No trust in MSM
[Read the article: National journalists believe you should trust them]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn,
This was a great article and you hit the nail on the head. I, for at least one, loss a lot of respect and trust in our media in the run-up to the Iraq war.
I show up in the statistics by being one who stopped watching TV news at all. I use the net to try to get real information.
Keep up the good work.

How Long Can U-Tenn Tolerate This?
[Read the article: The right-wing brain in action]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Let's not mince words here. Reynolds is advocating genocide. I firmly believe in the principle of academic freedom, and in erring on the side of permissiveness in this area. But there plainly are limits, and if advocacy of genocide dozen't cross that line I don't know what does. --thomas c"
Tolerate what? Perhaps you are unaware that East Tennessee, and UT at Knoxville in particular, are centers of war loving right wing thought. I bet the "good doctor" cribs most of his work from students in his classes.
I once heard a student recommend (in an Education class for God's sake) that we should kill all Arabs so Israel could be safe --- way back in 1973. His Bible told him it was the right thing to do.
I expect that the University of Tennessee is proud to have Dr. Reynolds on staff.

U-235 and centrifuges
[Read the article: The unresolved story of ABC News' false Saddam-anthrax reports]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No one seems to notice that Iran needs to purify Uranium to have fuel for their power reactor to make electricity.
You see, U-235 needs to be at about 4% purity for a power plant, but it occurs in nature at only about 0.72 percent. Hence, you need those centrifuges to purify the Uranium.
Now if you want to make a weapon --- you need to go to over 90 percent pure U-235. And then you need a way to deliver it to the target --- say a swimming camel or something.
But, is it illegal for an Arab to make electrify out of a nuclear power plant? Looks like that may be so these days.

A hat change
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]O'Donnell's appearance on the Chris Matthews Show was a very different matter. There she was wearing her "pundit" hat, not acting as a reporter. I think many journalists have a real problem when they try to switch roles like that. This was not an example of how to do it right. ... -- Just an Observer
One may not be a "pundit" and also an honest reporter. In the glory days of "yellow journalism" they were at least more honest than we are today. If you want to deliver the "news" then you need to keep your opinions out of it. A mere change of hats does not change the human. There is nothing wrong with being an advocate for the Republican Party; the sin is when you pretend you are not a biased advocate. It would be like C. S. Lewis pretending to be neutral on the question of God's existence.
I would like to believe that there are many Republicans who are fear that the present administration may be destroying the Republican Party as well as the Republic. We hope to see fair and balance reporting; in the faint hope the American people wake up while we still have a functioning republic. I know this writer does.

Can I edit my comment?
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dang! I have a stray word that just magically appeared in my post. I am sure that the gods did it, and not I. I do not see anyway to edit my post. :-(
Oh well, I'll try to be more careful.

In my humble opinion
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I would say that if we were to leave Iraq tomorrow, blood would drip from the planet. As one person told me recently (he had been in Somalia during the "Blackhawk Down" scenario) that Iraq would make Somalia look like a cakewalk. ..." -- Iraqnaed
They claimed the same about Vietnam; before my uncle was shot down in his helicopter, and became an amputee. At least he lived; all others in the helicopter died. What was never explained was why he had to give his limb to perpetuate a war that was started on a hoax and had nothing to do with national security; or why the others in that aircraft had to die that day.
Now in Iraq I have family that may meet the same fate in yet another bogus war that has nothing to do with the security of the USA. You seem to be claiming that we are there to "help" and "protect" the Iraq citizens. I say that an extraordinary claim of that magnitude needs extraordinary proof to back it up.
Hell, just a little bit of proof would be a start.

what the White House does
[Read the article: Profiles in Journalism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]... because he covered what the White House does, not just what it says ...
It makes you want to cry to know that they are correct; very reporters cover what government at any level does, only what they say they do.
Sad, damn sad.

What can one say?
[Read the article: Charles Krauthammer takes rank hypocrisy to new lows]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"... What can one even say about a person this dishonest? While many individuals on both sides of the gun control issue quickly sought to depict these shootings as evidence of the rightness of their views, at least that issue has a clear connection to this incident. ..."
Krauthammer is the sort that wants to kill innocents for fun, profit, and to build himself up in his own eyes. I would call him a "coward of a bully" but the word bully is not up to the task of describing such evil.
Far more worrisome is the millions of Krauthammer fans who buy into the racist, murderous fables that he spins so often.
Even more troubling however, is the absolute certainty that these cretins have that their ends justify any and all means.

the "liberal" press
[Read the article: Fred Hiatt and the "Triumphant Top Gun"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The central problem that you highlight here, and in other posts, is that the "press" wants view the Republican Party as the "home team" and the Democrats as the hated visiting team. There is no attempt at fairness.
At least we could stop calling the "press" liberal.
