McCain's done
[Read the article: Straight talking the Wall Street Journal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Early on McCain was an advocate for more troops - like 200,000. In other words, he was of the camp that argued one needed a massive build-up to secure Iraq. (A position held by many military officers.)
McCain has waffled as he courted the far right. First he had to support Bush, then support "the surge" though it was not the surge he had original proposed.
McCain's courting of the far right was comically miss-timed. He embraced them as they were losing influence, Bush's popularity was nose-diving, and the war was going horribly. McCain lost the middle. To add insult to injury, those he courted on the far right, never bought into him either.
Starting out with the middle + conservatives and even a begrudging respect from the left because he was a straight-shooter and independent, McCain is a broken-down, political hack, who sold his soul to the devil and got nothing in return.

re: PC
[Read the article: Limitless wrongness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Don't forget, you cannot make comments about Jesus, even though you might be poking fun at pious actors. Doesn't the oppressed Bill O'Reilly rail about Christians being denied Christmas by our insensitive culture? (I've never understood why my conservative Jewish relatives point that one out to me?!?) Nor can you show photographs of war mongers in case you might be implying their physical appearance exposes the hypocrisy of their views. That's so wrong!

Does anyone sense a tipping point?
[Read the article: Limitless wrongness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]the poll numbers don't change;
the media tries to push the right wing angle, but fails;
move-on comes out tough;
even democratic apologists are checked.
The right wingnuts invested a lot in bashing the "liberal media," yet as Glenn as clearly proved, to a large degree the media has supported (or at least not sufficiently investigated) Bush and his illegal policies. So ironically, the people don't believe the pro-right, "liberal" media. Whodathunk?
There's nothing the media likes better than a wounded animal. If Bush's decline -- or the incredible apathy it induces -- continues, we may see the media circle his administration like vultures.
Who will be the first to peck flesh?
I could be wrong, but I even sense a chink in the armor of the military Anonymous guy from earlier today. He didn't seem like such a bad guy and though the tolerance here is tested by the likes of Tiberius and (~~~~~) and Shooter, I really wish the regulars here would be more tolerant of those serving.
Our society raises warriors. I would guess that RMP - an eloquent poster here -- might understand. Live by the sword, die by the sword is a way of life. There's a lot of reconditioning to be done. Our Constitution may be saved by co-opting such men. How? Well that's the 4000 dead soldiers question. Empowerment, I suppose. Empowerment to not believe in the lies that they've been raised upon. Question authority.
I think Einstein said something once about the willingness to look at something new by forgetting what your know.

@Bill_H
[Read the article: Are Democrats planning still worse FISA capitulations?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Without any evidence, I don't agree.
It's an ironic travesty: I think there's very little downside to supporting the Constitution at this point, even among Repugs:
- Rove is gone, the President is weak
- Americans don't typically frown upon standing up for principles
- rallying around the Constitution is strong and easy-to-play
Why not then? Fealty towards Bush is perhaps a hard habit to break. W/r/t habeus corpus for instance, I'd bet Repug Senators rec'd very few calls (if any) from constituents urging them to support the continued denial of habeas corpus.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Convincing the world's computer users that they didn't need to know anything about a system, just point-n-click your way to happiness.
with all due respect, that's overstating it a bit. there's no reason why everyone who wants or needs to use a computer needs to know about the underlying system. computers will be appliances and appliances will be computerized. nothing inherently wrong with either scenario.
uh, btw, i might as well fess up. as an IT mgr i had to pony up $1500 to repair a harddrive back in the mid 90s after a bonehead mistake. tho I can't recall what i did wrong...

Wait a second; I recognize that speak. You're not really technical at all - you're a product marketing manager!
I should know, I left IT for dark side 10+ years ago. :)
We can agree to disagree, but computerized appliances won't have file structures you can see and future computers will have a UI neither U nor I will understand. OK that was lame.

re:Coulter and Fox
[Read the article: The art of neoconservative innuendo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to state the obvious:
So when an organization supported and financed by millions of private US Citizens says Petraeus' lies betray them, the organization should be vilified. But a loud-mouthed hack calls all Democrats - Congressmen and women, former Presidents, active and retired military, and millions of private US citizens - traitors, this is fine and acceptable and is broadcast on live TV around the world.

Voting Green
[Read the article: The art of neoconservative innuendo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've had a terrible time voting for Dems over the years. Fortunately, in California, it's been easy to vote Green without sending electoral college votes to a Republican. Of course the claim that there are no differences between Dems and Repubs is rather suspect in today's environment.
