Original article: Ted Kennedy's last battle

@Glock45

What's next? You going to regale us with how the Illuminati, the Jews and the Freemasons are promoting H1N1 vaccinations as a way to kill 80% of the population and install the New World Order?

You're a hater, plain and simple. You'd be a hater if Obama declared National Free Kitten and Blowjob Day. You'd be a hater if the Democrats solved every major national problem overnight. And if you're stupid enough to buy the "death panels" crap, then you're not worth any more of my time. Good day.

Randall Terry/Orly Taitz ticket?

I can think of no two people more ideal to represent the "Republicans Hate America" platform than Mr. Operation Rescue and the Queen of the Birthers. They cover the entire gamut of what defines the GOP today: hate-filled, intolerant, ignorant, and utterly batshit insane.

Maybe Randall can appoint Sarah Palin Secretary of State.

And yet...

...this won't make one iota, one scintilla of difference to the delusional conservative hardliners who insist that anything is justified in the interest of "keeping America safe."

Which, to translate, means, "Keeping us in a faux-macho posture of war and belligerence in which there are no ambiguities or relative truths and we can feel good about ourselves by association as true believers in our badass nation."

These idiots, who are now the pathetic losers bringing firearms to town hall meetings and calling it free expression, will never be convinced by anything, because Bush was their sad, pitiful God.

I think I just threw up in my mouth

at the thought of Rush Limbaugh's bloated, fishbelly-white foreskin.

Hey, maybe the new coverage of the next election can be "Circumcision 2010"!

You just can't make this stuff up

And I am so grateful for that. My long days of writing and deadlines are so much easier with this kind of hilarity.

@humanaction

Dude, you so don't get it. We cover Palin because she's so eminently mockable. In fact, it's becoming too easy. I can't wait until her first public speech when she says something newly inane that William Shatner can turn into Beat poetry.

It's fun for us libruls to watch Palin and contemplate her being the face of the GOP in 2012. Personally, that makes me warm and tingly all over with the thought of the future hilarity.

Original article: Los Angeles is burning

@ashraf ali and the rest of the assholes

Screw the hell out of you, saying it's "cool" that Katrina has come to Los Angeles. I spent 44.4 of my 44.6 years living in Southern Cal (I just relocated to Seattle), and most of the folks living in the Basin are not celebrities, nor do they have Botox IV drips, nor do they drive Porsches. They're regular folks just like anywhere else.

California may be fucked because of the fires, the state budget mess, illegal immigration and all the rest, but the people deserve your compassion, not your juvenile, retarded, oh-so-anonymous derision. Just another example of how the distance of the Internet brings out the classless.

As long as the Santa Ana winds blast in off the desert every September and October, SoCal will burn. It is a part of the natural cycle and while there are things that can be done to prevent property loss (concrete and steel homes come to mind), that cycle will never end. By the way, the Santa Anas are one thing I will NEVER miss about SoCal. But I do miss Wahoo's.

Original article: This Modern World

@normbreyfogle

Big props for the "Sweeney Todd" shout-out.

Steele is a tool

Not even a sharp tool. A socket wrench with no sockets.

I love how he tries to establish street cred with the bruthas, like every black person responds to that sort of empty posturing. What a riot.

Michael, as you would probably say, you are the shizzle, dawg.

Another incident

The jury's out for me on this one, too: true vs. rumor. But there was a documented assault at a health rally yesterday in Miami, where a 52-yo man punched a 65-yo pro-reform man in the face.

Maybe we should just let all these idiots go at each other in some sort of arena. Might "reduce the surplus population" and reduce the cost of reform, as well as giving the gene pool a nice squeegee job.

I would love to see...

...Obama, in his address to Congress next week, call the behavior of the Far Right and the lunatic base of the Republican Party what it is: delusional and psychotic. Just come right out and call a spade a spade (no racial overtones there, OK?). Isn't it about time we started propagating the meme that "conservatives are all batshit insane"? I mean, seriously start linking the concept of being off your meds and being a wacko, living-in-your-parents'-basement conspiracy junkie to being part of the GOP?

Someone on this thread asked why America has so many wackos. I know, even in blue as hell Seattle, we had a town hall about healthcare and I was stunned by the abject ignorance and reactionary stupidity of many, many of the comments and speakers. Maybe it's time we quit discriminating against gays and blacks and started discriminating against the stupid and too fucking lazy to read the Constitution.

What Obama needs to do

I would crap my pants if Obama had the guts in his speech to say this:

"To my colleagues in the GOP, I know that in your reply to this speech you will find fault with many of my ideas. That is your right and your duty. However, I call upon you to do more than simply be the "party of No." Simply denouncing my proposals and the Democratic proposals before Congress is not acceptable. Simply propagating more misrepresentations and outright lies about my healthcare proposals is not acceptable. If you can't come to the table with a viable alternative, then shut the fuck up."

Or words to that effect. Won't happen, though. Obama's so busy trying to be a uniting Jesus figure that he's ignoring the fact that the Republitards and their screaming loonies are stealing his wallet, slashing his tires, and screwing his wife right under his nose.
