That's the sort of argument

...that has Republicans saying, "If we allow same-sex marriage today, we'll have to allow people to marry their dog tomorrow."

Bad form. Bad logic. Bad idea.

And reason number 11...

You don't get to pick and choose what the government pays for. There is, no doubt, someone opposed to every single thing that's supported by tax dollars.

Or would Glock45 be content to remove war and the death penalty from those things that we fund with our taxes?

Lieberman doesn't get it

The public option won't raise prices and it won't put the private sector out of business.

Ever mail a package at the Post Office? That's public option. It's a government option that's funded by user fees. It's competitive with the private sector businesses, such as UPS and FedEx. All have their good and bad points, but I don't see the Postal Service putting UPS out of business anytime soon.

Of course, if you're mailing a letter, that's a government monopoly and a whole different animal.

@austinboy

I haven't seen any evidence that Obama is even taking on conservatives. His problem is Republicans.

The latter group has nothing to do with the former.

Yeah, I'm an old guy

and yes, I own all three Buffalo Springfield albums. I also own Off the Wall and Thriller. They're good records. Life-changing? No, but they're well-crafted pop.

Michael made a couple of really good records. And yes, Thriller sold a boatload of copies, making him important to the industry and giving him tremendous visibility. But most of what the public knows about him has to do with the freak show that became his life.

I think it's the freak show that brought about the intense interest after his death. There are lots of people who know nothing about Michael Jackson other than the stories of Bubbles, the Elephant Man, the Neverland Ranch, the plastic surgery, etc. And let's not forget his downright scary appearance. That stuff, by and large, was far more interesting to the public than his post-Thriller output.

There are plenty of other artists that have sold a bunch of product. You're not going to see this sort of media circus when Garth Brooks dies.

Johnson should be delighted...

...that she lives in a country that will permit her to decide what to do should she become pregnant again, rather than having Big Government make the decision for her. She should relish the fact that she has the freedom to make that choice.

The Republicans do still hate Big Government, don't they?

While I sympathize with the victim...

...she brought this unwanted publicity upon herself by choosing not to remain anonymous.

And can we please stop saying he had "unlawful sex" with her? He drugged and sodomized her against her wishes.

It's called "rape."

This will be quickly dismissed or ignored...

...as someone will simply say:

"Elie Wiesel is a liberal."

Correct me if I'm wrong...

...but aren't the Republicans who tell us that the government MUST get involved when a woman is pregnant the same ones who are telling us that we don't want universal health care because getting the government involved in health care would be a bad thing?

Our experience

My wife and I went through in vitro ten years ago and were asked ahead of time what we wanted to do with any extra embryos. We both said without hesitation that we would want to donate them to couples who needed them.

We came to find out later that only about 5% of couples make that choice. The rest aren't sure what they want to do, but they are absolutely certain that they do not want another couple raising their "children."

That's how we've ended up with hundreds of thousands of frozen embryos that are destined to stay in the freezer forever. People don't want more kids, but they don't want other people to have theirs.

It all turned out to be moot in our case, as no children were forthcoming, but I find it interesting that so few people want to donate embryos. To us, it seemed like a no-brainer.

Help the unfortunate. Isn't that what Jesus would want?

Larry King...

...is the true embodiment of the living dead. The next time George Romero makes a movie, the zombies all need to look like Larry King.

That would be one scary movie.

Have we waterboarded Roeder yet?

The Republicans are big on the whole "let's torture terrorists to see what they know" thing.

Roeder has indicated that he knows about other terrorist acts to follow his murder. Why haven't we followed this up with non-torturous-waterboarding to find out what he knows?

Motherhood? Really?

"There's no better training ground for politics than motherhood."

That's great, because Republican policies are generating thousands of 13 year old presidential hopefuls annually.

How lucky we are!
