Nicholas Kristof Article In NYT
[Read the article: Hillary's time of troubles]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Has anybody read "When Women Rule" in today's New York Times?
I am thrilled to see this. It provides evidence of the ingrained sexism at work right now.
Here's the link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/10/opinion/10kristof.html?em&ex=1202792400&en=503ca9e755178d46&ei=5087%0A
BTW: I am not saying here that sexism is ALL that is working against Hillary Clinton, but it plays a much greater role than we are willing to acknowledge and address. What bothers me about this attitude toward women is its insidiousness, even within our own party and among progressives. That we will not stand up to it and call it tells me there's a lot of work left for feminists.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've decided to head in another direction altogether and am working on that. I agree with you that globalization is here...and yet I wonder what kind of response we can create to it. I actually like the idea of "green jobs" although I'm not sure what these are and where they are.
Washington State. In fact, our two U.S. senators -- Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray -- have been extremely successful in this.

Unfortunately, as Murray notes, President Bush is still the main obstacle to providing the type of tax and other incentives to "green" technology/energy that would help move it along faster.
Washington State has an abundance of active wind energy sources in Eastern Washington, geothermal, and hydroelectric (thanks to an abundance of water in the PNW...)
Puget Sound Energy will soon be converting garbage to fuel sources, thanks to technology developed in the PNW.
We also have companies in the Puget Sound area that are developing battery powered and other green auto technology, among others.
Washington State is, I believe, the "greenest" in the country with regard to energy, transportation, environment. It's not perfect and we have a long way to go, but...

[Read more letters about this article: Here]The fact that the Potomac primary is strongly trending for Obama should tell you something. A lot of these folks know the Clintons personally, or at least saw the inner workings of the Clinton administration. The civil servants, many of them, have worked for four different presidents. These folks are no dummies, nor are they people easily taken in by a charlatan with a smoke-and-mirrors routine. They're about as politically cynical as you can get.
There are probably some people in the Potomac area who stayed on after the Clintons left. But to characterize the Potomac primary as former Clinton insiders who have seen the light because they "saw the inner workings of the Clinton administration," is speculation, at best.
What some Obama supporters seem unwilling to admit is that African-Americans (60-70% of the population in D.C.) are voting for one of their own. That's why he will win D.C. This isn't to say that there aren't a few African-Americans who won't vote for Clinton or that whites won't vote for Obama.
Virginia and Maryland don't have the same number of African-Americans as D.C., although some of the Maryland and Virginia areas -- Prince William County, Prince Georges County, Anne Arundel, Frederick, MD -- are predominantly African-American. They, too, for the most part, will vote for Obama, with exceptions as noted above.
I have lived in this area and know the politics of how people vote. That hasn't changed much from election to election and this election isn't likely to change it much, either.
Point is, the Potomac Primary has little if anything to do with the Clintons. In fact, among a lot of people I know there, both Hillary and Bill Clinton are widely respected and very well liked -- among African-Americans and whites.

[Read the article: How will it all end?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I participated in the Washingon caucuses (oh no, I guess that makes me an 'elite'!) and I have to say I experienced first-hand the righteous indignation of Clinton supporters when our precinct voted 3:2 in favor of
Obama.
Righteous indignation? What an over-used hysterical phrase. It certainly smacks of presupposition on your part. Gwen Ifill said today on "Meet the Press" that language matters. I agree. Could you pass this on to other Obama supporters and encourage them to stop using words and phrases that are more often than not used to 'diss women?
Along these same "language" lines: I participated in Washington State caucuses yesterday, too. I had a rather spirited discussion with an Obama supporter over the senator's Iraq War public comments and his actual voting record -- which I happened to have with me. His 'evidence' consisted of little more than smarmy cliches about Clinton: "Hillary spin", "secretive", "PACs", "war monger". But when confronted with Obama's less-than-stellar voting record on several issues, it was "Oh, that can't be correct; you must have some bad information," to "Well, you know there could be several reasons for that".
There's an assumption on the part of Obama supporters, which I see frequently, that Clinton supporters must be stupid, or a bunch of unsophisticated "old folks", or a bunch of hysterical, angry women, who are confused by the slimy Clinton machine.
I guarantee you we are none of the above.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I could care less how the nominee is decided
as long as it is not Obama. If they have to bribe every superdelegate with cash, whores, and vacations in Aruba, that's fine with me. I'm willing to contribute to a kitty to get the palm-greasing process started. How much do you think Kerry wants?
LMHO, LOL, LOL!!!
