Is all about how Beyonce isn't pretty!

Yeah, sure and Jessica Simpson is really a rocket scientist.

But I think it is all about video, now that people have Mp3 players and are leaving mainstream radio, the record execs have to put out the pretty to catch young people's attention for new artists because videos have replaced the radio in some ways. It's just a case of oooh, pretty, shiny, lets look at that while the song is secondary.

But people with loads of talent who aren't pretty, maybe they'll get the better deal in the end, a longer career with an indie label, little is said about you in the press, see Tori Amos, Bjork, Bright Eyes but people who search out music will buy their albumns and go to their concerts without worrying so much about their image or sex appeal and can focus on being an artist. It's no surprise that with Avril's more adult but sexier look her lyrics and album were total shit compared to her first two. Hey, hey, you, you and ums are not songwriting, not to say she was some lyrical genuis in the first place, but she was a nice anthemem to the hey look at me aren't I hot and sexy set.

So unless there was a way to stop putting the image, the person before the music, then mainstream music will suck hard, record companies will lose money until they learn not everyone with money is subject too oooh shiny, pretty must buy. Stop letting teenagers determine the market. I think it's hilarious that they don't seem to grasp the connection that the more the music sucks, prettier does not make up for it, it's not that the people aren't good looking enough so that's why people don't storm the record store. That maybe if they found and promoted good music, with good songwriters and messages with meaning besides hey I'm hot, lets do it, don't break up with me, don't you like my shiny car and my bling that stupid teens will waste their money on, but they don't sustain a business. There are way too many one hit wonders out there and that's why their pro-lookism is their own downfall. Hillary Duff, Jennifer Lopez and Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton are gimmicks, women who can't really sing in the first place and need all that mixboarding and don't have anything interesting to say. So after people turn 17-21 the gimmicks don't work on them anymore, but they don't really have any artists to follow along with, so many of them go to old music catalogs or search out indie artists who don't get radio/video play. The music indistry needs to think more about who can sell albums for years, not who can sell the most singles for a week, but only that week.
