McCAin's Strange Support For A War Started By Draft Dodgers
[Read the article: John McCain: Bush's echo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the film "Patton" Karl Malden (Playing Gen. Omar Bradley) criticizes Gen. Patton (Played by George Scott) "George, I do this job because I was trained for it, You love it." Most who experienced combat in war grow to hate it. General Sherman, "War is Hell", Gen. Marshall, Eisenhower and many others. McCain falls into the 'Patton category' with his irrational support for this war. He suffered severely in our previous fiasco in Vietnam, and like a few others, still believe that war was necessary and winnable. If a battle could be lost because it was "a bridge too far" then perhaps we Americans should finally confront the awful truth that these needless foreign wars of choice "are oceans too far." There will always be a few who experienced combat who gloried in the esperience- Hitler, an enlisted grunt who held the Iron Cross, and Churchill, who while serving in the Sudan, gunned down several unarrmed enemies. After his catastrophic Dardenelles defeat he returned to the army serving in France. He wrote his wife that 'being here is like being on vacation." I imagine brandy and cigars at GHQ was nowhere near what the Tommy grunts were enduring in the trenches. The small cabal which played a major role in getting Bush to start this war had a champagne brunch the day our troops entered Baghdad to celebrate. I have yet to see any tears shed by them or at Fox News when these dire reports come back from our latest foreign misadventure. steve, usn, ww2

What Is The Agenda Lieberman Never Mentions?
[Read the article: Joe Lieberman's dishonesty: The Iraq tragedy in a nutshell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When Joe Lieberman received the most votes running for the Vce-presidency during the 2000 he really won that election. Only the strange, unique Electoral College system allowed him to suffer a defeat. But from the subsequent actions he has displayed since his ideological soul mate, Bush41, launched this fiasco in Iraq we now know we never had a chance to not get entangled in what we are now seeing over there. I feared the small group which supports this misadventure might have initiated an assassination of Al Gore which would have placed Lieberman in the Oval Office. Many many think that this is merely just another outlandish conspiracy theory but they should remember Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated in Israel by a young punk who believed Rabin had eased up on the Palestinians too much. (Yeah right: Rabin created the "Iron fist Policy" over there, hardly a peace movement.) I read the punk assassin's legal fees were paid by "American" supporters opposed to any peace with the Arabs.

These Debates Should Be A Recruiting Opportunity For Those Who Support This War.
[Read the article: And the winner is ...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I would be far more impressed when seeing and hearing those who still support the war in Iraq if the candidates led a swearing in ceremony for their family members joining up to fight this war. steve, usn, ww2

Pro-war motto: YOU Go Gettum!!!
[Read the article: The antiwar GIs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The strangest aspect of this war in Iraq is it was largely started by men who in the past chose to avoid military service. Actually there is very little difference when comparing them to those who oppose this war and those supporting it. The anti-war people not only oppose the war but oppose serving in it Many of the pro-war group do support the war but prefer that others than they or their family members do the fighting.

Let's Cease This "Faulty Intelligence" Scam.
[Read the article: When flip-flopping is a good thing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It would be helpful if those in our media would finally expose one of the many lies which the Bush gang used to get us into this war and which those Democrats who also voted for it are keep blaiming "Faulty intelligence." The truth is that Bush, Blair and their Neocon advisors knew the inspectors had effectively disarmed Saddam from any WMDs he was alleged to have had. But by them knowing this it guaranteed they would attack Saddam believing it would indeed prove to be a "slam dunk cakewalk." The manner in which they have handled North Korea proves they would not have dared to attack any nation possessing a nuclear retaliatory capability. When Gen. Swartzkoff mocked Saddam's inept military experience perhaps such comments were premature. Saddam knew Iraq could not stop a superior U.S. invading force but he did put in place a strategy for their citizens to fight back once the invaders were visibly on the ground and in their gunsights. Perhaps if more people would read history and learn from the mistakes of the past we would not be entangled in the quagmire seen over there at present. The British withdrew after suffering from the insurgency and the cemetery where their troops now reside is still seen in Baghdad.

O'Hanlon and Pollock=Judith Miller Lite
[Read the article: The really smart, serious, credible Iraq experts O'Hanlon and Pollack]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We need not be reminded that way the NY Times has used O'Hanlon and Polloock to promote Bush's War was also done when Judith Miller was assigned this role.

Aayn Rand Urged Military Privitization
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only time I saw Ayn Rand was when Les Payne had a show and she was a guest. That night she advocated our armed forces should be supported by voluntary contributions rather than the present system of funded by our government. As a pacifist (and a World War 2 navy vet) I support such a concept knowing this would help eliminate these enless foreign misadventures our leaders have entangled us into since 1945.

Put Gen. Jeanne Schmidt In Charge!!
[Read the article: If this is success, what is failure?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Only cowards cut and run!!" The newest member of congress at the time, Rep. Jeanne Schmidt, said this on the floor of The House referring to Rep. Murtha advocating a re-positioning of our forces. This war needs gung ho, bellicose, belligerant people like Schmidt so why not award her an honorary commission as a four star general and put her in charge over there? (Making such awards to favored people, such as Jack Warner during World War 2, is not unusual.)
