relax everybody...

I think everyone here is trying to earn a grade of 'A' in their women's studies course. Please, get a grip. Don't let your kids watch tv? They don't care. They only deal on the Internet anyway. I discovered my own child's youtube video postings that he recorded at an iStore. I was also able to see all of his friends stuff, very funny and silly and innocent but man do they communicate in a different way than you could ever imagine (hundreds of postings between a group of friends from their school). My middle school son bought some Axe (as did all his friends), they wore it to a dance and it was all very silly. The girls wore terrible make up and bright strange cloths the girls had big ass hair and tons of perfume and make-up (eye shadow that was way over the top and very colorful) and it was all very funny. They were having fun and a couple of them probably experioenced their very first kiss (I don't know for sure but I don't think they were having big group orgy).

Good luck all, they are very much like we were as kids. Except of course.... in my day, we had drakkar, and the girls had liz clayborne (that triangle thing), and a billy idol song called mony mony and we would sing the alternate lyrics as loud as we could; and yet it was still nothing like our parents thought it must have been like... but man did we frighten the living shit out of them. good times...

Juliebird.. you're on the right track....

... 20 years from now, when you're daughter is all grown up, I hope you'll get a kick out of hearing her description of reality. It will be so very different from what you thought. Precisely because she is as smart as you describe, she'll manage your reality more than you will hers.

speaking of fantastic finishes....

....how about Raikkonen’s f1 championship! Sure, Hamilton may have choked, but the betting markets correctly gave up on Lewis in the last few races. Raikkonen apparently justified himself as being the highest paid individual in sports this year.

Legal sage Cass Sunstein ...

... has retired from even trying. Lame.

here's the deal...

you married a classic slacker... not that there is anything wrong with that. It is fine. The problem is he has not accepted the fact that he is a slacker. He is a closeted slacker. And there are a lot of dynamics here that hurt his ability to come out of the closet and accept being a slacker. Can his wife handle the fact she married a slacker? That is probably the biggest question. Can he admit to his wife that he enjoys being a slacker? If LW can handle it then she should gently encourage him and support him (and by support him I mean make him feel okay about the financial support and appreciate he made dinner by ordering out on her dime). I hope that does not sound cynical because I simply think it is true. He may be a great guy who feels like a loser, but in reality just has not been able to accept who he is because of the gender roles expected by society She is the bread winner and I'd bet the rural farm that she keeps most things in order with regard to family and finance (vacation and meal planning etc.). It's all good if both parties can accecpt the roles they play. If they can't... forget it, it's over.

she's legit...

... no question about it. You can't fake or contrive her reality. Absolutely real. She may or may not kill herself, but that isn't the issue. Musically, she has it.

The Troubled Life of Amy Winehouse

Friends and family have been in the news recently urging British pop singer Amy Winehouse to quit using drugs, saying that she has a problem. What have the warning signs been?

* Follow-up single to "Rehab" was "Big Fat Lid of Black Tar Heroin"

* Beehive hairdo occasionally drops baggies, spoons, poppy plantations

* Always in good mood or bad mood

* Keith Richards seen leaving her flat looking defeated

* Constantly screams "God, I love taking drugs!"

* Before a show at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, Winehouse refused to go on until the stage had been cleared of all the four-headed snakes and ghosts of her ancestors

* Her music thus far is pretty cool

to thatguy,youknowtheone

I didn't intend to present the infographic as my own; but it is funny as hell and the The Onion is simply the best. There was recently a neat article in Reason playing up the Onion (the tie in here is I received Reason when I renewed my Salon subscription).

I love your name by the way. If it derives from the jewerly commericial radio spot I have been hearing recently that is very clever (I am definately not "that guy"). I love that radio spot.

it must suck...

... to be a second class partner in your own family. I wish I was a chosen one. But alas, I'm no more chosen than the author. The one thing I do have going for my deist ass is my lighted tree, the wrapped presents, a visit from santa, and a sliced holiday ham dinner.

I must admit...

... I love that Google is making Apple look like Microsoft. Granted, my motivation is purely personal and built on the foundation of enjoying seeing the hipsters who defend Apple against the evil empire of Microsoft eat crow as Apple behaves just like MS (my own history being my grad school socialist days and die hard Apple defender dyas - good stoner times; followed by building a career using MS software and developing a deep respect for how MS applications changed the world).

and of course there was that fantastic...

... formula one season. I know we don't do racing here but it was pretty amazing considering Kimi's win and the 100 million dollar fine.
