As someone whose been calling out people for more than four decades now, I think this is much ado about nothing. Unless I've been way ahead of my time pop-culturally speaking (doubtful), I've used the phrase as part of my personal credo to lead and live an authentic life. And importantly, to demand the same of others...which, frankly, is all I think Obama meant by his use of the phrase. To put it another way, and how I think it applies in this instance, it's about holding accountable or calling out people on their BS, or lies.
Those of us who choose to spend a lot of time around people of integrity hear the phrase quite a bit. And no, I'm no acquaintance of Snoop Dogg.
This is by far the best written analysis of the Palin appointment I have seen anywhere. Thanks for reassuring me that people actually "get it" when it comes to the potential threats raised by a McCain/Palin ticket. So much of the current "sound and the fury", including and especially as raised by Democratic supporters, bloggers, and media seems to be missing the point entirely. I'd virtually given up on our politics and society. It is often easier to be numbed into willful ignorance of what's happening around you than accept the disappointment and loss of confidence that comes with the reality of the times we live in. It's a good thing I'm not a candidate (with my lack of pride in my country and all).
Dude,
It's you who can't be taken seriously in this debate, especially after this post. Don't assume to speak for the masses, and if you want to speak for yourself, I'd advise you to keep it private where issues of this election are concerned. It's for your own good..and credibility. You're welcome.
