  • Hmmm seems kinda interesting

[Read the article: No more whining excuses]

I see two things happening in our culture that is being reflected the way Imus has been treated and his firing.

First, I see a correlation to what you do to retrain people who are acting badly. See Cary Tennis's column today, a person is being a spoil sport and sore loser and is making the game no fun, so the advise being given seems to generally be; correct his behavior when he shows it, walk away and if he won't change, he doesn't get to play with you anymore.

Well this is no different than the situation with Imus, he has been a bigot for years, he has promised to clean up his act before and the final freaking straw was directing mean spirited words at an innocent group of hard working young women.

We are still Americans, we still see value in protecting the defenseless, such as a group of women who play basketball and were the victims of unwarranted racial and sexist epithets. Sure they'll move on and get over it, I'm under no impression that they'll need therapy or cry themselves to sleep for years to come, but it was still a slap in the face that came at them with no warning, like a sucker punch to the gut.

It is a brief shining moment that some people are getting sick and oh so motherfucking tired of bullies. Occasionaly we do protect the right people.

Secondly, I see part of the fury and anger and impotence that many in our society feel towards our bully, crony filled entitled spoiled brats in the administration being aimed at Imus. The wheels of Congress move slowly, our media ignores and belittles any easliy perceived gross violations of our constitution and tells us that we are crazy liberals and making mountains out of molehills, hey it's no big deal how shady the administration seems, if he spies on you, the terrorists are gonna get you, Clinton was worse (as the defenders of Imus use the same defense, rappers suck too so leave Imus alone)yada yada. So the public feeling the need to do something, anything to show we do not like the way the country is moving, we are tired of the powerful attacking the weak or innocent, so fuck you Imus, because we can't roast Bush over a spit quite yet.

Perhaps punishing Imus for Bush's sins is the wrong way to go, but I prefer that it is perfectly fine to fire his ass for not correcting behavior he has previously been told to correct.

It has jack shit to do with free speech and the FCC had jack shit to do with his firing. The free market (us the people) said uh un, no way jose, no money for you to tell NBC and CBS this shit don't fly. At least this is worthy of indignation, instead of screaming foul at some breast action during the Superbowl or Maher calling people cowards or whatever it was he said that was so offensive he had to lose his major network show. The bigots and idiots have the run the show for far to long, let them feel what it's like to be slapped on the hand and told no. They've apparently forgotten their manners.

  • Andy Barker Gone??

Already? I guess it was too ridiculous for people. It wasn't your normal sitcom so it had to go. I'm peeved! I really liked it. Of course it was stupid, it was utter nonsense, hence the laughs.

Why can utter unfunny family crap like Still Standing and King of Queens air for years while Andy Barker P.I. can't even get a 6 episode stint?

And yes, Reno 911! is not funny anymore.

Heroes will be back, but only for 5 episode then it will be off, gone, just a nice memory for us comic fans. Lost sucks booty now, I never cared for 24 and while Veronica Mars will warm my heart for the month of May, it probably won't return again because dumb teenagers like watching Pussycat Doll wannabees instead! But perhaps Heather you could illuminate us on the new horror that is Charm School for all those Flavor of Love rejects, hosted by Mo'Nique because I kow I'm not gonna watch it! Or how about that other crap fest of utter unhilarity, Thank God You're Here to make not one funny remark unless you are Joel McHale and actually get the ridiculous nature of improv! Hmmm crappy improv gets a nod on Oprah to convince the masses this is funny, really, it is! While Andy dies another sitcom death.

Oh and thanks HH for the delightful at home banter of whats for dinner, I'm bored, there's nothing on TV and I dont' want to eat what's in my fridge. My husband and I have often done this dance and know it well!

Lestat1, Heroes has been renewed. Alas Veronica Mars was cancelled. They might re-format it and bring back Kristen Bell as an F.B.I. agent. One can only hope.

Thanks, I don't regularly search news sites for cancellation/renewal news so I just took NBC's ads of the Final 5 episodes instead of final 5 till season finale at their word. I figured the show just may have been one of the first BBC type style experiments where a show is written to only last a certain amount of time, I'm glad to know it will be back.

Though where did you read Veronica got the ax for sure? I only found an LA Times article written yesterday(4/23/07) that said Veronica along with Gilmore Girls were on the "bubble" for renewal or the ax, though I understand Veronica will probably be gone, just like when Angel was riding the bubble and the only show getting a new season for sure is Everybody Hates Chris.
