if obama gets anywhere near this level of success,

i'll have to stop calling him a politician.

mr romm holds out a bag of candy, but it's going to be hard to get. i'd bet on the destruction of human society, with a 'saver' on total collapse of the biosphere before i'd hope to get near this program romm puts forward.

however, since there's no way to collect on my preferred position, would you all email obama and tell him he's a one term president if he don't do like jr said? thx.

Original article: The buck stops where?

dubya as manager of a truck stop.

that's probably his level of competence. or maybe he could handle a mcdonalds.

the political process put him in command of the worlds biggest war machine.

a rational person would now be thinking, "we need to change that process."

not many rational people in the us of a, is there.

20.000 soldiers are more than enough to protect the white house and capitol.

from you.

but it's a measure of the cowardice of the bush regime- 10,000 was probably enough.

actually, the dc coppers could have done it, given the willingness of americans to bob their heads to the president.

they used to teach history in the united states. it had only vague connection to reality, but i remember king george liked to billet his soldiers in private homes. wonderful pacification device, and the source of american laws against use of troops 'at home'.

even the romans had some sense of self preservation against their generals: generals who returned home for whatever reason had to leave their armies on the far side of the rubicon river.

politicians like to use armies to maintain their position. smart politicians don't do it though- when only the army votes, only generals win election.

one more team member needed;

the one who says: "driving foreigners into murderous rage is not good policy".

i'm waiting for obama's first 5-year plan:

it'll be something like this:

1st, we shoot all the lawyers.

2nd, we ship all the financial advisors, brokers, and 'engineers' to a labor camp in yunnan, in a reciprocal deal where tibetan monks who get out of line help build roads in the mojave.

3rd, we invite everyone who voted republican since the death of eisenhower to submit to a scarlet 'r' on their clothing, as an act of repentance. they must submit if anyone wants to kick them.

4th, dem voters get a 'd', and are laughed at by anyone. the fools thought the democrat party was better.

5th, all american money is recalled, and replaced with plastic tokens that can can only buy things at walmart.

6th, since 5 years of this won't be enough, obama will be president until the situation is improved. he'll let us know when that is.

Original article: Sympathy for Charles Graner

does w. f. calley ring a bell?

he did 2 stints of house arrest for being in charge of the murder of 350-or so women and children. america changed the channel so fast that it's a bit surprising he didn't walk. but he didn't, total about 3 years confinement to barracks. from one point of view, like for instance if he was in the nazi army, he should've hung. but he was in the american army, and unless you're willing to hang every one in his chain of command, he should've walked, because vietnamese were officially 'unpeople'.

with this context of american military history, graner deserved loss of a week-end pass. remember, he was outside. the boys in the windowless room weren't doing less, you may be sure.

Original article: In Barack we trust?

if a fellow was a bettin' man

he could'a cleaned up by backing the notion that 'obama is a politician', just before the election. now, already too late, not even in office, and he stays away from bodies of water lest he be asked to walk on it by unbelievers.

nations don't change course unless they are severely beaten up and occupied by patient victors. obama may be a 'good king', better hope so as the last was so bad the e.r. team are shaking their heads. but he's just another king, for 4 years or 8, and the wheel turns again. in america, the wheel of history is more like the cylinder of a six-shooter- the nation plays russian roulette every 4 years and half the chambers are loaded.

america needs a law-giver, a constitution writer, a prophet- and needs to listen. not likely to happen, and juggernaut will keep rolling to destruction.

obama will just be one name on the role of kings. if mankind survives archeologists will surmise he was a particularly bad one, since the american empire visibly collapsed just after he took the purple.

you're looking in the wrong direction.

the problem isn't co2. it's people.

the solution is mass war, supplemented by pandemics. when we're back below 1 billion, and those riding bicycles, the planet has a chance. but only if we get it done quick.

you're contribution is easy: store a few bicycles in a secure cellar, with maybe a pedal generator.

provoke violence around the world with insulting emails about leaders and religions to foreign countries, not forgetting to be rude to your neighbors. support national leaders that talk tough and promote armament.

i realize this seems a drop in the bucket, but it's much more likely to save the planet than turning out a few lights while increasing the number of light turners on.

and it's by no means hopeless, look how easy it was for dubya to make a war out of nothing.

let's hope daddy is fighting his own wars.

i suspected you did this for money.

there was that 'professional' flavor.

imagine having to find 750 words every week, whether you've got something to say, or not.

Original article: Is Obama president yet?

i wonder if some academic...

is writing a paper on comparative governance, or even sketching out a whole new idea in political structure for america. it would be nice to think this archaic system, fundamentally medieval, was stimulating plans for improvement.

even britain, with it's class system, is capable of better transition between a failed government and it's replacement. and their monarch causes less trouble than america's.

nobody saw it coming?

detroit's problems, and the housing crisis, and the financial meltdown, they all appeared out of the mist last thursday?

what exactly do politicians get paid to do?
