Yes, but that still leaves unanswered two key questions:
1) How did the Democrats sweep the mid-term elections in 2006 despite the Republican/Media electoral milieu Glenn describes, and
2) If the election of Democrats has resulted in the same major Republican policies, then why elect them?
Glenn may address these questions in the book, but he didn't address either one in his description of it, and that's why I'm posing them here. KR -- Associative Individualist
The Democrats sweep of 2006 was much like the Republican one years earlier; it was a reaction against the Bush administration and the war. I expect another such sweep next cycle as long as the Democrats do not run as warriors themselves.
The question of why elect Democrats is ether easy or hard depending on how deep you want to go with the analysis. The shallow reason is that the Republicans have brought such a horrible plague on the country that we will grasp any straw and the Dems are the only straw out there. (green party? -- no chance, same with others)
The somewhat deeper look says that voting in this system that is rigged for the welfare/warfare party is stupid. But even Rothbard supported whatever candidate he though might bring us a little closer to freedom. That is one reason some fools here hate his memory. Many Americans are very afraid of freedom and free men. It is the sickness of the age.
"... in this analysis, of the Democratic Party's gains in the 2006 elections, in which they wrested from the Republicans control of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and a majority of governorships and state legislatures?
That is, how did the Democrats achieve these electoral gains, and what policy changes have they effected as a result of them?"-- Associative Individualist
Glenn has made the case several times that not much changed at all. Bush II continued to get every damn thing he wanted.
Perhaps someday the Democrats might want to think about returning a few of the lost rights of ours. (cue James Bovard from 1995)
re: Gay Jokes?
"I don't know about your imagined "cabal" but gay jokes from me, Timberman, Anonymust, Ondelette, Paul Dirks, RMP, GC, Arney Langsetmo, Jim White, Cocktailhag, Bystander, DCLaw, Pedinska, Jebbie, Scientician, Aych and on and on and on you will not find." -- Kitt
Well little twit, you left out one name. The one everyone knows I was referring to; even you. If you want to have a go today, fine. I'll give you all you want.
But please little coward, stop hiding behind a long list of names. There is only one (that I know of) that would get that low, and you conveniently left his name out of your list. Even though you often show up to cover for him. I wonder why.
Are "gay jokes" prevalent on this forum, or are you addressing that admonishment to some outer-space group of, as you say, your "deluded government worshiping friends"?
-- Kitt
Yes, as lwm about the crack about Justin Raimondo. Or, bigoted remarks about people's religious beliefs while you are at it.
Oh, wait. I remember now; it is only satire when the cabal does it. Never mind.
"-- to put these right-wing leaders under that same microscope and to apply the same standards to them -- the ones used successfully by them and their media allies to mock and destroy the personality and character of their opponents..." (GG)
Good for you. It is high time that politicians and talking heads of the left as well as the right undergo an inspection; a fair yet intense inspection. The press in this country should fill the function of providing this close inspection, yet as your many posts have pointed out --- they are failing at this task.
Keep up the great work.
