yep, the problem has been popping up for several thousand years, and in response some greek law man invented democracy.
it's in use in california and a few other states, and the result is, governator can't do what the people don't want him to do. the federal government ain't a democracy, but it could be changed to something like california. mike gravel has a plan, for one example. anyway, if you can outlaw booze, you can outlaw creeping dictatorship. you'd think it would be more compelling. plus, you could get something done about global warming, if that bothers you.
of course, it would need a lot of voters being sufficiently worried about where the nation is going to stir themselves to send a few emails. that may be too much to ask, on present form the whole nation is driving toward disaster with only a complaint about traffic.
if voters had to declare their vote, and have a stain daubed on their hand to identify their pick for a long time, the winners could pick the losers off the streets with the patriot act, gas 'em, and thereafter have peace and harmony. can't think why the president hasn't thought of this. hmm, actually, maybe he has. phone tapping is as good as a stain.
harmony is hard to get, because the goal is selfish: "let me be president." if the goal was "what should we, as a nation do", a national referendum would settle it effectively. that's why politicians think "vote for me" is just enough change. they're not there for you and me, they're there for themselves.
obama isn't going to change anything, except the face on the evening news. if you want real change, the people have to stand up and change the system.
and continue screwing cuba, but then reality set in. china's too big to ignore, grenada's too small to be fun invading, cuba is just right. don't mess with uncle sam! (if yer small)
what a way to run a nation. maybe that's why it's sliding into bankruptcy while foreign policy is long past comical, verging on insane.
for the citizens to take over, too. you do it by establishing citizen initiative, and public conduct of public affairs.
but that's not what rommboid meant, is it? he meant replace those other pollies with me. as though he needs special tailoring to accommodate his angel wings.
and dubya didn't keep you safe, he seriously pissed off another few million arabs and took your civil liberties. that ain't safe.
in kansas, he can make it anywhere. but tell me, did he explain that corn ethanol is not a good idea?
for having to vote for a democrat politician, is to help make sure a republican politician doesn't get back in for a generation.
had to wait till alien withdrew.
who cares which frankenstein's monster the repubs come up with. "endless war with jmac" would be a great repub slogan. pretty good for the dems, too.
makes you feel sorry for huckabee, a human being in a party of creeps. if someone explained the separation of church and state to him, he'd probably be a democrat. and if someone explained the difference between a politician and a human being to him, he'd probably be a preacher again.
if bush thinks the u.s.a. is a democracy, the world needs something better.
that's worse than bombing them, shelling them, shooting them, raping them, and turning their towns and cities into churned up moon-scapes?
you bet it's gonna be hard to get a sympathetic ear east of jerusalem.
eisenhower being selected by the current republican party? seems unlikely, doesn't it? the man who coined the phrase "military-industrial complex" to describe the war making industries that are currently enriching the already wealthy wouldn't be welcome in the rnc.
but he was the last republican president who fought for his nation and didn't regard political power as a license to do as he liked. the current republican party is a different animal, a rabid dog that ike wouldn't have touched with the ten foot pole.
i guess it's possible to be a republican and a decent human being, just like it's possible to be a virgin in a whorehouse, but it's not a stable situation, is it?
have noticed that america is not run for most americans. it's not 'of the people, by the people, for the people." it was never meant to be. the constitutional framers knew about democracy, and despised it. so they created a society run by the "best people", the rich.
the political parties have subverted the separation of powers aim of the constitution, creating gangs able to simultaneously control congress and the executive, and controlling the judiciary by appointing like-minded judges.
ron paul is not the answer. no president is the answer. the only cure is for the american people to stand up and demand democracy. mike gravel, at his 'initiative for democracy' site, lays out a way for citizens to get control of their country away from the rich and well connected. anyone who is worried about the way america is going should read what he has to say.
of the usa is obsolete. but americans don't want to change it in any significant way, so they pin their hopes on faces. this is a formula for disappointment and occasional disaster.
but leviathan staggers on, too big to stop, too stupid to steer, and the world hides it's wealth lest lest the u. s. marine corps bring 'democracy'.
i thought 'the decline and fall of the roman empire' was an interesting read, but didn't apply to the u.s.a. because we had elections. turns out it doesn't make much difference. whether you count voters or count soldiers, if the result is one person has too much power, you get disaster.
i think mike gravel has the way to sanity in his 'initiative for democracy', but i don't think americans are up to democracy anymore, most never were.
