Role Reversal

If Hillary and Obama's primary votes and delegate counts were reversed, I have a feeling that the cries from her supporters for Obama to get out of the race to save the party would be pretty loud...

Wow, just Wow.

Since when did being a Muslim become a bad thing? I realize that Barack Obama is not and has never been a Muslim, but I am beyond shocked to see supposedly "liberal" Democrats throwing it around like a swear word. As someone brand new to the Democratic Party (thanks to Obama) I expected more intelligence and understanding of different cultures and religions than this. Add to that, the name calling, compartmentalizing and stereotyping I see rampant on this message board, I'm not so sure that this will be a party that I will continue to support in the future financially or otherwise.

For the record I am a white 32 year old woman who makes 40k a year and is working my ass off to get by here in L.A. I drink my coffee black, eat steak and like to shoot guns at the range to blow off steam. I also enjoy listening to Miles Davis and John Coltrane as well as AC/DC. Enough with the labels people, I think we are all better than that, and a hell of a lot more complex than most of you are making each other out to be. Vote for who you want, but for those of you who say that you will defect to McCain if your choice is not the nominee, I have to say that to me, that seems both irrational and childish. What kind of example are you setting for those of us new to the party?

Thanks Dolores

I have appreciated your insightful posts and the level of maturity that you bring to the discussion.

And I would like to add that of course there is a certain amount of racism as well as sexism involved in this race- it's not a big shocker. However I would like to believe that the majority of us are voting for who we actually think to be the better candidate based on the issues.

Also, to whoever said that Obama was creating huge divisions between young and old, black and white etc... I have to say that as far as I have seen in my few years on this planet, ALL of those divisions have been in place for quite awhile now. The fact that there is a woman running as well as a man of mixed race probably just puts a spotlight on a lot of the issues that have always been there. He's not responsible for dividing us and to say that is to ignore years of history and the simple basic facts of where we have come from as a nation.

If we're talking Affirmative Action here..

We've got a woman, a man of color and an older guy. Who would get the job based on AA?

Mr. Carville A.K.A. Skeletor

I had just moved to L.A. and got a job in Beverly Hills. While running to grab coffee for the office I literally ran smack dab into James Carville in front of the Starbucks. Besides the fact that I was extremely embarrassed to have run into someone because I wasn't paying attention, I was mortified to see who it was. Luckily he was cool about it and continued on his run. What does this story have to do with anything? Nothing. I just wanted to share that I have had Carville's sweat on me and it didn't burn like acid. I'm also glad he made the statement he did and I hope that it will inspire Hillary supporters to follow suit if Obama is named the nominee.

Original article: Poetry vs. fear

Well, I have a different take...

"Ever think about that fact that we may not be not leaving the Democrat party, but rather realizing that the party has abandoned us? Think of it as alienation of affection, abuse, desertion - all long accepted as grounds for divorce."

Abandoned you??? You realize how crazy that sounds, right? The Democratic Party isn't your Dad and it's bigger than just YOU. It's my understanding that no party is a fixed unmovable, unchangeable thing that must be left to stagnant until it withers away. Things change, people change and politics change. There's a new generation coming aboard. Whether you choose to be involved and make a difference is up to you. As someone who is new to the party and a feminist as well as an Obama supporter, a lot of what I have heard from the Hillary supporters on this forum are statements like: I am a latte liberal, sexist, crazy for drinking the kool-aid not to mention being constantly being threatened with "what are you going to do without us, we'll vote McCain". Threating new voters because things aren't going your way? Immature and kind of sad really. If Hillary is the nominee, I will suck it up and I will vote for her because I want to have a better world to bring my child into. I am disappointed that some of the older guard would be so petty as to sit this one out or vote McCain. I certainly wouldn't want that vote hanging over my head in the future. And for those of you turning to McCain if Obama gets the nomination: If he wins, is that it for you and the party? Will you then get on board and try to work together or will it be sour grapes for the next four years?
