Because climate change "science" is indistinguishable from creation "science." Using essentially the same techniques of combining W.A.G. (wild ass guess) data with M.S.U. (make shit up) techniques, creation scientists have proven the speed of light is changing and that the earth and universe are just 6,000 years old. Deniers of creation can't be any smarter than deniers of AGW.
You're living in a bizarro world microcosm up there. Out here, people like moms. Appreciate them. Honor them. Lend them a seat on the train.
Maybe the problem isn't that "everybody hates mommy" but that urban dwellers are assholes.
A state-run ANYTHING is not "moderate," it is hard core left. The federal government should not be in 'the business of' anything.
Neither of these bills do enough to thwart freeloaders, those who can pay and would rather not. There should not be a ban on "pre-existing conditions," instead there should be "universal portability," where if your illness was covered under a plan previously, you can change plans freely and still have it covered. If you had no plan when you got sick--you pay out of pocket for that.
So, if you're poor, you're already on a free plan anyway and if you're middle income and were spending on a boat the money that should have been going to insurance premiums then you can sell the boat.
And also, the subsidized plans for the poor should not be paid for with taxes and fees related to health care for working people. It should be paid for out of general revenue with a broad income tax increase. Otherwise, the rich get out of this scot-free.
But then letting the rich run amok, scot-free, to plunder the pocketbooks of ordinary Americans is part and parcel of the Bush/Obama dynasty.
Like the now stalled cap-and-steal legislation, the House and Senate health care schemes are designed to enrichen middlemen and Wall Street to the tune of billions of dollars.
They're a backwards country. The mighty USA is not.
English, the language of liberty, is not their first language. It is ours.
Their president is just a woman, not a man.
Their president is not America's First Black President. Ours is.
But hopefully despite their challenging deficiencies, they can do the right thing and look to the present and future, and not dwell on the Past.
Using techniques of global warming "researchers," probably with even less fudging of the data, creationist "researchers" will prove the earth is 6000 years old.
The most absurd part about it is that business will go on as usual. I recall one incident of a defense contractor caught exaggerating the effectiveness of a component in missile defense. The engineers involved were totally thrown under the bus even though their shenanigans were moot and had no effect on funding or final reported results.
Here, we've got scientists, people supposedly devoted to seeking absolute truth no matter where the trail leads, who deliberately lie to further a political agenda. And everyone (with the global warming religion) defends them.
The big news today isn't that a handful of global warming "scientists" are liars, since we knew that; the big news is that reputable global warming scientists admit they are baffled that the plateau in global temperatures we've reached isn't predicted by the models.
Huh, a week ago, before this new bombshell, I was wondering the same thing here on Salon. If the models predicting global warming weren't just made up bullshit, they would have also predicted this plateau (their word--the declining trend is obvious, going down since 1998).

The problem is, they are emotionally invested in this, and that makes them completely untrustworthy. Suppose it was my job to go find yellowcake in Iraq, and I hated Iraq and wanted to pick a fight with them. You'd question my credibility, right? Any global warming religionist who rants that we have to "fix" it as opposed to simply finding climate trends to be intellectually interesting is a nutjob who can be expected to act unethically.
I doubt it! Geez, get a grip.
