  • when did you become like syria?

[Read the article: When did we become like Syria?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

... the day after the declaration of independence. the native americans and mexicans will agree, so will the people of south and central america. the phillipinos will agree, and the vietnamese. well, the millions you turned into corpses would agree.

the reason there's not much difference between dictatorship and the usa, is because the usa is not a democracy. california is a democracy, and many other states, but not the federal government.

when they figure this out, maybe civilized americans will change this situation. but they are maybe too few, compared to the seemingly endless supply of american thugs.

  • good news!

[Read the article: Goodbye, Mr. Bush]

mr blumenthal wiil advise on the process of undoing the damage done by tex caligula.

clearly hasn't read seneca's biography or imagines we haven't. but more likely he sees himself as consigliere to the next (female) gang boss: how can he lose by being so close to power?

the american imperium will run it's course, evil emperors succeeded by less-evil, but virtue and justice will not return to where they never were.

american liberals kid themselves that bush-lite discovered evil, when all that happened was that he was too stupid to cover his tracks. the real americans: the crocodile brained capitalists, the would-be licensed thugs, the religious people who are unconcerned by reports of 'collateral damage' dealt out by the thugs in service of the rich, these americans have set the world's opinion of america beyond repair by any politician.

but hilary will find it necessary to remain in iraq, necessary to remain in afghanistan, necessary to continue the quest for other people's oil, and necessary to invade or raid any country that does not submit to america's will. america's standard of living is 'not negotiable', yet not sustainable without banditry.

maybe mr blumenthal should look into the career of j. goebbels, being the apologist for power is not invariably a good choice.

  • don quixote

[Read the article: Chris Dodd's perfect squelch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

too bad no one is listening to the man of la mancha from alaska. mike gravel is the only candidate to address what's wrong with america, instead of promoting himself as a better captain of the sinking ship.

the american constitution was one very small step forward from georgian monarchy, but that was a long time ago. the disasters imposed by the reign of george w should encourage americans to move on to democracy. elective monarchy is just not good enough.

  • the good news is..

[Read the article: Corporate profiteering against Iraq vets?]

that this information is sometimes available. the bad news is, often it is not. maybe a nation that expects public activity to benefit the public, should require that all public activity take place in public.

politicians and bureaucrats will explain the need for secrecy, "but they would say that, wouldn't they."

i reckon anything you won't talk about in public, you are ashamed of doing, or avoiding jail.

  • impeachment

[Read the article: Dodd, Huckabee want answers on McClellan charges]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

as i understand it, the republican party thought they should impeach clinton for lieing about his sex life.

on the other hand, the democrat party does not think they should impeach bush 2 for lieing about starting a war, subverting the constitution, getting 4000 soldiers killed, or outing a cia operative.

clearly, the republican party takes a more responsible view of their duties and should be returned to power immediately.

  • reality check

[Read the article: Did Bush ask Scott McClellan to lie -- or didn't he?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

if all you folks complaining about the character of politicians would get behind mike gravel's initiative for democracy, you could make sure you wouldn't have to complain anymore.

of course this would require some actual effort from you. maybe that's why the c-student got to the throne.

  • there is one teeny little..

[Read the article: One woman, one daughter]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...loophole in this report. the fall in female reproduction has been massively warped by abortion of female fetuses. china and india in particular may have created these declining numbers. of course, we may welcome stabilizing population however achieved short of nuclear warfare, but i feel that sending young men into machine gun fields of fire is more desirable than infanticide.

better than both would be planning, but we're not there yet. educating women is not effective unless it leads to employment and independence. free condoms is a step in the right direction, perhaps we could supplement it with a bonus for voluntary castration?

  • never complain about mike huckabee

[Read the article: Mike Huckabee's Middle East miscue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

instead, consider the genuine creeps that have slithered out of the republican woodwork.

if you must have an elected king, you are now in the fortunate position of 'every choice is an improvement on current position.' huckabee is the perfect choice for republicans: ignorant, opinionated, religious, and charming. quite like king george the w, really, but nicer and not warped by a lifetime as the runt of the family.

for a nation that brags continually about it's 'democracy', surely it finally time to put aside your current mimicry of georgian britain, and support gravel's ideas on real democracy.

  • corruption

[Read the article: Time magazine's FISA fiasco shows how Beltway reporters mislead the country]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

american society is rotten at every level. those on top steal, lie and kill by proxy. the middle watches, and demands a cut. on the bottom survival excuses immorality.

so what else is new? for a nation continually saying in god we trust, american history suggests outward piety was merely camouflage for murderous rapacity.

for all those who condemn the president, who condemn congress for not impeaching, what have you done to convince congress that their political survival demands simulation of indignation and action on it?

    just a guess, not much?

  • picking kings by campaign skill

[Read the article: What does it really take?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

this is an improvement on coin-flipping. but it's easy to improve on coin-flipping.

suppose a candidate wrote a short book: "policies i will implement if elected". about 10,000 words would be enough, with a 1000 word synopsis. suppose more than half the reps and senators of this party were willing to endorse these policies. the electorate would know what it's getting, wouldn't they?

but this doesn't happen. the electorate doesn't want policies, they want a nice guy to look after them, or a strong guy to protect them, or a tough guy to keep the losers in their side of town.

this is the politics of the tribe, amplified by electronics, but not evolved. maybe trial by campaign is just ape politics, in a suit.
