The testing is in

You can kill yourself with too much Zantac or Claritin both of which were regulated drugs at some point. They are now OTC. With oral birth control the data points for 50 years have been compiled about safe and unsafe use and it's not going to get any safer now. The data indicates changing some of those products to OTC. That's just reality. Women should be willing to do their part in this new world of unaffordable health care and limits on access.

What with the midwest flooded

And corn prices poised to skyrocket, I'm almost positive that cord ethanol is going to look more and more like a bad idea.

Vidal on McVeigh

Was simply being inflammatory and contrary for the sake being thus. Like people who say "but what about all the good things Pol Pot did?" (like Noam Chomsky)

Going back to the point of uninvention rarely if ever works

It does result in cults, genocides and assorted atrocities though. So there's the entertainment value.

Why stop at baseball

When you can Jackie Robinsonify everything in the whole godamn world. Retire #42 from THE WORLD. From the system of numbers as we understand it.

I actually don't know how this is priced

Are there generics? If yes then they are 10% the cost of name brands. If that's not cheap enough then not only should you do away with prescriptions but you should simply give them away for the asking. Print up a damn pamphlet written at the third grade level of all appropriate languages and be done with it. Just because the patient sees a doctor doesn't mean the patient is going to pay attention to any of the contraindications anyhow. If you're still going to smoke, be 70 lbs overweight and take The Pill then you're going to stroke out, doctor or no doctor.

"As much as" $50/month?

Sorry ladies but that doesn't actually seem like a great deal of money for college students. $1.65/tab/day is about half the cost of Lipitor. Ok so it's $1.30/day more than the lowest rock bottom generic SSRI but still, less than the price of one tall regular coffee at Starbucks. And these appear to be the highest of the high end estimates on the cost. Seems like you have to separate the college coeds from the women who literally don't have a pot to piss in or a window to toss it out of. And if you are homeless, living on the street, begging for change, maybe you need something more permanent.

Maybe you should lobby your college for cheaper books. Or maybe there's some where else to cut. It IS about priorities isn't it? I have 2 in college and a third next year. So please don't preach to me what things cost. And going 2-3000 into debt each year is nothing. If you wanted it to be debt free you should have considered state university. I did. My kids are 3rd generation public university. Sorry but those are choices people should and should be expected to make. I'm already paying a subsidy for student health care & I would prefer not to add to that.

Meanwhile Bob Edwards on NPR

Seems to have abandoned the concept that ANY story isn't tangentially related to being black in America.

Actually Congress is spending a great deal of time on

NFL spygate and steroids for racehorses. So it's not like they're not doing incredibly valuable and important work.

So Ms. Kaplan

If you were hoping to inject a subtle intimidation towards anyone who dares criticizes Obama's Hapshetsut you may have failed. Yes, we know she's black. Thank you.

So Stern will pull a new rule out of his ass

NBA players MUST play 2 years college ball in the USA or territories or some such nonsense. Look, the NBA isn't completely rigged but it's not 100% legit either. It's a business and David Stern, the mouthpiece for the owners and chief television negotiator/frontman is going to do what it takes to ensure a monopoly on young healthy players who have no other options to play. Anyway, college coaches have started to note that players who are looking to bail early might as well since they're not team players. In fact good college teams really stopped being teams a few years ago. Everyone is auditioning for a spot in the NBA draft and winning college games and team dynamics don't pay for Bentleys.

We are 5 years, tops from merging the NBA with an And-1 circus and having 'celebrity' refs anyhow.

Original article: The swing states of 2008

By the way

What is the definition of a swing state? Because everyone knows that if the election is decided by less than 3% which is damned likely, it's going to wind up in Federal courts across the land, ultimately in the Supreme Court. And Roberts, Scalia, Alito and Thomas just need one 'swing' vote there, to elect McCain. I don't even know why we bother holding elections anymore.

Original article: The war on teen terror

It's been my experience that child soldiers generally do not get captured

They usually get killed. They are particularly useful as terror weapons and suicide weapons. So a child soldier who gets captured probably was not of sufficient fervor and zealotry in the first place.
