I'm glad he's self employed

He would be eaten alive in my firm. He would last 3-4 weeks tops.

so bus ridership is up 14% where I live

And of course the city is raising taxes to expand the bus routes. Which are 2-3 years or more from actually expanding. In the meantime I'll be paying double - more for gas, higher taxes for buses that won't show up till 2010-11 the earliest.

Original article: Sick in the head

I spent 6 hrs in the ER today

Blood tests, neg (sort of)

Urine, neg

Sonogram, neg

Non contrast CT, neg

Not your lower GI, appendix, gallbladder

We don't know why there's blood in your urine, and we guess that crippling pain and swelling you experience is for no earthly reason we can understand or explain. So go home and take Motrin.

I saw a Soup Nazi franchise yesterday

It's called something else, but by the logo you can clearly tell what it is. Apart from the fact that when the fad comes to Raleigh, you know it's dead, it's clear that people take a thrill in being abused or seeing others abused. Of course in this sanitized bike helmet wearing every day is MLK day world we live in, no one's actually going to be shouted at and thrown out. But one can hope.

The funniest part of "Flipping Out" though is the jump the shark aspect of it. The Real Estate Boom to Infinity is over. I hope they run the show out to the point where Jeff Lewis goes bankrupt and has to decide what to wear on his daily blowjobs for OCD medication trips downtown.

I have a magic wand

One wave and everyone instantly becomes a multicultural multiethnic San Francisco resident who doesn't own a car, is a Vegan, associates only with married gay couples and illegal aliens, doesn't own a tv and has a free solar powered assembly on the roof of the Urban Food Commune to sip free non animal cruelty power from Mother Sun.

Because any other option is heresy.

It's about defensive medicine I think

It's not about running up the bill so much as being able to say "we looked at everything we could think of". And no it's not bladder cancer or prostate cancer. That's not where the pain is localized. Best guess is that it WAS a stone that passed already. The thing is this: Instead of dicking around and sparing me a CT because of the radiation, they should just do it and short circuit the guessing.

I'll vote Obama

But only if OJ Simpson is on the ticket too.

How's that flooded midwest where corn used to be, working out for you?

Now if the levees burst we have to freeze in the dark too. Good plan.

Seriously though, if you can't mandate CAFE standards, and it seems no one will, then perhaps they should mandate weight. If our vehicles weighed 10% less it would save more than all the hybrids Toyota could build.

No one cares, it's a moot point either way

More than half of all voters will fail to levitate their fat lazy asses off the couch TO vote. As Doug Stanhope says "You don't vote, you got shit to do. So you leave it to old people with breathing problems."

More than anything else

Vidal is a critic of middle brow tastes and thinking, much the way Updike was a critic of middle class mores. But as such he's a proud intellectual elitist and his satire often has a blind spot and is utterly un self aware. Compared to Jacques Barzun he feels one dimensional.

Civil rights are about human rights

No not really they're not. They're about equating or balancing certain legal proscriptions. No one talked about "white rights" after the civil war. No one was attempting to see if a rising tide floats all boats. Otherwise Indians and Jews would have also been allowed to vote.

From The Third Man

Another OW gem:

Harry Lime: Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.

Original article: George Carlin dies at 71

His last several specials were unwatchable

He bailed on his own Vegas gig because it morphed into an old guy screaming at his audience about how much he hated them. Which is fine, really, but don't charge me $100 bucks to watch you do it, fuckhead.

I was reading how wind farms screw up radar

Air traffic control radars will have to be replaced with the growth of wind farms. Of course we could just ban air travel outright and kill two birds with one stone.

Will he get a state funeral like Tim Russert?

Who I think is up to 8 or 9 days of ceremonies at this point.

so does that mean that not a single female politician

Can ever have an opinion vis a vis the war given they were almost certainly never subject to any military service?

Changing change for change

In a changing world we change change for change.

Monday, June 23, 2008 11:09 AM

Really? Forget?

So in two years we'll have an up and running solar powered fully metered delivery infrastructure for electric capacity nationwide?

Monday, June 23, 2008 11:13 AM

It will be interesting to see

The South West's fight for its majority interest in solar power given the raw # of days per year of sunshine, vs. say, the Great Lakes Region. I'm sure Salon will scream and complain about those horrible Republicrats who evilly control that market too. Of course they will, and they will charge most of you more what you pay now. That means that everyone else will cling desperately to cheap coal fueled electricity while the South West provides for itself and it's clean clear skies.

Original article: Peak safety matches?

Recycle dead bodies

They're going around the karmic wheel anyhow.

Monday, June 23, 2008 12:27 PM

I'm sure it will all work out ok

After Obama picks an ideologically compliant VP - unelectable and either unknown or hated of course. But with pure radical cred. Then the whole shebang goes down in flames and Salon and DailyKOS spend the next 4 years screaming more pointless loser shit.

Monday, June 23, 2008 12:32 PM

I'm sorry but do Salon readers still assume clubs don't allow blacks in?

You might want to check the law on that one.

And just push them OTC.

Too bad her tits aren't brains

Because you have to be some kind of moron to climb alone. Take a flare gun next time, honey.
