Age limits

This raises a question. Do 12 and 13 year olds really have an advantage in gymanstics? Is it because shorter athletes get better rotation? Is it because smaller hips improve performance on vaults or balance beam?

There once was the stereotype that adult women carried more body fat, but now we see 41 year old mothers with washboard abs. Does gymanstics really need adolescent bodies? Did the Chinese really need to sneak in kids under the age limit?

I read your book when it came out and it confirmed all my worst fears about the sport. I have enjoyed your coverage of the olympics (ignore the trolls). But I still don't understand why womens gymnastics is expected to be a girl's sport rather than a women's sport.

Original article: The dominatrix

This article made me laugh - Does that make me a bad person?

Seriously though, there were dominatrix articles/picts for Hillary Clinton. And it was a Rolling Stone article that refered to Hillary as "America's Ex-wife", so this article is no more sexist than any of those.

I even think the article hit the nail on the head but I still don't think it will do any good.

Why not? I'll give you two reasons.

1. "Honey, the pervert vote is important to us". - Dharma and Greg

2. It really IS sexist and independant women will remember this.

nothing new

Dancing cameras have been a problem since the technology became available. It's a perfect example of the "if you have a hammer everything looks like a nail" attitude.

The problem briefly went away when Fred Astaire put down his tap shoe and said "either the camera dances or I do".

Pity none of today's athletes are prima donna enough to pull an Astaire...

Original article: Heads should roll

Machiavelli and Obama

You worry too much about the President's first 7 weeks.

Might I suggest you reread your Machiavelli, who once advised leaders to commit all their atrocities early? Then it will be out of the way and they can get on with winning people's hearts, the atrocities soon forgotten.

Perhaps this can apply to committing stupidities as well?

You suggest that the President is jeopardizing his re-election. I think the first few months will be completely forgotten and overshadowed by the last 6 months leading to the next election.

You are panicking.

Consistency

There is no moral inconsistency here. They (whomever "they" may be) don't want to deal with the concept of a child being raped.

So deny it when it happens (by claiming it was not really rape). And punish the whistleblowers (by discrediting them).

Morally. Consistent. Scum-bags.
