  • Throw away games and the Warriors

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Once you all have figured out how to incentivize, no incent, er motivate teams to play through the end of the season, maybe you can work on motivating them to win at beginning of the season. Seriously, all leagues produce meaningless games. Too bad.

Regarding the Warriors, I'll go ahead and say it here, they'll play Dallas tough if they get through. While it maybe be hip to beat up on the 6-8 seeds (when one is really commenting on the dubious playoff format), the Warriors are not your average 7/8 seed:

    - winners of 15 of the last 20, i.e., since full post-trade roster has been on the floor

    - 30 home wins matches that of Utah, Chicago, Toronto, is 1 shy of San Antonio, and better than Denver, Houston, Miami and Detroit

    - 3-0 against Dallas this year, 5 straight wins

No the Warriors won't win the series, but to casually throw them in with the other do-nothing teams is specious.

  • Repeal means less gun control

[Read the article: Repeal the Second Amendment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's amazing how much the Constitution is misunderstood. The amendments to the US Constitution serve to limit what the government can do, not to bestow rights and privileges on the people. The rights, like the right to privacy, exist because the Constitution did not explictly take them away. The "right to bear arms" is common law that preceded the Consititution.

The Constitutionally acceptable options are either for local government to regulate guns or to pass an (new) amendment that explicitly abolishes the right for individuals to bear arms.

  • Not exactly a bandwagon

While it may feel like a bandwagon, I think what you're actually experiencing is the media's first awareness of Golden State. Including your own. Most Warriors fans, myself included, don't really believe the Warriors have much of a chance to beat Dallas in a seven game series. What the players and fans hope, at the risk of throwing out a tired cliche, is that the team gets a little respect.

It wouldn't actually take a whole lot of analysis to figure out that this Warriors team is a bit unusual for an 8 seed. Its starting line-up, like that of Denver's, is about a quarter season old and boasts a record of about 16 and 5.

BTW, I love Barkley. I think he's hilarious. But his prognistications are horrible. It's a running joke on the show. The next time he predicts a correct outcome will be his first.

  • Thank you, thank you.

"This next song , excuse me. This next song...sorry, my voice ain't what it used to be, heh heh. This next song was inspired by my, by my days before I decided to pick up the axe again. Yet, those were low days..."

    "Free bird!"

"Back when I was a corporate no-"

    "Free bird!"

"-when I was a corporate nobody. A loser. All I could dream of-"

    "Free bird!"

"Shut the fuck up! I'm performing here!"

    "Woooo Woooo!"

"Alright, here goes. This one's called Mindless Robot."

    1, 2, 3

'We were sittin' in our cubicles, yeah, yeah, yeah,

"Just manicurin' our cuticles, yeah, yeah, yeah,

"My keyboard was typin' me, my monitor it could see,

But I wasn't like the other, I didn't want to beeeeeee

    A mindess robot -- a corporate slave!

Song is burstin' from my heart, I don't want to play the part,

I'm no money suckin', blood lustin', slut-bustin' knaaaave!'

  • Symptom or disease?

[Read the article: This little piggy]

Often what is mildly amusing is what appears to be contoversial on its surface, is hiding a troubling truism beneath.

Listen, name-calling is wrong. So is spanking. We adults usually don't do either to each other. We at least frown mightedly at those who do. So if it's wrong, we attempt to teach our children that it's wrong. And generally speaking, "do as I say, not as I do" is not a great teaching methodology. Hence, hopefully, we refrain from calling our kids names or beating them.

What somehow is lost, however, on many of today's parents who seemingly get their tips from a recent issue of Newsweek, where they interviewed an "expert," is:

    1) parents are human and make mistakes!

    2) discipline is okay!

Hopefully Alec called back and apologized, explained why he called her a name, and that really, he shouldn't have done it. Wow, look at the life lessons in that!

Moms and dads aren't perfect, so neither does the kid have to be. Mistakes will be made by all, but will be owned up to. Accountability. Contrition. Empathy. Forgiveness.

  • Clap Happy

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Davis and Jackson both were clapping after the first incident, too. Until they were assessed technicals. Both Davis and Jackson were astonished they were hit with 'Ts' the first go 'round, insisting they were breaking up the skirmish. Jackson clearly was doing just that. So was Davis, though Davis led with his chest.

But they both were walking around clapping after that. Clearly, the message was, "okay, we go screwed, but we're still in this." Both, however, feeling a bit persecuted, complained about *every* foul call from that moment on. And they clapped a lot.

The refs blew it with the first round of technicals. Davis and Jackson blew it by letting it get to them.

  • Refs determine outcome

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

OK, I know it's weak to bring refereeing into the discussion, but is there another sport where refeering has such a direct affect on games' outcomes every night?

Baron tossed after a non-foul. Jackson tossed for clapping had no affect on this game, but if he's suspended...

Rather than a game of inches, it's a game of whistles. Or lack thereof. I caught it and so did Kenny Smith: Dirk fouled Richardson on his last 3 point attempt. That should have been 3 free throws that maybe ice the game.

I know, I know, every team gets dubious calls and non-calls and it all evens out in the end, right? Right?
