Elephantman

The bogus allegation of "Bush crimes" are policy disputes. Nothing more and nothing less.

Here's the thing. You're not a stupid fellow. You know those "allegations" aren't bogus. You're among friends here. Time for honesty (and you know it).

Lynx

When he was under oath he prevaricated, but never lied.

That's how I see it, too.

Mike Sulzer & PDA

Mike, do I need to say that I laughed (probably not)?

PDA, well, I laughed at that too (but only because I imagined Beagle wearing a top hat).

Is that haiku?

Wait, no.

I mean Hi Koo.

Or is it Hi-C? The Happy Beagle wants to know.

I think he's a guy who'd like a punch.

In Truth

it's a miserable state of affairs. As Brian P just noted, It(s) a puritanical kind of barbarism.

I await the time of our awakening (or something along those mystical lines).

Thursday, November 6, 2008 11:34 AM

Wha?

Where did Glenn Greenwald's article on DOMA go? Did you decide not to burden Saint Obama with Teh Geys, ala Clinton 1993? Geez, not even in office and the Dems and the press are already in a gay panic.

Not sure what this is about. Then again, I don't care.

The Prodigal

returns (which is how my Mom thought of me) to find so many things/people to comment on that he/I don't know where to start. Okay, I'll just choose Woebegone:

You, like many self-annointed progressives, have never understood the gravity of the injury Bill Clinton wrought upon the presidency and the nation. Character is the most important attribute in a president. Honor is essential in democratic politics which, ultimately, depends upon the common decency and integrity of its office-holders.

OMG! The honor! It burns in the face of, what?, sex? You can't be serious, although I fear you are.

Bush and Rove took Clinton's craven scorched-earth tactics and applied them to policy matters. While assuredly doing far more damage in the physical world, Bush believed he was doing right by the country and that was all that mattered.

That's a nearly criminal statement. "Policy matters" sounds an awful lot like Elaphantman and that's no kind thing to say. But I'm glad you acknowledge "far more damage in the physical world." Next time you might want to mention the dead people.

On a Lighter Note

catamitebastard, "And guess what this button does, young lady..."

Who told you my fantasy?

Best News I've Had Today

That is all I have to say .... Woebegone

Arne

"Pardon me, but I and this gun in my hand are of the considered opinion that yon money in your drawer is more appropriately placed in my bag over here."

Even as we speak, George is writing this down as part of his defense statement (in a perfect world, that is).

"Fox News Anchor and Unsuspecting Intellectual"

I like this one best. Megyn Kelly really pisses me off but, still, she's kinda...you know.

Looks like you make the list with me and Manson

I'm the first to acknowledge those with a sense of humor.

Quite funny and appreciated.

Great. That leaves me with Dave Asman.

I always laugh at the way that guy slurs the s to make it sound like a z. Imagine the ass-kickings he had to endure back in the day. Well, even now, I guess, considering he works for Fox.

On a More Serious Note

I've noticed how with "values voters" the values are always about sex. Lying, cheating, stealing, corruption, and wars of aggression just aren't values to them unless they are about sex.

I think this is why my mind is in a perpetual state of bogglement (and I'm assuming that's a word).

catamitebastard

I think we conjugate that "boggleizedness"

You're right. As my grammar teacher told me later, "idiot! How many times do we have to go over this?!" As I recall, she looked something like Megyn Kelly, which would explain why I wasn't paying attention.

ethics_professor

you probably won't forgive me for this but I read liberal throngs as thongs.

I know, I know, but in my defense my mind has been elsewhere (and I'm blaming it on catamitebastard).

catamitebastard

I try to be good. I do.

To paraphrase (here it goes) Tombstone, "you remind me of ... me!"

You are a gracious and noble woman and I thank your for your patience with me and catamitebastard (whom I still hold responsible).

Seth Owen

While Clinton's transgressions were not comparable to those of Bush, the fact that he wasn't held accountable by his own side for his violation of trust helped create the our-side-at-any-cost mentality that the Bush people exploited to do much worse.

The our-side-at-any-cost was alive and well long before Clinton showed up. I find your implicit defense of Bush to be startling. Bush and company chose to behave as they've done and not once, I'm confident, did the deciders among them breathe a sigh of relief at the thought of having Clinton's "precedent" as a sort of amulet of protection.

I can't conceive of a White House conversation where someone said, "you know, let's start spying on Americans. Later, we'll torture and rendition people. Oh, and start wars. I think we can justify the whole enchilada because Clinton was never held accountable by his own side for his violation of trust."

Yes, that pause. It clearly is worse than the nightmare of the past eight years.

I congratulate you on your sense of balance.

Just don't fall off the Earth's edge when you get there.

By the way, are you familiar with Glenn's list? It's the one with Manson's name on it.

Iokannan in the Well

Freed them from what? Each other? Their history? Their stability?

I assumed he meant their lives. What greater gift could George Bush grant than that?

What a miserable fellow (the both of them).

Derbig

haven't viewed that Nader clip yet but I wanted to acknowledge this: The best part is the FOX interviewer doing yeoman political-suicide prevention work on Nader.

Good line.
