The Left is screaming for wholesale changes and Obama will throw the Left a carrot by "outlawing waterboarding and/or renditions" on Jan 20th. That's easy to do, gets big political kudos, but relatively minor in terms of national security
The Bush policies are the "wholesale changes", not the ones they replaced, that "The Left" wants restored. Uh....., "outlawing waterboarding and/or renditions"? Already is . Might help to frame it as such (i.e., accurately) as often, and in as many venues as possible, rather than just give up, and decry it as pointless and of little value.
ps: Define "National Security"
Let 'em all out, and resettle 'em in Crawford, TX. ;)
The point is that the current massacre is being financed by us , with weapons supplied by us, and given cover by us in the UN. We may be partially to blame for some of what you mention , but it's not official policy , or anything almost universally endorsed, and unquestioned by our politicians and media. That latter part is mostly what Glenn has been writing about . The rest is being written by we commenters.
Same load'o'crap, different day.
Winsmith, on the off chance that you're not being purposely obtuse , let me try to explain. You're putting words in Glenn's mouth with the Jewish conspiracy stuff . You claim to cite, then don't, and either grossly miscontrue, or just make shit up. What Glenn writes about is the self-policing othodoxy of the Beltway Bubblists. Doesn't require imaginig conspiracies, just a herd/gang mentality where anyone straying too far from the CW, is pounced upon by the overwhelming majority, who are trying to maintain their Cool-Kid/Serious-Person status. A market and political situation that self-re-enforces, and naturally selects for the vapid, the mendacious, the gutless, and the just plain stupid.
LW Pharisee, the Algerian War? Sunni-Shia conflict? In case you're an infrequent, or new, visitor to these parts, Glenn writes about US law, politics, policy, and media . Why would he write about that stuff?
phi, ancient animosity? It's not . That seems to be a widely held belief, at least in the US, that's just not true . Decades, not centuries, or millennia .
(& any other NYers)
My suggestion ,(to you , & to Patterson-connected aquaintences) in place of Kennedy or Cuomo , is Mark Dunau ( link at sig; old link, but sufficiently explanatory) , if he'd still be interested. Along with not being a legacy appointment , he has the advantage of having actually run for that office, and recieved votes , thus actually the officially declared preference of some of us. Could argue that he was the #2 choice of NY Dems, (far:) behind Hillary .
use blockquote as you would "i" or "b".
"Palestinians were not thrown off their land. They left willingly.
Uh-huh. Make conditions ~intolerable , let people leave (for awhile, intending to come back when things are quieter) then confiscate the land, declaring it abandoned. "They left willingly " Yep.
Finally, Israel has the second most patents in the world.
Oh, now I get it . That makes me feel better about sponsoring mass murder/destruction, and all the trouble that comes with it.
A reason? To reduce rocket attacks , of course. The efficacy of this is proven by the tenfold increase in rocket attacks.;)
shooter,(again) but then again, religion is irrational by definition.
The Palestinians are 1/4 to 1/3 Christian . It's a nationalist conflict , primarily.
jebbie & RMP , in the CS-T. Schooling the ignorant , that think everyone else is uniformed .
Geez, Glenn , a masochist are you? Might as well have accused their mothers of prostitution. :)
. At the current rate the US is weakening and Iran is getting stronger, how long will it take? I'm guessing your grandkids won't think it's so funny.-- zenwick

@maureen
I looked it up, and you're absolutely right - I'm totally wrong. The America First Committee wasn't founded until 1940, not in the 1930's. This completely justifies your many anti-semitic comments. I am in awe of your brilliance.

Huh? Besides being semi-delusional, wtf does it have to do with anything ?
Solutions, z & fellow-travelers? How about getting rid of the settlements, settler-only roads, the attendant IDF protection of same ? End the blockade , and bring in UN-sponsored monitors, preferably with no history in the area? (S.American?) Seems a better course than what we have now. What say you?
maureen, sage & thyme with the turkey? Hmmmm. Usually take it unadultered, but might be worth a try. ;)
...I always find it funny when people accuse Israel of appropriating land that isn't theirs, and recommend that if they truly feel that way, they should find a native American and hand over the house keys.....
- shoooter242
While I wouldn't mind if somebody gave me the keys, I'm not expecting or demanding such. However......, I do object to my government sponsoring, and giving cover for it , on my dime, while being treated as a ter-rist-loving, antisemitic kook for questioning it. Also, the people who took the land , and those that had it taken, and their immediate families, are still alive, for the most part.
I would rather nuke St. Louis
Than harm a hair on the head of an Islamic terrorist.

A good all-purpose post, applicable to just about any topic , so why not repeat it? Oh, wait.....
lol! Read "other letters" . Your arguments with Glenn might get more of a response if you post them on Glenn's blog! ;)
Call Up, thought you were disagreeing. #$%@@%& tone-deaf Itertubz! :)
You apparently didn't quite absorb Jim White's last sentence , or his essential point.
"...Until then, we have to keep pushing, every day."
Jim agrees with you . If in doubt , read his other letters, and posts on Open Salon, & elsewhere .
http://humanityagainstcrimes.blogspot.com/ ( Pardon the blogwhoring, but it's pertinent :)
Jim is definitely not a part of the Let's-all-get-along-and-put-the-past-behind-us crowd.
