The I Word
[Read the article: On to Iran?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Congress really can't do much to oppose the commander in chief--even one as grossly incompetent as this one--in wartime when it comes to deployment of forces. So that leaves only one question, one Speaker Pelosi needs to become willing to discuss:
When are we going to seriously start talking about IMPEACHMENT????

The male side of the equation
[Read the article: Getting ahead by working from home?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm a father of one with another on the way, and I've been a freelance writer working at home for more than 12 years. It's enabled me to make a good living, control my time, and most important, care for my daughter while my wife, an educator, went back to work. Now, with a second child coming, I'm trying to help my wife to break the work bonds and create a home business on the Internet. Both of us being at home would be an incomparable blessing.
Not everyone has this luxury, but it's worth every effort to push our society to create new, flexible solutions for people who want to simplify life and put family co-equal with work.

To Robert Lewis
[Read the article: From bad to worse]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, and yes.
There remain a lot of frighteningly self-deluding, apathetic folks in this country.
I do have a solution for the supposedly powerless Congress stopping Bush's escalation of the war, however: a little secret confab at the White House between Bush and the Democratic leadership of the Senate and House. The talk goes something like this: "Dubya, either you back off the surge and announce an immediate plan for phased withdrawal of troops while bringing in the UN to work on partitioning Iraq into 3 self-governing states, or we announce impeachment hearings starting tomorrow. Your choice."
Talk about flop sweat.

Impeachment? Quite possible
[Read the article: Two long years to go]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The LW who makes the excellent point that the Bush presidential cluster-fuck points up the deep flaws in our system--the Electoral College and lack of a quick parliamentary path for removing the kind of dangerously incompetent Chief Exec we suffer with today--but neglects to mention that impeachment is still our best option.
Mr. Shapiro says that incompetence isn't grounds for impeachment. True. But lying to Congress about the reasons for going to war is. It's a felony to lie to Congress. How about violating the FISA law and illegally wiretapping Americans' communications? How about tacitly or openly approving the outing of Valerie Plame as CIA, also a felony? Sanctioning the violation of the Geneva Conventions by promoting secret trials and supporting torture may not qualify; I'm not a Constitutional lawyer.
The point is, there's plenty of ammo for the House to hold impeachment hearings, the Senate to try Bush and Cheney, and the nation to oust this outrageously stupid monkey and his Darth Vader VP before they can do much more damage. It's time for Speaker Pelosi to start talking impeachment.
Please. Please. For the love of God and this nation.

Are you for real?
[Read the article: "We will be showing him the way"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A.J., I can't believe you're still spewing that same "Defeatocrats, cut and run" garbage even now, when the Iraq war has been proven to be the biggest debacle since the Depression and Bush and the Republicans have proven to be the most power-mad, ideologically blinded, incompetent ruling party in this nation's history.
Spare us the Delusional Right's catch phrases and look at what's really going on. We've already lost the war. Iraq is in a state of civil war that would take 300,000 more troops to pacify, if indeed it could be pacified. Meanwhile, our presence there is making the potential situation with Iran and Syria worse and wrecking the morale and capabiliy of our military. Just as with Vietnam, we have to ask the hard question: "Is continuing this war benefiting our national interest in any way that makes it worth continuing?" The answer is "No."
None of the reasons for the war have proven true. It is not making us any safer, as clearly the war has sparked the recruitment of more terrorists than existed before it began. It is not bringing stability to thr region; if anything, it is de-stabilizing the Mideast. It is pulling resources away from our legitimate cause in Afghanistan, where the Taliban are returning in droves and what we did there in 2002 is at risk of failure. And most important, it is costing thousands of American and Iraqi lives for a venture that has been proved to be based on lies, lies and more lies from Bush and his Neocon allies.
Fuck what Iran or al Qaeda have to say. Has it occurred to you, genius, that they say the things they do to sow political discord in this country, because they know that if they shout "Boo!" we'll trash our own country out of the kind of fear Bush has worked hard to promote? After all, that's what we've done for the last 5 years.
You can call it "cut and run." I call it "wake the hell up." It's time to open our eyes and realize that this war is a catastrophe and our national interest will be 1,000 times better served by calling it what it is and acting accordingly.

Oh, and by the way...
[Read the article: "We will be showing him the way"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...because I know what your main argument will be, getting Saddam out of power was NOT and will NEVER BE justification for going into Iraq. He was a monster, yes. But he was not a threat to the U.S., and every president's first responsibility is attending to the welfare of his own country before that of others.

Pardon me for vulgarity, but...
[Read the article: "A ping-pong game with American lives"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]FUCK non-binding resolutions. They're nothing but gutless parliamentary geegaws that allow lawmakers to say to their constituents, "See? I did something about Iraq!"
The only remedy for a president who won't listen to Congress, the media or the vast majority of the people whom he was elected to serve is impeachment. Congress MUST act on impeachment. Now.

[Read the article: Bush makes nice, but Dick is still a killer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fuck you, Wolf.
Fuck you, America.
Fuck you, Democrats.
We have the ball and we're not giving it back until 2009. So there.
We double-dog dare you to impeach us. Nyah.
CheneyBush is a MONSTER.
Our only option is immediate impeachment.
