  • Mr. Slick

[Read the article: Barack Obama, jihadist?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Romney increasingly reminds me of a slick snake-oil salesman.

I doubt that he got it wrong. He's part of the Republican effort to "stain" Obama because of his name. When all you have is name similarities to argue a political point, it's pretty pathetic. This was a movement started by Ann Coulter, another slick salesperson who just revels in calling Obama "Barack HUSSEIN Obama," as though intelligent people would actually assume that everyone in the world with "Hussein" in their name was exactly like you-know-who.

How about some real candidates talking about real issues?

  • Not altogether hopeless

[Read the article: Number of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

These numbers suggest to me that a lot of people in this country don't have the stomach for primary season and the endless, boring "talking points" and political posturing that has nothing to do, really, with the real issues we will face in the actual presidential election. Primaries put candidates in the unenviable position of appealing to the extremes of both parties sufficiently to get to the nomination, when they can refine their positions to run a national race, and they're all just trying to do that without creating totally wacko sound bites that will haunt them in the national race. The primary system brings out the worst in all candidates, and I think that a lot of people just tune out and don't pay attention.

If, after the primaries are over, and we have two candidates and their running mates identified, these same numbers hold, then God help us. But I believe by that time, the vast majority of Americans will know who is running. What is more interesting to me is whether the vast majority of Americans will know WHY they are voting for one or the other, aside from the habit of voting one's party.

  • Secure future

[Read the article: Perino watch, again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Dana Perino has a great future as a perky commentator on FOX

    "news".

  • The Real Acronym

[Read the article: FEMA's phony reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Federal Ethical and Moral Abandonment

  • Perfect pitch

[Read the article: Why not a phony press secretary, too?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Ms. Perino is the perfect embodiment of the empty rhetoric of the administration she represents. And they treat her the way they treat the public and the U.S. Congress. They tell her only what they want her to know and repeat, and they don't care how stupid she looks and feels in the shadow of their supreme arrogance.

  • What's next?

[Read the article: The cream always rises]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Perhaps the next thing we'll find is that he is being given a Medal of Freedom.

    Why not?

  • We're tortured

[Read the article: Hillary Clinton and the Mukasey bandwagon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is torture to watch our democratic principles eroded by these people who are supposed to uphold the Constitution and legislate according to our nation's principles. Why is this even a matter for contemplation?

Torture is wrong. We do not condone or practice torture. Waterboarding is a practice that has been defined as torture by history. What is wrong with these people?

The executive branch is ONE branch of government. The president does not have unlimited powers. We are a democracy, not a monarchy. What is wrong with these people?

Hillary's wishy-washy approach on this frightens me. We need a president who will restore order and balance to governance, not someone who will take advantage of powers grabbed by one of the most corrupt administrations in history.

  • Hillary just lost my vote for sure

[Read the article: The politics of hope]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I've had it with the Karl Rove playbook. Now it seems that Hillary has picked up where Rove left off. This is intolerable. She ought to be able to face her opponents in the primary ON THE ISSUES, which is what these guys are trying to bring to the forefront, and take her chances with them.

To try to silence opposition by insulting people is just beneath contempt. I am disgusted.

Go Obama and Edwards. Give her hell!

  • CNN failed on this one

[Read the article: On Mukasey, a "gotcha" that isn't]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I saw that interview this a.m., and I couldn't believe that John Roberts didn't come back with the fact that the Senate was controlled by the Republicans when that vote was taken, and that the Democrats united against torture. It was a big deal at the time. But that shows you how much even seasoned "reporters" have abrogated their responsibility to hold people to facts and follow up with pertinent questions. In the effort to "present both sides" and be "fair", the news folks have taken to just letting one side speak at a time and not challenging their statements, no matter how absurd or off-kilter they may be.

If the Senate does not DEMAND an attorney general with a spine, then they, too, will have abrogated their responsibility to truth and justice.

Mukasey is weaseling and the administration is pulling out the talk machine to help him to do so. Someone PLEASE ask the right questions!

  • Shrub

[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well, the nut doesn't fall too far from the tree, does it? The level of intelligence and wisdom reflected by that comment shows that he is truly a little Bush.

Jeb, it takes more than PR skill and self-promotion to run a country ... but then, how would you be expected to know that?

  • Insensitive to the max

[Read the article: Quote of the weekend]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That a low-life like Bernie Kerik could equate 9/11 with his current troubles with the law says it all.

But he's just parroting his master, Rudy, who thinks that all those late nights on the campaign trail equate to "torture" prisoners experience from being kept awake in captivity.

Neither of them deserve the attention they're getting.

  • Pathetic

[Read the article: CNN's Blitzer lets John Bolton lie about Libya, Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I saw that interview. It was pathetic. Bolton is one of those scary people who deliberately tries to pre-empt debate or probing questions and Wolf Blitzer just folded in the face of his aggression.

Is there anyone left in "journalism" who does his/her homework in advance of an interview and has the guts to actually ASK an intelligent, informed follow-up question?
