Obama's campaign and supporter's have spent this entire campaign telling people that if they don't vote for him it MUST be because of deep racial resentment. After all - how could anybody not love Obama if they're not racist? But that's race-baiting, and it's wrong. It's wrong to use race to win an election, whether you are campaigning for "the black candidate" or against him.

I appreciate this point, I really do (although I dispute "Obama's campaign ... [has] spent this entire campaign telling people that if they don't vote for him it MUST be because of deep racial resentment"--the "supporters" part I can't really comment on). And for those who would hide behind the "how could anybody not love Obama if they're not racist?" is simply not persuasive.

You might respond, or not, but I think your position regarding Obama and race is simply dishonest.

Hey, I hope you aren't including me in that slur.

Better Angels

But I'm not here to kick sand in the face of the Fox News Channel.

Why not? I am.

As for Rove, he noted that Obama "appealed to the better angels of our nature." I swear, despite the quote having come from Lincoln, I still take credit for having revived it lo these many years later.

Wimp

is all I can say (that's polite, that is):

What won this election was the packaging skills of David Axelrod, the swooning complicity of the media, the ruthless opportunism of Barack Obama, and the unprincipled thuggishness of his supporters.

Oh, my!

Okay, let me be less polite: this guy's a pussy and a bitch.

There, now while I'll never have a career at Salon.com, I'll at least have the satisfaction of knowing that I called it as it is.

Utterly brilliant, you are. And I say that "seriously."

OT Good and Bad

First, the good: Bill Sali lost (and, oh, how I wished he was my rep., I so wanted to participate in the voting out of same);

The bad: here's the lede from the Idaho Statesman: Yes, it was a great night for Democrats on the national stage. But in Idaho, Republicans continued their dominance. In the state legislature, Republicans are holding large majorities -- with an expected 52-18 edge in the House and 28-7 advantage in the Senate.

Not a surprise, naturlich, but still disappointing. John the Baptist and his voice in the wilderness had nothing on a lefty living in Idaho.

The good news: The ass-fuckers lost every time they came up to bat, in Florida, Arizona and California.

Very graceful of you. I'm glad that you've retained your sense of decency in these troublesome times.

HornetDriver re: Umbrage

When a nation goes to war, the order comes from the commander in chief and congress. The person's specific CO may give the orders implementing the larger order, but ultimate authority rests in the president.

Gee, you military guys really make me horny. Hope I didn't offend you or anything.

While Driving Today

I listened to Hannity on the local talk-radio station (and, since I live in Idaho, either he, O'Reilly or Limbaugh are always on). You'll be happy to know he's quite unhappy. Fulminating, I think is the word. It was fun.

Oh, Noblenozzler

We can only hope for the best in the bleak days ahead.

I'm glad you showed up. Timothy3 was exhausted but your nozzling presence has perked me right up.

"I hate Obama so all the Jews should commit suicide."

Concise, pithy and, most importantly, you've said what nasality feared to utter (as a supporter of Israel, that is).

I Just Got Back

to find the perplexingly named ? ≠ ! posting here. In truth, the posts are as confused, meaningless and generally inane as the poster's handle.

But I did like this from ethics_professor: Feel free not to respond. Since I don't speak your language, I certainly won't be reading or responding to anything you post from here on out.

Dynamite (and I mean that in a non-military, 99% of the officer corps, kinda way).

Rabblerousing NasalBlower

The only silver lining in having a daily diet of this kind of dreck on nightly news is that it will surely awaken the vast majority of decent Americans to the terrible mistake made in their name yesterday and spur them to urgent efforts to repair this grievous error.

Let me introduce you to adnoto.

They must have. It was, after all, extreme.

Triumph of the Will?

Really?

Here on planet Earth we usually talk about reality (or try to) but you aren't helping.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 06:40 PM

Huh

The first order of business must be to stop the need for Black Walls Reflecting. No more granite panels with tiny names, each a glyph pouring forth a life history and a sea of loss and grief.

Amen to that (and beautifully put).

NozzleNibbler

He is supposed to supply the balance in "fair and balanced". Which means he is completely unbalanced, being totally in the tank for Obama. So the comparison is not inapt.

Because Juan Williams is African-American, I think you mean?

He's "in the tank for Obama" like I'm a retired military guy. Not.

I know you're responding to Pedinska with

Can we say affirmative action (to use the polite pc term for it)?

but I want to say, boy, racism is alive and well in some parts of the country (your part). Coward.

By The Way

Pedinska, I think he is a NippleBuffer. And that's as painful to write as it is to, well, imagine.

Cocktailhag

Far from "eyes glistening," what I saw was her seeming, in a way unlike her usual Spock-like robotic lying, somewhat giddy, and unusually human.

I saw that too. I think she, for that moment, remembered what it was to be human. Then, I imagine, she set that aside and returned to the official "who do we kill next?" policy.
