Was there ever an "Operation Valkyrie" during the last 8 years?

I just saw the movie "Valkyrie", the true story chronicling a coup attempt by German soldiers against Hitler for his war crimes committed in the German people's name and because their country (and Europe) was being destroyed.

At the end of the movie, there was a message on the screen that stated that Valkyrie was just one of 15 coup attempts by the German people against Hitler and his policies.

I thought I had received a good education in the public schools and in college and grad school, but this is the FIRST time I have heard of these coup attempts and I am 57!

Why is this not an equal part of WWII's history along with the military campaigns and the Holocaust?

How many coups did Americans (generals, soldiers, federal workers)attempt to overthrow Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Gonzalez? Any? General Shinseiki spoke aloud and was demoted. Many people signed petitions and marched. Did anyone try to stop this administration in a coup?

I know about a few current whistleblowers, who have had short bursts of media attention and who then go on, to a lonely, often bankrupt and wrecked life, fighting their own government's legal teams.

What if our public or private educators/textbook writers/curriculum developers gave a shout out to the Germans portrayed in Valkyrie, as they have with Rosa Parks and Schindler and Lech Wallesa and John Adams/Thomas Jefferson/Susan B. Anthony, most of whom are recognized names?

Their efforts were patriotic and honorable, too, and most all gave their lives.

Would more of us speak up or out because we know, and we have learned, that it is the right thing to do? Under fear of rendition and torture and being called unpatriotic, some may have already. I want to know about them and support them.

Perhaps the last 8 years could have been halted earlier without waiting for people to get it or for a vote (too often fraught with uncounted votes and cheating).

Now, we MUST follow the US law and the international law: Prosecute the guilty. Keep the real truth alive, for history and for our human being-ness.

Keep writing it Glen!

Voice your support for prosecutions! Don't let David Brooks et al minimize the process. Don't let Obama off the hook. Tell it so you are not ignored and irrelevant for the next 4 years.

Thanks, Che Pasa...

I forgot about the anthrax sent to the Dems and the NYT...

The Supremes certainly lost any credibility as a check and balance in 2000. Too bad progressives and others who worked for Gore were naively trying to "play by the rules" in the Jeb("little brother") almost Eff'd-up fix. The Bush Bully squad descending on the BOE offices in Florida probably brought back bad memories to the Gore team of 3rd-grade playground fights... the same way of dealing was the MO of Bush/Cheney for the last 8 years. Most of the adults reverted to their childish and unevolved 3rd-grade selves: They caved and ran! Bluster and Blow has worked well for Bush and Cheney their whole lives.

But, with the threat of prosecutions at any future time (remember the elderly Pinochet?), from any country who signed the treaty, should require heavy alcohol use to quell the quaking of these cowards. Really, they should stay outta sight. 'Cuz people are pissed~REALLY pissed!

David Gregory surely knows that Helen Thomas

is a very good journalist. What did he do when she was ignored, dismissed and treated as though her questions smelled (Perino's nose scrunched-up)? And made to move from her front row seat (earned from over 50 years of probing questions)as if she was a naughty child!

I like Rachel Maddow's style of inquiry. Though tamer on MSNBC than her radio show, she still sharpens the questions more than any other TV journo.

Gregory needs to review Colbert's razor speech at that dinner and the recent Reporrrr interview. He has missed the point. Twice.

The best definition of a cynic

for me:

A cynic is a broken-hearted romantic...

(I'm sorry, I do not know who coined this.)

The other thing about cynics: they keep coming back to the fray because they are hopeful they will have been proven wrong. Otherwise, why am I still a Democrat?

Original article: Kirsten Gillibrand. Really?

Why is Alphonse D'Amato standing next to her?

Her father is a well-connected Republican. So maybe winning in a "Republican stronghold" isn't such a big deal.

Yes she does support the 2nd amendment. What she doesn't support is the sharing of gun registration info across state lines so that the history of guns used in crimes can be traced, possibly finding and/or prosecuting criminals. Huh?

Is she planning on switching parties in 2010? Does she know Karl Rove? Just askin'.

As a New Yorker, from the REAL upstate (which is from Central NY's Syracuse going west, through the Finger Lakes to Geneseo and then southish to Chatauqua and back east to Ithaca), I'll wait and see.

"She will grow into the job"...So would've Caroline Kennedy. And what about Thomas Suozzi or Rep. Carolyn Maloney or even Fran Drescher?

Governor Paterson took way too long to name HRC's successor. That has cost him, and his appointment, gravitas. But hey, it's Friday.

Original article: Does my butt look fat?

I am always taken aback when someone in my family, or an acquaintance or even a complete stranger, tells me:

"You're fat. Lose weight." Wow, talk about a personal boundary-buster! I just would never say that, or anything like that, to anyone!
