Disney's burden...

I find it so sad that after all of these years there has not been a brown or black prince or princess storyline out of Disney.

Its so boring and incorrect to believe that the only princess worthy of a Disney movie is one with white skin.

I wonder if and when Disney gets around to putting those films out white American moms will take their kids to see brown and black "royals"?

Brits condem Bush...

Not suprising.

If the G.W. Bush administration is STILL looking around wondering what its collective legacy is - HERE IT IS!

Even the Brits don't trust Bush!

Although, I'm not a Presidentialist, I predict that this administration will go down as one of the worse in the history of the Union. I can't wait until they are gone. Very sad stuff.

While some things change, much stays the same...

This election year the USA may elect its first African/caucasian President.

While all of the change(s) around us happens at a rapid pace, the southern portion of this country holds out.

On second thought, I query if racial differences will change very much even after the election of a President Obama?

I suspect it maybe more difficult for "whites" and those who live their lives as "whites" to move away from or even "adjust" old ways of existing.

What's the alternative?

Its affirming to know that in this great country you can have a third grade education, three front teeth and make $25K annually and STILL know that at least 12% of the population is worse off than you simply because of skin color!

The Hillbillies Go to Washington...

When Palin brought her family out I was looking to see if Granny, Ellie-Mae and Jethro would be following behind.

McCain's choice was stupid and smacks of pandering.

There are far more experienced Republican women who are better suited for the office.

FINALLY!

Kwame should be ashamed of himself.

He knew all along he was guilty. He's just too arrogant and selfish.

If he were a thoughtful man, he would have apologized to Detroit, stepped down and moved on with his life.

However, he allowed his EGO to dictate his actions and today is the finale to the sad tragedy.

Let's Stay Focused

While I understand its important to point out Palin's shortcomings.

I feel quite strongly that its more important to note that Senator McCain voted the majority of the time with George W. Bush.

Therefore, it is not unreasonable to conclude that McCain is at least somewhat responsible for the miserable state this country is in.

Let's not reward him for his ties to Bush by giving him the Presidency!

The Republican Agenda

Folks - this is just what the Republicans want.

They want us to continue to talk about Palin and her "issues".

However, the REAL ISSUE is that the Republicans have failed for the past 8 years to move this country forward in a positive and prosperous way.

Just look at our economy.

We are involved in 2 wars abroad. One of which we now have learned may have been based on "faulty" intelligence?

Please.

Sarah Palin is irrelevant. The REAL issue is that the Republican agenda is a complete failure. Let's make certain that they are not allowed to have 4 more years to do the same.

Political Strategy at its worse

I believe McCain thought that this stunt would help to deflect the fact that HIS party is the one that allowed this mess to fester for so long.

Now all of a sudden he's "headed back to Washington" like a good American to fix problems that should have been addressed by the White HOuse a year ago?

DRAMATIC - YES! EFFECTIVE_ NO

@Mike leP

I totally agree with your post regarding McCain's actions.

It really makes me wonder how he would function under "real pressure".

In this instance it is not as if the legislature and the administration would not be able to carry on as McCain and Obama contunued to campaign and debate.

Finally, the continuation of the Presidential campaign maybe just as important for the nation in that it may provide assurance to many that no matter what the business of the Union carries on.

Go Back to Wasilla

Its true Sarah did not crash and burn at the VP debate.

However, I was not convinced by her performance that she is prepared to be a heart beat away from the presidency.

Her nasal hick voice alone would send me to Bellevue Hospital if I had to listen to it everynight on the evening news!

Bottomline, I think her handlers did a fair job in preparing her for the debates. She made a point of getting ALL of her talking points out there, no matter if they were in response to Ifil's question.

Do us all a favor Sarah leave the ticket. Go back to Alaska and handle all of the open investigations you are involved in. Leave national politics to those who are smart enough to handle them.

@LGordon

Yes. If you are 60 miles from NYC you fall into that category. Most N.E. coast elitist don't have kitchen tables. Don't try and use this as an excuse.

Now go eat your foie gras!

This is an outrage!

Is nothing sacred in this country today?

The next thing you know blacks will want to vote and then women and...oh wait. Never mind.

THINK B4 U WRITE

I read this and thought what a nice way to take a Princeton and Havard grad down to the lowest common place.

Mrs. Obama is an acomplished person and deserves a little more respect than this banal tripe.

I'm usually open minded about most dumb stuff on Salon.com but this is an all time low!

HIGH COURT CLASS OF 2009

I think the President elect should make it a point to seat another female on the High court.

Females bring interesting perspectives that are often missed by their male peers.

IMHO I'd shy away from stacking the court with lawyers affiliated with the U of C. Did we not learn our lesson with Justice Scalia?!
