there will be no prosecution.

the nation that gave w f calley tgree tears of house arrest is not about to indict it's national leaders.

if you lay a glove on the guy in the black hood and leather pants, the whole rotten edifice of government will ultimately come crashing down.

you can't hang the little guy, and let the lawyers walk, and their masters are safe: obama has already committed war crimes, and does not wish to see what the next republican administration can do with that.

Original article: Is torture really over?

ruled by laws, not by men?

laws that are only applied when some man says so, are characteristic of monarchies, on the 'l'etat, c'est moi' principle.

american policy is set by one man, a characteristic of monarchy.

america is ruled by an elective king, a king none the less, and after his soldiers have thrown their ballot-spears, he takes the throne. then the soldiers retire to their homes and await the next battle in america's war of the roses.

democracy? you wouldn't know it if it bit you on the bum.

when you live in an oligarchy-

civilians can only beg, as conason does here.

if america had citizen initiative, dubya and his gang would be in jail.

except, if america had citizen initiative, dubya wouldn't have the opportunity to trash the nation.

but first you need citizen quality people, who demand democracy.

nazi corpses exonerated..

they shouldn't have been prosecuted, and shouldn't have been hung. they were only doing their duty and following orders.

Original article: Will Israel attack Iran?

"let's support the zionists'-

somebody in the democrat national committee said in '47. "we need a big jewish turn-out in new york next year, and besides, what can it hurt?"

Monday, April 13, 2009 08:38 PM

ahmadinejad was a model..

of logic and restraint, compared to dubya.

america's track record in the middle east is simply vile, and iran has suffered greatly from it. so, too, has iraq and the palestinians.

europe has profited from this as well. the establishment of israel painted over europe participation in the holocaust, transforming europe's 'jewish problem' into the palestinian's jewish problem.

the great injustice of zionism may succeed, with this powerful backing, but the people of the middle east know what happened and will not soon forget.

a good job you couldn't lose?

what makes you think you deserve something that only the rich and well-connected have? thinking above you station, there.

Friday, April 10, 2009 07:31 PM

quite right!

blonde american dollies can expect a rewarding career as the trophy wife(one of, china was never impressed by monogamy) of the many new chinese plutocrats. see, nature finds a way, so polish up your mandarin girls, a whole new world awaits.

Tuesday, April 7, 2009 11:35 PM

first you get democracy.

without democracy, you can do nothing, but talk and wring your hands. with it, you can so as much as the majority is willing to do.

so quit talking, start doing. or at least shut up.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009 02:39 PM

motivation is the key:

we always act to maximize our power over our environment, there are no altruistic managers.

no mandarin will ever shape the world to benefit ordinary people, for he/she can not know what they want, can not escape the self-protective imperative, and will always be shaped by the people around, who are even more interested in self-promotion, less concerned with general welfare.

the welfare of society can only be protected by the enfranchisement of all. this will winnow out selfish and short term actions and generate large scale and long term policies for the good of all.

you are willing to pay for what you need.

and americans don't need serious journalism. they have no occasion to make serious decisions about politics, being disenfranchised from substantive decisions like 'war/peace' or 'regulation/no regulation'.

the only choice they can make is 'dem/rep', which is the spear-carriers choice in america's quadrennial war of the roses.

the swiss have democracy, and the highest rate of newspaper readership in the world. not surprising, is it?

Thursday, March 26, 2009 07:31 PM

a modest proposal:

no regulations at all, but:

publish exactly what you are planning to do, before you do it.

the problem was not the regulations per se, but that the financial engineers wrapped risk so deeply that an intelligent management of risk was difficult.

if these new gadgets had to come with a 'manual', and if government officers had done their duty, most of today's problems wouldn't have happened.

Tuesday, March 24, 2009 06:44 PM

of course not.

king barack is a member of the 'in' group, and is totally unsurprised by the aig scandal. he tries to hose it down when he can, that's part of his job description.

the yokels didn't know that wall street was so big, so well-connected, so rotten, that a few hundred 'financial engineers' could rip up the economy and tip them into penury. big surprise! and then they learn that people get paid what looks like serious money, in hicksville, after ripping up the economy. so they lost their temper, fanned by the media into a brief moment of simulated citizenship.

politicians have to say "i feel your pain", like cowboys soothing a restive herd, but it's fundamentally a boring part of their day. obama isn't angry at anyone, it's not his home slipping away.

Monday, March 23, 2009 08:43 PM
Original article: Uprising on Main Street

you can't fix a stool...

when you're standing on it. obama can not fix things, for anything he can do, the next dubya can undo. real change, that you can count on, comes only from outside.

that is the magic power of citizen initiative: real change to meet changing reality, and real stability regardless of the weaknesses of elected officers.

too bad america doesn't have citizen initiative, for without it, the nation is frozen in 1789.

Saturday, March 21, 2009 01:50 PM

what? you just noticed?

of course we are ruled by men(and a few women.) that's what the constitution says: you vote for people, not laws.

when a few people say what the laws are, they say the law is what they want.

the cure is democracy: citizen initiative. then we can vote for laws, and be a nation ruled by law, not men.

sirota makes a living by railing against the system, but i note he never suggests changing it. too much money in 'railing', i guess.
