Most enjoyable way to spend Labor Day, I think

Thanks again Glenn for another keen attack on right wing hypocrisy but even more for filing on a holiday so that more than the usual outstanding GG commentariat can make such interesting posts. Anyone reading the posts today with an open mind could not help but have learned much and enjoyed it thoroughly like I did. And for a few came a very important light bulb moment which is immensely satisfying to an open, inquiring mind.

Those with closed minds miss out on so much of what is really important in life. We should always remember that their conflicted souls cause much inner unhappiness even though from outward appearances they seem “successful.” They wouldn’t write and think like they do if they had learned to love themselves instead of having to put others down to love themselves. The fact that it would be impossible for them to understand and appreciate the postings of Bebob-o shows how sad the mind world they live in must be.

By obtaining a clearer view of their mindset, we can muster our resources and double our resolve to do whatever we can to ensure a better world for our children and grandchildren because closed, sick minds around the world are putting us on a precipice that we will all fall over.

@Anyone who still responds to the likes of Shooter

I swore off responding to shooter quite some time ago. Would someone please tell him that he just confirmed that what we have been trying to do through reason and logic is an extremely difficult task with closed minds.

Propagandee

“Right wingnuts are shit at governing, as they have so amply proved these last 6 1/2 years. But they are very, very good at undermining support for any agenda other than their own.”

Perhaps that is because they feel more comfortable as victims. When you believe you are a victim, like those who are victims of authoritarian parents and cultures, you use any means to justify your ends. In your sick mind, you believe that you are righting the wrongs done to you and fail to see that you are just perpetuating the oppression.

@ rondolce, another smoking gun

Keith Olbermann has another smoking gun from a new book by Robert Draper that was the subject of a great rant tonight. Neither the transcript or video is available yet, but I highly recommend you check it out when it is. Here’s all that’s available so far.

As he deceived the troops at AlAsad Air Base yesterday with the tantalizing prospect that some of them might not have to risk being killed and might get to go home, Mr. Bush probably did not know that, with his own words, he had already proved that he had been lying, is lying, will be lying about Iraq.

He presumably did not know, that there had already appeared those damning excerpts from Robert Draper's book "Dead Certain." "I'm playing for October-November," Mr. Bush said to Draper. That, evidently, is the time during which, he thinks he can sell us the real plan. Which is, to quote him: "To get us in a position where the presidential candidates, will be comfortable about sustaining a presence."

Comfortable, that is, with saying about Iraq, again quoting the President, "stay longer."

And there it is, Sir. We've caught you.

Report will help surge supporters more than detractors

Without reading any of the postings, here's what I heard from I watching most of the committee hearing. Although come next spring there has to be some draw down and mission realignment because of not having the force structure to simply replace the outgoing surge troops, the Repugs and some Dems will see the report as positive, contrary to the more negative press reports. The commission members clearly believe that the Iraqi Army is making significant progress, thus the “surge is working.”

The commission strongly criticized the national police force and the Ministry of the Interior and recommended that control be decentralized, giving the provincial governments more power. They pointed out that border, infrastructure and oil pilfering security need considerably more support and priority. They believed that the Army had a secular view and the police a sectarian Shi’a one that would require a major overhaul and were not that confident that the new ministry secretary was making much of a difference over his predecessor although the firing of many police chiefs was a good sign.

The commission's recommendation on American mission realignment would shift our troops to other jobs within Iraq and that a sizable force would be required for some time. It seemed to me that considering the commission generals and admirals spent most of their time in Iraq being led around and briefed by coalition forces, that the commission was speaking on behalf of Gen. Petraeus even though they are quote an independent commission.

Surge supporters are going to use the commission report to bolster their position that we can still win in Iraq. Those of us opposing the surge and wanting us to withdraw from Iraq are not going to be helped all that much by the commission findings.
