So they can't cite Paine

The most Glenn shows here is that those opposed to AG Holder's decision cannot cite Paine. Glenn does not prove Paine's quoted conclusions, sayings, really, are true. They might be, but then again: the U.S. committed much brutality during WWII. Did that lead to brutalization of the country? Sorry to cite WWII -- maybe we should've lost that too for A-bombing the Japs.

What the teenagers will assume

Teenagers have a pretty good view of how the criminal justice system works. They won't think they'd get off necessarily, only celebrities and sports heros. In short, they'll know the truth.

Liberal "humor"

Look, I'm basically a liberal, I vote Democratic, but please, please, liberal humor sucks. Political humor is written by conservatives. Liberals don't know how to satirize politics, they're too earnest, which is a nice quality, but it prevents having a political sense of humor.

Anybody can eat out on distrusting Bush -- What about Obama's Afghanistan escalation?

(subject heading says it all to tough guy liberals who are giving Obama's Viet Nam a pass)

I had the same experience

A lawyer I knew quite his profession to write novels. He sent me some stuff; it was between bad and awful. I told him it wasn't good. He asked and i gave him what he wanted: my opinion. The morality was being honest with him (not being true to myself). Practically speaking, if I had lied I would've had to read more of his dreck.

Heather knows nothing about people and life

Heather can't understand why a woman in a good marriage would be having an affair. The only conclusion to draw about Heather is she is ignorant of actual people, who do not act according to formulas, sayings, kitchen wisdom and the like. Nurse Jackie is compelling to the extent people act non-rationally, in other words, like people, not TV characters. Heather, are you married? Didn't think so.

@svutlov

Sir, you saved me the trouble of posting with your well put ode to the cunt. I was going to say that the word has power as erotic talk during sex, but you beat me to it, talk the 'cunt' out of my mouth, as it were.

@James Levy

James, what you write about Obama is spot on, but it is clear to me that Bill Clinton was a far better politician/president in terms of his communication with the population. This skill might have translated to congressional action under current conditions. No contest between professorial Obama and "I feel your pain" Bill Clinton. Unfortunately Hillary wasn't possessed of husband's speaking/empathy skills; she came across more as a stern school teacher. That may be sexist but it's accurate, and I didn't make this world. I and many others pegged Obama as an egghead in the Adlai Stevenson mold -- despite Obama's near-invisible "community organizing" skills. Too bad about Bill Clinton being ineligible to run in 2008 -- or would his wife have vetoed that?

Conason wrong on why Obama was elected

Implicit in Joe's piece is that the country elected Obama to change things in a big way. Actually, insofar as i can tell, and I try to follow people's moods, not pundits' chess games, there was broad and deep dissatisfaction with Bush, so it was 'time for a change'. Progressives thought that meant a huge change, but i saw no evidence of desire for that in the country at large, just a desire to run from Bushism. As for Obama himself, he doesn't have the strength of an FDR or a Ronald Reagan or an Andrews Jackson, et al. He's just a very very bright guy with a tremendous amount of self-regard and self-motivation. It was Barack Obama himself who famously said in an interview that he is a Rosarch blot for people, they see in him what they want to see. As does Joe Conason.

Cat fight!

Another dust up over nothing, but I sympathize with people who write to earn a living -- it's honorable to spew b.s. to put food on the table. How people can get upset over how women dress when people are slaughtered and starving by the thousands in Africa is beyond me, but then again, some people love to spend their time playing checkers. Let's hear it for the feminist elite: the writers!

Glenn Greenwald, a former lawyer, takes pleading allegations as facts

Trial? no. We don't need no stinkin' trial if it's a suit against a Bush administration official. If some yokel from anywhere claims this is what happened, to Glenn it happened, let's move on to sentence (or fixing of damages in this civil case). It's the American way!

Jebbie wrong, Ninth Circuit found no facts

Jebbie, you are wrong. Let's agree on an escrow agent to hold our $1,000 bet that the Ninth Circuit isjust accepting the pleading allegations as true for the sake of argument as to whether the case can proceed to discovery and trial. Also, maybe Glenn could pronounce on who is correct here.

Sunday, September 6, 2009 09:24 AM

Jebbie wrong again

Re-read Glenn's piece....he describes what plaintiff alleges as facts...he says the guy was arrested, held in bad conditions, etc. None of this has been proven at a trial. Nowhere does Glen say it's a claim only. Re=read and then apologize.

Too late, Joan.

O has been out there too much, he's become tiresome. I know he's not supposed to be entertainer-in-chief; I'm talking about a prez losing effectiveness with his audience by overdoing appearances. Labor Day seemed a bit contrived, shirtsleeves, emotional voice and the like. Well, if that stuff works, call me pisher (Joan, ask one of your friends).

So how come legal surveillance didn't prevent 9/11?

Just asking.
