president, a man who "believes pardons and commutations should reflect a genuine determination to strengthen the rule of law and increase public faith in government."
Did Snow say this with a straight face or cynical smirk? Such is the overwhelming hypocrisy of these people that we need to start calling them the modern Pharisees. Factually challenged? Why can't you just say he lied through his teeth?

Muddled-headed Mayor
[Read the article: Rudy Giuliani, unscripted]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let me add my agreement with the rest of the posters that this is a perfect example of the stupidity and muddled thinking that got US into the current mess. The inability to articulate the so-called 12 principles of his campaign means Rudy has no principles and the current culture of incompetence and corruption would no doubt continue if he got elected. Much more light needs to be focused on this disaster of a candidate.
