Wow. He grew ever more agitated, I thought, as it progressed. Speaking of Shepard Smith (which no one has), I saw somewhere that he ridiculed O'Reilly on O'Reilly's show and insulted Hannity for good measure regarding what I guess are their claims to be journalists.
but don't recall the site, that highlighted Peggy Noonan's gyrations regarding when a mandate is a mandate, and when it's not. The upshot has Noonan declaring Bush's 2004 re-election as being clear evidence of a mandate, while Obama's victory is clear evidence that we live in a center-right country.
In truth, her elasticity over this matter would put Romanian gymnasts to shame, such is her nimbleness. A slippery character is Noonan and she merits the Gold Medal for both audacity and working for the WSJ's editorial page. Only the most morally flexible could do that.
Danke, as we Russians say when in Paris while on our way to Rome.
Hope you're well.
Whoa, Nellie!
And by that I mean, Whoa Nellie!
I, too, missed the lively interaction of the day. A lot of the stuff here was uber depressing (anyone know how to create an umlaut?).
I made butterscotch blondies today
I don't know what those are, but I like the sound of 'em.
no snow but it was very cold. The leaves are falling like gangbusters at this point so autumn is nearing its end. Bummer. We did have rain earlier in the week.
I love butterscotch syrup on vanilla ice cream. So the cookies sound pretty good to me.
I heard there were some sort of protests in Utah, of all places. Do you know anything about that?
I've heard "others" opine on Emanuel's appointment. What's your take on it?
You never cease to amaze me.
Thank you.
über depressing. I'll say it again! The latter part of today's thread.
Happiness abounds (except when people go at it hand to hand, then it dissipates, as if it never was).
Butt in the end (chuckle), every president needs hatchet men, so they don't have to be seen as the hatchet men themselves. Machiavelli would approve of the choice, especially at a time like this.
That's pretty much how I see it. Realpolitik and all.
I also saw an item where some group has filed suit to strip the LDS of its tax-exempt status over this issue. They, after all, directly inserted themselves into a political matter. The LDS claim, as I recall it, that their members rather than the church itself contributed to the Proposition. That's as persuasive as my saying I watch Hannity every night.
boycottutah.com.... is not yet taken. We could pool our funds and get it.
Tell me where and when.
I have no money and never travel, so my defacto boycott is stronger than steel.
If I didn't know better, I'd think you peeked into my bank account.
I have no technical skills, as such. I defer to you.
However, this part, Get the information out that there is an active boycott in place
Can't we do that at sympathetic sites (the usual suspects, HuffingtonPost, TPM, DailyKos, etc.)?
What do you think?
Do you have any idea (or do you know a lawyer) as to how to go about this? Maybe we should contact Glenn.
What do you think?
Can I laugh at this?
My sense of humor cannot be controlled.
I still think we should call Glenn about this.
judging from the overwhelming response, it looks like it's just you and me.
(still, although Glenn's a journalist now, he still seems willing to be involved, as with the ACLU, in concrete matters).
You're a trooper and I credit you for going about this in the right way, with full clarity. You genuinely have my admiration (and I say that although we haven't yet accomplished anything).
I like that (being, as I am, small-minded).
Here's my email address if you want to contact me (although I sure hope I don't get a bunch of religious creeps coming after me):
sherlock45@q.com (yes, it's a pathetic address).
it's got to be done; to protect us; we love daddy; and his crew
Nicely done.
How to make friends and influence people
Riling up anti-Mormon sentiment may be a fun tactic, but it's bad strategy.
That anti-8 video of the two white-shirted missionaries breaking into a house no doubt prompted many a snicker from people who were ALREADY decided against prop 8.
But, even putting aside any ethical questions, and just looking at what works -- attacking an entire religious denomination, fun or not, just ISN'T an effective marketing and organizing strategy for a campaign that's all about tolerance and anti-discrimination.
What might work better? Circulating stories like this (and there are lots more stories like this):

Signs in ex-BYU QB Young's yard: No on Prop. 8
The Associated Press
11/03/2008 08:00:37 AM MST
SAN FRANCISCO - Former BYU and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young and his wife, Barbara, have yard signs in front of their Palo Alto, Calif., home urging voters to vote no on Proposition 8, the state ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriage.
Barbara Young, who has an older brother who is gay, has also donated about $50,000 to defeat the measure, and says in a statement that the family does not believe in discrimination.- - Salt Lake Tribune
I wonder if there's a way (sans copyright infringement) to highlight this? It's sympathetic, after all.
Overall, it is a good choice despite all the despair that has been voiced on this thread.
I agree that it's simply too early too tell what's going to happen. I have much optimism, until such point it's slowly erased. We'll see.
that's "sysprogian" in that it's invalulable.
Thanks.
I received a "page not found."
Any updates that you know of?
@ Vox Vocis res Publica. Are you the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson?
Haven't yet checked this blog but that's one impressive recommendation.
