AIPAC = The Neocons = The Israeli Government
[Read the article: Neocons and the truth: Bitter enemies to the end]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"It isn't just the American neocons, but also the Israelis, who are escalating the "Attack Iran" campaign."
AIPAC, The American Neocons and the Israeli Government are interconnected to the point where it is hard to tell where one ends and the other starts. It is time we call things by their real names before we are royally screwed for the second time (this time it will be much worst than Iraq!).

The Neocons have to lie!
[Read the article: Neocons and the truth: Bitter enemies to the end]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How else would they be able to sucker the rest of us into fighting Israel's wars for hegemony over the Middle East?
How many Americans (not to mention Iraqis, Iranians and others) will have to die to shore up an apartheid theocracy that poses as a democracy?
I guess the answer is: for as long as the rest of us, including the great majority of politicians, continue to be misled by the Israel Lobby (or don't have the guts to stand up to it).
Those with the courage to tell the truth, like Jimmy Carter and professors Walt and Mearsheimer, are immediately dismissed and marginalized (and even accused of anti-semitism!) by the MSM. But people are starting to understand how devastating it is for American interests to have a foreign power manipulate and control Middle Eastern policy.

Hillary is McCain's best friend
[Read the article: Poetry vs. fear]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I hope Gary Kamiya is right about America still being "young" and able to choose an Obama over a McCain.
My concern is twofold:
1) You can bet that Republicans will make fear mongering the center of their campaign. Sadly, fear remains a powerful thing.
2) Hillary's decision to go on with her campaign - even though everyone who can count knows she has no chance of winning - is going to be very damaging to the Democrats. She is McCain's best friend.

This is absolutely nauseating!
[Read the article: Finding Obama guilty of insufficient devotion to Israel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The power of the Israel Lobby to get politicians - even someone like Obama who is supposed to be different- to bend over backward to prove their undying devotion for Israel makes me sick.
All this for an apartheid state that practices ethnic cleansing and collective punishment and makes America look bad, real bad in the world!
Sadly politicians with a consciousness get to speak the truth only when they are out of office (Read Jimmy Carter's recent article in the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/may/08/israelandthepalestinians)

Obama will never do as far as the Israel Lobby is concerned
[Read the article: Finding Obama guilty of insufficient devotion to Israel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"“The anxiety on the part of the Jewish Right is that Obama is the Manchurian candidate,” says Joshua Landis, a professor at Oklahoma University, “that he has secret sympathy with Muslims, and the whole war of terror which relies on demonizing Islam isn’t going to float. They hear him undoing everything that’s been done under Bush, the idea that Israel’s war with the Palestinians is America’s war with terrorism. They’ve worked hard to cut out any daylight on these issues. And here is Obama trying to put the daylight back in there.”"
- The American Conservative, http://www.amconmag.com/2008/2008_05_05/article1.html
In other words, Obama may put a stop to, or at least slow down, the massive neocon-engineered push to get America to fight Israel's wars.

Understanding what Friedman's war declaration is about
[Read the article: Tom Friedman's latest declaration of war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Israel Lobby has been pushing hard to create an alternate universe where Israel's war against the Palestinians and its regional ambitions for domination are packaged as part of America's war on terror.
With enough fear mongering and hate mongering it might even work.
This is the right context for understanding where Friedman is coming from.

@david sugarman and all. Please stop the spin
[Read the article: On armies, war and an aging Israel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let's face it guys. The problem, as aVulcan and many others have articulated, is twofold:
1) Israel was founded on ethnically cleansing the native Palestinian population. It continues to do so today through its colonies in the West Bank. No amount of spin - no matter how clever- will change this. Thank you aVulcan for your posts on Israeli historian Benny Morris and ethnic cleansing. The scariest part is how Morris thinks that the main problem with completing the ethnic cleansing today is that the world wouldn't allow it and suggests what amounts to waiting for a more opportune time to complete the job!
2) Israel defines itself as a nation for a religious group (i.e. Jews). This is fundamentally anti-democratic and results in others (i.e. Palestinians) being put in a position where at best they are second class citizens (i.e. Palestinians with Israeli citizenship) or at worst dispossessed people who can be killed with impunity (i.e. Palestinian residents of the West Bank and Gaza).
As an aside, being a student of history, I find your assertion that the Jews were treated like shit by Arabs to reek of malice and ignorance. Jews thrived under Arab civilization (e.g. in Spain) like they never thrived in their history. But I guess when hatemongering is your goal, the truth goes out the window.

@sugarman
[Read the article: On armies, war and an aging Israel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Clearly Jews thrive in America, as do all other ethnicities. After all, America is a country for all its citizens and doesn't define itself as God's gift to a single religious group to the exclusion of all others which is more than I can say for Israel).
BTW In my post, I was referring to the middle ages but you knew this of course.
In any case, I don't see you offering any real solutions to the problems of the Middle East other than more hatemongering!
