Good letter. A nice way to say "Don't be such wimps." (Or maybe they were throwing some fresh meat to the most vociferous part of their readership?)

Most of the online commenters in the local paper are raving RWers, who spend much of their time complaining about the "liberal" Press (& Sun-Bulletin) , despite the paper APishly dumbing down the content for their sake . ;)

Btw, an update on the Siddiqui case :http://www.teeth.com.pk/blog/2008/10/12/dr-aafia-siddiqui-speaks-out#more-3554

Don't think my emails got there. :(

The new bulletin from Wingnut Central .

At least that's how it seems. Newsmax has been pounding this for months . ( I get the updates , because the rank'n'file RWers depend on it for talking points, so I might as well be prepared. *sigh*) Glen Beck was just on this a few minutes ago , with the obligatory "experts" to back him up . Guess we can expect more of this from the RWNM .

Other points from Beck: Obama's pledge to issue stimulus checks is just welfare by another name, ( $100's = welfare ; $M's & $B's = incentives ;) and it flies in the face of Trickle Down Economics , so it must be wrong ! (Guess what Glen, money isn't water ; it flows uphill ;)

~ " When is the public going wake up and say ' What are you doing to my country?!!!'" ( - Just as Mr. Beck has been doing for the last 7+ yrs. lol)

re tornados

Your explanation is much more elegant than mine and highly preferable. If your theory is correct, then shouldn't there be markedly fewer tornadoes in the Cont. US after the November election than there are now? We should monitor this.

-- casual_observer

Sooooo...... if Obama wins ,... and there's fewer tornados after election day than before ,..... Obama creates better weather! We better make sure he wins. :)

Then...,~this time next year...:

"......He changed the weather! He's a witch!"

- Pastor Muthee

" He's a witch, so Americans shouldn't marry Africans, and if they do, they should leave the village."

- Jonah Goldload

" All this witchcraft wouldn't be happening these days , if more people would just listen to the Pope and vote Republican."

- KLo

" Burn him! He's a witch!"

- Ann Coulter

Finally!

I've been wondering if any of our fine "journalists", or Obama himself , would make this point , and/or ask the Obama-is-a-Muslim crowd about this . Perhaps a Cheneyesque "So?"

Good to see Powell bring this up. Maybe this will give the media herd the impetus to start questioning the question. (Who-is-the-real-Barack-Obama) Not optimistic, but one can always hope.

Kristol

...says it'll be a bad night for Republicans? That's worrisome . When's the last time he was right, about anything ?

Btw, anybody have season tickets for Hell's hockey team? :)

I would like to see Bush/Cheney investigated by an international tribunal.

-- loper2008

Not gonna happen from here . It appears that it's going take another government to initiate that . Probably have to be Pakistan (unlikely?), as the other countries where the crimes took place are our client states.

Rich D

Greenwald being too easy in wanting more released?

Uh , ..no. These men did NOTHING.

The overwhelming majority of our prisoners were not not captured by the US military .( Alex Gibney's estimate : only 7% of the prisoners from Afghanistan. Red Cross estimate , re Abu Ghraib : 75-90% completely innocent.) Most were turned over by others , usually for a reward/bounty . No chance for mistakes and abuse there. Reliance on this sort of "intelligence" is what leads us to repeatedly bomb innocent people . ( Such as the wedding slaughters in recent months) Even the first commandant at Camp X-Ray thought that at least a third didn't belong there .

Even those that may actually be enemies of this country should be released , IMO. No one, regardless of who they are , or what they have done , should be tortured, and otherwise abused, as we have done . Even if humane treatment started right now, and their cases are tranferred to civilian criminal court, with complete transparency , it's too late. Any prosecution would have zero credibility, and keeping them is an embarassment, and a "stain" . So let 'em go . If we feel the need to do something , send them to the Hague , and let the ICC sort it out . On the off chance a conviction is obtained , that would have the positive outcome of the ICC essentially declaring that terrorism is a crime against humanity . (Long shot, but worth a try; gets us unstuck from that tarbaby.)

As for the possibilty of released detainees seeking to attack the government that tortured them , the surprise is that fewer have done so . ( & consider the source of that "information")

zoltan newberry - performance artist?

Maybe some sort of (attempted) satirical, imagined, mind-meld of (shooter + G.C.) ? One can only hope. The implications otherwise, are sad & disturbing. :()

@ What Constitution

What is the Mailing Address at The Hague

How 'bout posting e-mail and snail mail addresses that could assist concerned Americans in forwarding .pdf or printed copies of this formal U.S. Senate Report (or copies of this important post) to the appropriate personnel tasked with prosecuting war crimes under international law at The Hague and elsewhere?

Not all Americans believe that vile, evil and rampant lawlessness is justifiable just because we are Americans, and not all Americans accept any suggestion by those currently in power here that would ignore such atrocities.

-- What Constitution?

Been there, done that . The response is here: http://humanityagainstcrimes.blogspot.com/ & at my sig.

Ondelette would have the address , if you still want it .
