What about Edwards
[Read the article: Time columnist: Gore-Obama in '08?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Somebody posted earlier the idea that maybe John Edwards would be brought forward at the convention -- that would make a lot more sense than recycling Al Gore, who has moved beyond politics.
John Edwards at least has been out on the campaign trail this year and WANTS to run for President.
Who knows what's going on behind the scenes? But there were a number of outstanding candidates in the original Democratic field -- Biden, Dodd, Richardson, Edwards ... We don't need to go back to the past to find a compromise nominee.

OK, so now
[Read the article: Polls: Obama weathers Wright controversy ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can we get back to things that are actually important?
Issues that matter?
Democrats uniting to lead the country?

Another factor
[Read the article: Obama picks up new superdelegate support]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Another factor might have been the poll that showed Obama with a 10-point lead over HRC nationally and the one that indicated Obama still slightly ahead of McCain with HRC slightly behind. Although I think these polls are meaningless as predictors of the final outcome, they probably have some influence on the present-moment thinking of superdelegates as far as "electability".
Hillary's "I'm the only one who is electable" argument is losing steam the longer the campaign goes on -- and Rush Limbaugh's activities have cast some doubt among Democrats on the actual meaning of even the votes she is getting.
A friend of mine from a primary state that voted on Super Tuesday, who is a Republican, told me that a lot of his friends voted for Hillary just because the Republicans are all salivating to run against her and "really put the final smackdown on the hated Clintons."

Truly bad
[Read the article: McCain camp debuts new Web ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is a truly bad and strange ad. What's with the smoke? Strange little pictures. Nice to hear about his ancestors' family values, but isn't he the guy who had an affair with his current wife before he left his marriage to marry the younger woman? If I were McCain, I'd stay away from the whole "family values" message... The Clinton's come out ahead of him on that one -- and the Obama's come out way ahead.
And just how is it that a politician can run on his family's reputation? George Bush may be the last one for a long time who pulled that one off -- I think we're onto it now.

One question
[Read the article: McCain Girl responds]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What is it about McCain that appeals to this woman?

@Notorious W.E.S.
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If glorifying rappers gets on your last nerve, then this must be one of the few Salon postings you actually enjoyed, since it clearly shows "Fiddy", in his own words, to be something far less than glorious. Kind of stupid, actually.

Smart like a FOX
[Read the article: Fox News' influence on the Democratic race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fox knows that the Republicans' power is waning and they'll soon be covering a Democratic administration. They can't be counting on the VP as a frequent guest and special treatment from the president any more.
So, they're just sucking up. Changing with the times. Going with the flow. Trying to make sure they have some contact with news sources in the future.
Good luck. I hope they disappear.

Since when
[Read the article: Yet another "3 a.m." ad released]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]is reversing major tax cuts for the top brackets (the rich) in our society, raising MY taxes?
That's the problem with these damn tax cuts; now, to take them back, you have to appear to be "raising" taxes on everyone, which is absolutely not the case.
And, if Bush didn't have his head you know where, he would have saved the money he sent out to everyone in that ridiculous $300-for-everybody budget surplus return in 2001 and used it to address issues with Soc Sec and Medicare, or had something in reserve for unexpected emergencies ... And if he knew what he was doing in his ill-fated Iraq adventure, he would have RAISED taxes then and asked the country to sacrifice in real time to pay for the war, rather than charging it to future generations.

Here is what is clear
[Read the article: Penn attended meeting on trade deal Clinton opposes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sen. Clinton's campaign is staffed and run by old-school politicos. That's one thing about which Barack Obama is absolutely right. She is politics as usual. And this is living proof -- as is almost every word that comes out of Penn's mouth. That she keeps this man in her campaign is evidence, enough, for me that she totally lacks judgment.

Body language
[Read the article: "Richardson has never questioned Senator Obama's electability"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anyone with rudimentary understanding of facial expressions and body language knew she was dissembling in that press conference.
Her "no" at the end was strange and forced.
Some of us are no longer surprised that she dissembles.

Give it up about the polls
[Read the article: "Richardson has never questioned Senator Obama's electability"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is pointless and silly to quote polls about NOVEMBER taken now. We don't know who the Dem candidate will actually be, or what more may be revealed or "learned" about that candidate between now and the general election. We don't know what's going to happen in Iraq. We have not yet seen a presidential debate so we don't know how voters will respond when they see the issues framed and discussed by the two candidates from opposite parties.
Hillary's argument that only she can win the "big" states is the last best thing she has left to talk about, but it doesn't hold water because there are too many unknowns for any conclusions to be drawn from the primaries. Right now, Dems are way ahead of Republicans in fund-raising, voter registration, etc., etc. It's all up for grabs.
I am sick and tired of candidates and their surrogates and supporters pulling poll numbers from right now and treating them as though they were the gospel truth about November.

Always wondered
[Read the article: A free ride for the Straight Talk Express?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I always wondered how John McCain got away with stuff. As an "overwatcher" of news, I have seen so many situations involving McCain that any other candidate, of either party, would have been slammed for, and watched nothing happen. It has crossed my mind as odd, when I've seen "hometown" reporters for other candidates being interviewed on the news, that we never seem to hear from reporters in Arizona.
I hope this book wakes people up. McCain is not only somewhat lost in his own not-quite-sharp mind, he is a terrible candidate whose real track record is appalling. It's about time someone had the guts to say the emperor has no clothes!
