Original article: Pissed about Palin

LIVEnAK

Ok, I'll admit that I haven't come close to reading all the letters posted here, (busy working) so someone else has probably made this observation, but LIVEnAK, you are a satirist, right?

The bit about how Sarah Palin is experienced because she commands the Alaska National Guard made me spit Diet Coke on my keyboard. Thanks for the laugh!

On the off chance that you're not trying to be funny, I must say it's so cute the way you have cut-and-pasted facts from the RNC web site or wherever, and therefore consider yourself to be intelligent and well-reasoned. Just like a kid in 7th grade.

The idea of "experience", to people with actually functioning brains, is more about education, which can take many forms, and judgment. On this basis, Sarah Palin is no more qualified, in my opinion, to be VP than I am.

Note I say in my opinion , because that is all that matters. Our opinions. If you feel comfortable placing your country and your library and your uterus under Sarah Palin's control, go right ahead and vote for McCain/Palin. I hope for the sake of The US that you are in a minority.

Original article: Lamest Emmys ever?

It's Like ABC Was Daring You to Change the Channel

I'm 42, and growing more curmudgeonly by the hour, unfortunately, but even I found these tributes to past TV shows incredibly lame. Actually, sad. Who, of the dozen or so people under the age of 40 who watched that mess, would now understand the impact of Laugh In or the Mary Tyler Moore show??

Thank God for PVR- I just muted the mess, let it record, did other things, than sped through looking for the good parts.

Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and John Adams were all really deserving.

Oh, and thank God for Don Rickles.

Next Up- Postpone the Election!

This past week has been so surreal that I half-expect the Republicans to announce that they're suspending the Constitution and postponing the election, due to the "Deepening Crisis".

Let's all take that final step to becoming a South American Dictatorship!

I Learned of a Friend's Impending Divorce From a FB Status Change!

"xxxx has changed her status from married to single ." Now that was weird...

I am an ancient 42 (147 in FB years) and I can say that the errors come from all ages. After interviewing a few candidates for a job at a Fortune 100 company, I went back to my desk and looked them up on FB. In one case, I found an open profile replete with the standard drunk-guy photos, and pompous quotes about himself lifted from Wall Street .

Into the slush pile went his resume...

I have a whopping 30 friends on FB, because I choose not to open myself up to this sort of thing. If I wouldn't mix all these people together at a party, I won't mix them on my FB page.

"Privatize the Gains, Socialize the Losses"

That is a perfect description of the current "Free Market".

Sickening.

McCain Makes Me Physically ILL

Jesus Christ, has he had some kind of stroke, and the only sentence he is still able to say is "It's Obama's fault!"????

HOW is the fact that only 1/3 of Republicans voted for this bill Obama's fucking fault? Isn't there a Republican president? Why couldn't McCain deliver a few more Republicans, if he's such a great freaking leader??

And this business that it's Nancy Pelosi's fault for making a "partisan" speech, therefore causing several sensitive members of the GOP to vote no?? Seriously?? These people were going to vote yes, then heard some criticism, and thought EFF YOU, AMERICA, and voted no?? Take that, Nancy!

John McCain should rot in hell. I used to just not want him in the White House. Now I want him in the 9th circle.

And Here We Go!

The next month is going to be filled with disgustingly desperate lies and twisted half-truths. The scumbags who run the McCain campaign actually said they are doing this to deflect attention away from the economy. God, how pathetic.

This is the first shot, but look for more subtle and not-so-subtle racist comments to start flowing from "surrogates". This bullshit will grow and become even more ugly than I think I can stand. So what do we do about it? Sling back all the easily-found mud possible, or take the high road?

I'm so worried about the outcome of this election. Please, if you are an intelligent, reasonable American, make SURE you are registered, and get out there and register as many like-minded people as you can. If you don't, you may find yourself living in a very scary place come January 20, wondering how on earth you got there.

MCCAIN, HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT, YOU SAD, DESPERATE SHELL OF A MAN????

Thanks, Salon, for letting me vent.

I'm So Thoroughly Disgusted. And Saddened..

I really want Obama to win because I think he is an exceedingly intelligent consensus-builder who will gather the best minds together to work for a solution to Americas (and, increasingly, the world's) problems. I'm not concerned with his skin colour, his funky name (which, personally, I think is really cool) or if he's had the occasional conversation with someone considered "radical". He's the right man for the times. Obama has also shown far greater character in this election process thus far, and judging by where McCain / Palin are taking things now, he will continue to do so.

But what of John McCain? Is this the way he wants to win? He wants people to vote for him because he has made them fear that Barack Obama is a terrorist-in-disguise? All the more sickening, because you know McCain doesn't remotely think that himself. I am so disgusted that he would take the country in that ugly direction purely for his own grab at power.

And how sad that it might work. How sad that there are people who eat this stuff up, who will give in to the simplicity of racism and not endeavor to make sense of the candidate's platforms, then vote for the one who best fits their consciences.

Come on, America, be your best selves, respond to hope, not fear, and please register as many people as you can to vote.
