Upton Sinclair Revisited
[Read the article: Extreme acts of animal cruelty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I recently viewed the film "Fast Food Nation" in which many of the views expressed here were gtaphically presented. How many remember that author Upton Sinclair had also taken a job in a Chicago slaughter house and wrote "The Jungle" from his experiences there. However, his purpose in writing the book was to portray the plight of the immigrant workers in the industry. However, the public became more concerned over his descriptions of the unsanitary, inhumane conditions of the place where he worked. This outrage resulted in the enactment of The Pure Food And Drug Act. The author later commented "I wrote the book hoping to hit public's hearts but hit their stomachs instead."

An Ignorant Public Can Be Lead Anywhere
[Read the article: Winner of 2008 election accidentally leaked]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If ever there was a "truth in packaging" presentation this fills the bill completely. Though this video seems to be far-fetched the reality is it comes closer to hitting the target than anything I have recently seen. We can blame ourselves for having allowed foreign lobbyists and foreign loyalist to seize control of our national government. Those who played the major role in starting this war realize the average American is more interested and more savvy about sports than knowing who is running our government. Marketing a war or two is relatively easy in a country which can show a TV ad on a drink "that contains 10% fruit juice" (High C) without some questioning the contents of the remaining 90%. Or even funnier a drink "that contains 5% fruit juice." (Sunny D.) Steve USN, WW2

Let's Get Over It, We The Average Person Doesn't Count
[Read the article: "My uncle was laid off from that American Standard plant"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Perhaps nothing drove home the issue of so-called "Free trade" that living here in Florida and seeing orange juice being imported from Brazil. As I remember the time when both politica parties colluded to pass NAFTA most o Florida's representatives vote for this. The bribery of a new post office or new federal building in his/her district helped. The now glorified St. Ronald Reagan destroyed the power of the unions when he destroyed the Traffic Controllers Union; NAFTA did a far more effective job by simply moving complete industries to lower-waged areas in Mexico and Asia. The loss of jobs was never too much of an issue by our leaders who were lauded by Wall Street's increased numbers of millionaires which these trade bills created. Maybe the big guys are telling us we do not count and if you do not like the way it is now simply pack up and move to China. steve, USN, WW2

Right Win Ads: Who Pays For Them?

Hagee's Idiotic Lunacy Acceptable Only In America
[Read the article: The McCain/Hagee story picks up steam]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hopefully charlatans such as Hagee and his fellow loonie-toons should be more fully exposed as this excellent article does here. Unfortunately, Senator Joe Lieberman's appearance before groups such as hose of Hargee is not mentioned here. Hagee is a good example of how lunacy when packaged in religious gift wrapping is acceptable by many Americans whereas he would be laughed while being placed in an asylum in Europe. Whenever anyone writes or speaks about Hagee I hope they will finally mention the bi-sexual sex scandal he was involved in many years ago which now seems to have been forgotten by our media.

The American Empire 101.
[Read the article: The cold price of hot blood]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Those of us who do read history know all empires end up in the dumpster. This is a natural consequence of bankruptcy brought on by militarism and the costs of maintaining it.

I seldom miss Hardball
[Read the article: Howard Fineman, mind reader]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So I surprised the Chris kept repeating Clinton's "as far as I know." I imagine over many years all of us have made such a comment when uncertain about how to give an accurate answer. Maybe researching the past writings just might validate my theory as far as I know.

"What We Say Goes." President George H.W. Bush, 1991.
[Read the article: The Iran hawks' latest surge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The entire world knows the U.S. is the only nation ever to use nuclear weapons on an enemy. There is still a great dispute whether these horrific weapons were needed on an enemy which was already asking for peace which Washington knew because of intelligence intercepts. But since this first use U.S. policy has been to attempt to keep the nuclear club as small as possible. We only allowed Israel to have join. But our leaders have "used" nukes over two-dozen time since August 1945. By using the word "used" I mean this in the same context as a bank robber using a weapon to succeed in his crime though he might never need to fire the gun. The U.S. policy of brandishing their awesome WMD arsenal has been restricted to those nations not possessing a retaliatory capability in kind. Nations such as the Soviet Union and China were threatened when they lacked these weapons but never since acquiring them.

What AIPAC Wants AIPAC Gets Even Another War Which Their Members Will Not Fight In.
[Read the article: The Iran hawks' latest surge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Future historians, if we ever have one, will always be amazed that a small foreign entity's agents in the U.S. could have so much control of U.S. foreign policy. Perhaps what will baffle them most is attempting to explain how a delusional charlatan such as Hargee had so much power. One of the most amazing aspects of religion is it is the only philosophy in which human intelligence is ignored and nonsense is so embedded in the believers minds that they will kill those who disbelieve. I was amused to see Senator Lieberman speaking to one of these Christian evangelical groups somehow forgetting their complete agenda is they are eagerly awaiting the joys of Rapture and Armegeddon in which he will either convert to Christianity or be cast into the eternal flames of hell. Every time Hargee visits Isreal he brings a million dollar gift to them. I imagine the wily Israelis accept such gifts and laugh all the way to the exchequer. I do not know if Hargee's TV presentations are viewed abroad but if so then they must rank in the top ranks of the comedy charts. Steve, USN, WW2
