The courts do have the obligation to provide equal protection under the law to all citizens. We have already acknowledged that the founding fathers did not mean African-Americans or women when they wrote that statement but thank the goddess, we have finally acknowledged that nonetheless it applies to both. It is finally time to broaden the definition of citizen to include gay men and women, in order that we finally live in a truly free state.
How so. Madonna worked hard, did what she had to, and made it big. She has always called her own shots. You may or may not like her music, but you have to respect her drive. She needed a man like a fish needed a bicycle.
I cannot believe that air travellers today, who are the most privileged humans to exist in the history of our world, are whining that they cannot carry toothpaste or moisturizer onto a plane. Would it be such a hardship to be limited to a clear plastic bag containing necessities in exchange for the luxury of arriving a continent away in the matter of a few hours? I would imagine that any number of millions of people in developing countries around the world would exchange such "inconveniences" for their hardships such as starvation, disease, and genocide.
Give me a break you whiners!
As a matter of fact, maryannh, I have flown coach from Europe and flew on Thursday 8/10 with my 8 month old daughter (her third airline trip). Yes, it was frustrating and difficult. I still say stop the whining. We do not have the money (thanks to our Iraq fiasco) to invest in security for the sake of airline passenger convenience.
This would be funny if it weren't so sad. Unfortunately, that seems to be true of too many stories these days.
I find it very sad you have printed several reviews based upon the opinions of those who have not yet viewed the film. COM is a painfully exquisite film. It is an appropriate tale for the holiday season. It reminds us that all life is sacred, regardless of sectarian affiliation.
Owen is in fine form, as a man once buoyed by faith and now beaten down by chance. As a life-long lover of Michael Caine, I will say this is his most enjoyable role, as a wonderful aging hippie who is devoted to his tortured wife. A cautionary tale for anyone who has ever felt ever so slightly superior to his or her less privileged neighbor, this film for all its bleakness, reminded this agnostic of the “reason for the season.”
