A few unsophisticated thinkers have responded to my query on why legal intelligence didn't prevent 9/11 by saying pres. bush had gotten a daily briefing headlined Obama Determined to Strike U.S. Did that briefing give the manner of striking? Legal intel most certainly did not, including the FBI refusal to examine a terror suspect's laptop because years earlier a Clinton deputy AG (jamie Gorelik) got a case of the vapors at the thought of intel possibly falling into the hands of....LAW ENFORCEMENT! When the issue reached the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review (first published opinion) the court ruled the "wall" was entirely legally unnecessary and nonexistent under the statutes. But I've already gone on too long with the facts....back to Bush bashing. Incidentally, Obama owns the Afghanistan war, to use the familiar expression. Do something about that, you Bush haters.
yeah, that was a typo....I like to think I'm wittier than the folks who purposely conflate those names. The former newscaster Dan Rather did it (you can find it on twitter). I think the late Ted kennedy did it also. for the record: i don't think Obama is like osama.
This round-up of various views of the speech was handy, especially those who gave "advice"; those who predicted what would eventually come to pass, e.g., Andrew Sullivan, are useless. If they're such good prognosticators, why aren't they rich?
Anyway, I ask wherefore the left's fascination with Palin. If she was ignored by liberals, she'd be confined to the right wing echo chamber. Could it possibly be that Palin is a crutch to those who see Obama as wobbly, a big fat disappointment?
some smug comments for the little guy (illegal immigrant), but counterfactual:
1) the emergency for the illegal or his kid is bogus example....federal law guarantees free emergency care to all, and I haven't heard that would be repealed by any health plan bill
2) illegals would pay into system, so there's more $ for all....omits inconvenient fact that illegals, if covered, would be eligible for subsidies
Have a nice, factual day, and tell your friends you -- yes you -- are willing to pay more and get less if it will hlep illegals.
When did 70,000 come to D.C. to demonstrate for health care reform? I see on the web the smugness of "progressives", who don't seem to think these protestors will amount to anything significant. I'm not so sure....
Joan's "evidence" of racism is her supposition that this wouldn't happen to a white president pushing Obama's program. No, they merely impeached Bill Clinton after defeating his health program without even a congressional hearing. What a load of PC crap. My friend predicted early in 2008 that you wouldn't be able to criticize a president Obama w/o being called "racist".
Adnoto says, re getting this country on the right path:
That proposal is a concerted, unrelenting direct action/civil disobedience campaign. It is the difficult option but it is also the only realistic option at this point.
YEP, folks will get out there for "direct action" and civil disobedience. Thanks for the laugh. The only people I saw getting out there were this past Saturday in D.C., and they were described by the libs as nutcases (at best).
Our democracy provides for a solution to the president's perfidiousness on civil liberties: vote him out in 2012.
Thank you and good night and good luck to you all, suckers!
The main point is that I and I wager most readers of this site was blindsided by the number of people visible on TV, had no idea this was coming, and are wondering whether this is going to metastasize. In short, we're outsiders to this movement -- if it is a movement -- and it looked a lot bigger than D.C. marches from the other end of the political spectrum. Add to this the tone of right wing radio/TV in the last month, which has gone from almost reasonably arguable economic opposition to the Dems to themes of treason and worse in High Places, and the point is to be afraid, very afraid, for the safety of the president. On TV it looked like a lot of people, that's the point, and legitimacy was thereby given to the nudnik signs being carried.
Right wing people's movements are Astroturf, left wing same are grass roots. Right wing suffers from false consciousness, as do happy women. Mao Tse Tung a great leader, although killed more than A.H. No knowledgeable person could be conservative.
.....until I read this review. If the soppy reviewer liked it, I have my doubts. Also, reviewer does not point to a single original scene or occurrence.
Libs and conservatives alike go to see sympatico political films to congratulate themselves on their wisdom and morality. I hate propaganda films and when I used to go to theaters hated the audiences more. Still recall a standing O at the end of Z. These Upper East Side libs (that's an upscale neighborhood, for those of you unfamiliar with Manhattan) were so proud of themselves.
