more proof that growing up stinks
[Read the article: The Jesus symbol, the witch and the wardrobe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is more proof that growing up stinks and adults will always find a way to spoil the innocence and imagination of a child. Why can't we just enjoy this movie for what it is and not what it may or may not convey. Why is it when Williams was found to be gay he wasn't a gay play writer, but a play writer who was gay - whereas Lewis HAS TO BE a christian writer. Who cares?
Maybe Lewis had a father who didn't give him enough attention, or maybe he gave him too much attention. Take your pick and write what you will, but don't marginalize that fact that this is one of the few great pieces of fiction where an adult successfully took a young reader into another world - a world full of epic battles and fantastic characters. It's a story first and it's underline intention is a distant second and one that only an adult would notice and thus otherwise spoil.
Look at the submitted letters - how sad is it that we as adults appreciate this movie not because we are transported into this fantasy world, but rather because it brings us back to a time when we could dream and believe in another world. The only people who should ban themselves from seeing this movie are the grownups, because they can spoil anything.

King is trying to make the story fit the point
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Exactly what his point is . . I am not sure. Did Landis dope? Let's wait to see the results of the B sample. Regarding two of King's misleading points: Of course the tour is going to suffer from low ratings here in the states. There is no more Mr. Amrstrong (and as a two decade long cycling fan, thank you. It was tour de bore with Amrstrong - except for 2003). King says the fact that viewership dropped in France and Germany is proof, too. Let's hope Salon doesn't apply this ones-sided non-scrutinized logic to to politics. Germany had months and months of speculation and hype that finally big Jan would win another tour. And by all accounts he probably was going to. Then he got kicked out the day before the tour because of an ongoing investigation which, by the way, had nothing to do with the UCI or the world doping agency, it was a self-imposed rule by team directors. King also forgot to mention that five spanish riders also kicked out for the same investigation have just been cleared, so too may Jan. The point is, though, Germany lost their wonder boy and no one watched (see the absence of Armstrong as a comparison for the US market). Regarding France, France has not been in serious contention since 1990. They lost their two good mountain climber the polka dot jersey a few years ago and since then they don't have much. So what's different about 2006 - just a small thing called the world cup which was going on at the same time. Come on, King.
As for the comments made by Mamma Landis about her son and how she isn't being a support for her son - As King knows and failed to mention, this is a woman who also firmly believes that her son is going to hell cause he goes against Mennonite beliefs. The support was lacking from well before Landis made it to the tour, King.

Good article, but . . . .
[Read the article: Is the homeland where America's heart is?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As typical Salon published a great article on an all too important issue. Good work. The author nailed all the points and as someone who lived in DC for 12 years and has moved back to Connecticut I can attest should you drive three miles from the water you will find a demographic that is far more aligned to the south than the typical generalization of a liberal, east cost person from Connecticut.
My only but . . . , I have never, ever seen some dudes taking the Q train with NASCAR jackets. I think that might be fiction.

"testy" - maybe
[Read the article: Is Obama getting "testy"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Testy - maybe, maybe not. Does he act like he is the anointed proponent of change? Yes. Has he done anything outside of being a gifted orator to earn my vote? No.
How about Salon asking those questions. Cause so far, here is what I see: there is no difference between Obama and McCain with the war and Obama's health care stinks.
