@cdr42

Let's hear from the Christian evangelicals

(Not that many read Salon.) Why don't the religious of various stripes police their own? How does such an obviously crazy man achieve a bully pulpit? Why not a peep?

Some (most?) of the strains of evangicalism discourage questioning authority.Hagee is in charge, so what he says is gospel (generically speaking) . Watching some of the Hagee videos , and the lockstep response of his flock, with no apparent prompting , suggests to me that he's in that tradition.

A few jobs ago , I worked ~ 1/2 mi from the local bible college. Our summer help was usually drawn from there. Nice people all, but their political views ran the gamut from Dobson-like to Hagee-like . :)

One morning , one of my coworkers (Joe) arrived fresh from class, chuckling to himself . Of course I had to ask why . Seems that the professor put forth the proposal that our system of government is ordained by God .He used "Honor thy father" and similar biblical citations to "prove" his argument . One student objected strenuously , and this dual argument took up almost the whole class .

I thought Joe was going to tell me that

Watching some of the H the professor was baiting the class , to teach a lesson on the misuse of religion , and Joe, being older & wiser (8yrs in Army , then AF), was amused that they fell for it . Nope! He was laughing at the student who had the temerity to disagree with the professor. It's just not done . He had committed a grave faux pas , and didn't seem to realize that he'd done anything wrong . A truly lost soul! Subsequent discussion , then , and later , with several of them, and reading some of their favorite rags , from various places, revealed that the unquestioning attitude is standard practice .

Add another one

Lou Dobbs (why did I bother ? Monkey curiosity?) , just not-so-subtly implied that there was some nefarious intent involved in an Obama advisor's meeting with Canadian officials at the Canadian consulate in Chicago. Dobbs (angrily): "Do they admit that the meeting took place ? Yes or no!?"

Other talking head (wheels visibly spinning) :".....................Yes" She seemed to recognize that it was a "Have you stopped beating your wife?" situation . Etc etc etc

Meeting with Canadians ? Oh the horror! I suppose not even knowing the PM 's name ala GWB , is preferable ?

@GC

That's been my personal experience with wannabes-in-training, and actual "journalists". Most aren't the brightest lights , and don't actually know anything ( the way you know farming & growing, or GG knows Constitutional law , or RMP soldiering ) , just what people tell them .
