But Glenn....

You're not part of the club. You're not allowed to criticize the members, and especially not the club itself (& especially, especially not J.-freakin'-Klein). Besiside, as a non-member , your criticism is soooo unimportant (and shrill too), and not worthy of notice. ( & why do you keep doing it??? WHY?WHY?WHY?WHY?WHY???? & so @#%$@!*~*n' correct?WHY?WHY?WHY?WHY??????? )

ps, re yesterday's "Royalty" post , here's another one (& @sig) :http://www.pressconnects.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090830/NEWS01/908300411

Edward Cox (Nixon's son-in-law) thinks he should be the new NY GOP chairman .

The writer got off a good first line :"A blueblood believes he can deliver new blood and new life to New York's ailing Republican Party."

"We need to attract younger people to our party,"

- Broome County Republican Committee Chairwoman Debra Preston

Lol! ( She's not that clueless - must've been having an off day;)

"hard-hitting journalist/political analyst .".

If that = "making shit up" ; "lying" ; "misleading" ; mischaracterizing" ; " not knowing what you're talking about" ; " just plain wrong" ( see him repeatedly cite the Malmedy Massacre, wrongly, backwards, and insist he's correct); "debates incompetents who fail to even mention the most salient points", then BillO's your guy. Btw, why the fixation on O'Reilly?

SteveO, your main point seems to be that Glenn's knocking down straw men, and avoiding anyone who could make more substantial arguments. So,... why don't YOU be that guy , instead of the Let-somebody-else-do-it guy? Why are YOU pro-torture? What are YOUR "substantial" arguments?

Given that torture a)Doesn't work.

b)Is illegal.

c)Is unconstitutional

d)Is immoral(by most people's reckoning)

e)Causes much negative reaction worldwide,

f)that hinders diplomacy in other areas

g)Produces false confessions, that

h)contaminates the "intelligence" stream thereafter

i)It corrupts, well...just about everything - legal,political,the language, everyday conversation, etc,etc,etc.

So, what are YOUR granite monuments to torture, that Glenn's strawman arguments won't knock down?

@Bill Owen

One year's military budget of 330 billion dollars is equal to more than $18,000 an hour for every hour since Jesus Christ was born. That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated.

-- Bill Owen

You're about a decade behind. You'd have more$ to play with. Current military budget : $513B(514?), next year : ~ $527B ; Rest of the world combined :~$500B . (It was in one of Glenn's post awhile back)

Steve O'

If Israel used a third of its might in Gaza, there would be no Hamas.

Like we did in Iraq? Or the Israelis did in Lebanon vs Hezbollah? Occupations just don't work. The people that live there don't just go away. If one group is crushed, other pop up.

"Hamas has the weight of the international community on its side. If Israel were China (Tiananmen Square, Tibet, etc.) there would be no Hamas and there would be very few Palestinians in Israel and no one in the world community would say much of anything to China. Where was the outcry when Russia leveled Chechnya?"

The difference is visibility. Gaza is too close to borders, and too wired. Too hard to hide a Grozny-style obliteration. Btw, lack of sufficient criticism of others makes it OK? I was critical of the above, especially Bush's look at Putin's soul, so I'm good to take a swing at Israel, correct?

If Israel did what you seem to suggest, a sizeable part of the Israli & US publics, and many in the IDF(as did this time), would balk, and there would be considerable negative consequences. Any supposed "restraint" shown by the Israeli government is due to CMA practical considerations, not some inherent goodness.

Self-respecting nations do not pay much attention to criticism.

???????

Where is the world out-cry over China's human rights violations? Over Saudi Arabia's human rights violations?

@ Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, etc. Given your concern, maybe you should pay a visit, join up, and make a donation(s). ;)

I suspect..../ @Titowan

We're probably in for another round of Only-three-detainees-waterboarded-so-what's-the-big-deal? from the RWAs & the one-trick ponies in the MSM. When the "investigation" thingy was first announced, I suspected that the cases mentioned were probably chosen for this reason. Then the "pragmatism" card could be played. (again)

Titowan, picture this : an RWA ( your shooter pic?) being stomped by Glenzilla, (on a football field, with a Salon, or UT, or Constitution logo ?) with Al Michaels & John Madden in the background. Michaels saying to Madden " John, I'm going to use one of your favorite expressions : 'WHAM!'" :)

Btw, I knew a guy that was at Katyn. He was a lieutenant in the Polish army. He guessed that something was up, so removed some stripes , to make himself look like a corporal. Finished the war in the US Army, and gained his citizenship. Seemed to have given him the attitude that everything came after was a bonus. ( Probably what allowed him to put up with his wife ;). I heard her yelling into the phone, at his doctor's office person " Noooo!!!, not a checkup, I said I want to bring him in for a tuneup!" :)))))))

Inflaming public opinion ?

In Iraq? Nope! A big *shrug* . (See sig - posted before , but the O-dministration keeps pulling out the "endangering the troops" song-and-dance, so have to keep posting. ) They're worried about inflaming public opinion here.
