don't know why ...

afghanistan is 'necessary', it looks more like a war of 'choice'.

but it doesn't matter: americans will be presented with a choice of two politicians to be king for 4 years, and will choose obama because, as long as afpak doesn't blow up, the republicans have no way to win the election in 2012.

come to think of it, i do know why the afghanistan war is necessary...

god, americans are duuumb!

Original article: Our laws condone torture

who will write them?

like everyone else's simulated political discussion., this boils down to "the gummint orter..."

the president does what he pleases, as long as his party controls congress. there is no sign that that the political guild has suddenly discovered morality. loud cries from the 'progressives' may get some limited results, but the fundamental structure of america remains oligarchy.

if you want the benefits of democracy, first you have to get it.

but why stop there?

why not invite the government to stop enraging the moslem world?

Original article: War is not a video game

a good point, jl, but wasted on americans.

after calley got a total of about 3 years house arrest for overseeing the murder of 350 vietnamese, i quit worrying about distinctions of homicide in america.

drone bombs don't bother people, collateral damage has about the same effect as dry rot in the front porch, and people torture 'in good faith.'

america is too powerful to acquire respect for others in the usual way, and it has corroded the national character into something contemptible.

there is no prospect of improvement, and a very real chance of descent into depravity beyond the dreams of the nazis. not that that needs much more work,

knuckleheads?

they are at the top of their profession, well paid, great medical and pension plan, and are one of 100 people that can turn your life upside down, if the price is right.

'knucklehead' is the people that don't see anything strange here.

the missing link:

presidents should have the power to legislate, with the consent of the electorate. it's called 'referendum,' and democracies have them.

Saturday, September 12, 2009 02:09 PM

so what's new?

"of the people, by corporations, for corporations."

you want a better result, you need a better system. i recommend democracy.

or you could just go whining about the way your masters treat you. there's a living in that for a few, but it doesn't help the rest.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 02:21 PM

enough already!

population control is already necessary, human effluent is poisoning the planet.

resource exhaustion, greenhouse gases, species extinction, what part of modern life suggests we need more people?

Original article: Wall Street buys Washington

"of the people, by the people, for the people"

a brilliant summation of democracy. i can't imagine why lincoln thought it had any relevance to america. unless he was being coldly cynical, dis-educating americans as politicians commonly do. really, it's right up there with "all men are created equal" by that slave owning hypocrite jefferson.

i can understand why america is not a democracy, it was never meant to be. it's a bit of a head scratcher, though, why americans put up with being treated like cattle. guess they are bred to it.

Monday, September 21, 2009 02:58 PM

get democracy.

use citizen initiative to tame the politicians, drive the lobbyists out of business, and spend the nation's money on schools and health care.

it's not hard to do: vote against every incumbent until they establish citizen initiative. add protests and demos, to taste.

one little problem: you would have to get off your ass and make a few key strokes, say once a month. is that too hard for you? would you rather just whine?

america has 10.000 nuclear weapons,

but feels insecure. so they say, and must therefore invade other countries.

saddam had none, and paid the price of sitting on top of 'america's oil' without weapons of mass destruction.

iran has been the target of american aggression for a long time, and probably feels tired of it. i can't think why they should trust america to suddenly abide by common standards of morality, and sympathize with them in any wish to lift their nation's military capability.

the honey bee society,

that's where the human race is headed. they may keep a few men around for breeding stock. the queen[s] will enjoy their personal attention, worker women will have to get along with a test-tube and a vibrator.

the 'woman's world' may be a better place, they could hardly do worse than men have.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 10:42 PM

nothing like a market driven economy...

to lead a nation, and drag the world, into resource collapse and pollution catastrophe.

not that the human race is necessarily smart enough to survive under any political regime, but listening to 'capitalists' is prima facie insanity.

Saturday, September 26, 2009 02:01 PM

if you vote for politicians,

you will be ruled by politicians.

if you are too ignorant, too lazy, or just too dim to work for democracy, you will be a serf.

you get the government you deserve.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 01:59 PM

iran has no obligation to the united states.

to the contrary. after overthrowing the mossadegh government [murdering him, incidentally] and then installing the shah dictatorship, and following that with siccing the saddam regime on iran with military gifts and loans, america owes iran.

but obama seems to be in the pocket of aipac. israel is determined to be the only nuclear power in the middle east, and american presidents appear to be captive of this determination.

bush2 or obama1, you can't tell one from the other, just by watching...

Saturday, October 3, 2009 01:42 PM

use socialism to fix capitalism?

why not use socialism to prevent capitalism?

Saturday, October 3, 2009 03:26 PM

year after year, generation after generation,

the 'business cycle' lurches from too much to not enough. and the troughs are 'temporary', 'natural', and even 'a war of necessity.' no, that's the other theme- endless war for endless profits.

and the american chumps buy it, year after year, generation after generation. you have to suspect fluoridation,or inbreeding, no one can be this dumb naturally. just shows that american education and medja are the equal of any ministry of truth.

democracy is better, folks, it makes socialism and peace attainable through the ballot box rather than waiting for civil war.
